They certainly won't be brain-dead, either. Their minds are fully active and they are fully aware of what is going on around them and it all seems to be choices they are making for themselves personally.
A better description could be that they are 'mind-controlled' but they do not know their minds are being controlled.
But by whom? Who is controlling the minds of the zombies?
The answer is no one. Evil spirits perhaps.
Some kind of ancient evil force is buried somewhere under the surface of the planet Earth.
Or, it was buried. It's out in the atmosphere now. Doing what, I don't know precisely.
