As normal, as usual, without hesitancy, without regret, in perpetuity, I didn't kill or maim or harm in any way any person today. As normal, usual, etc., I didn't think about killing, maiming, harming anybody today. As normal, usual, etc., I didn't even consider thinking about planning to kill, maim, or generally harming anybody. I did see a beautiful young woman when I went outside that I wanted to give flowers to, but I couldn't, so that is a crime.

And birds go flying at the speed of sound,
to show you how it all began.
Birds came flying from the underground,
if you could see it then you'd understand?

The Real Story of the "Football" That Follows the President Everywhere

Take a peek at the mysterious black briefcase that has accompanied every U.S. president since John F. Kennedy

By Michael Dobbs

Smithsonian Magazine

October 2014

A recurring complaint of presidents and military aides alike has been that the Football, which currently weighs around 45 pounds, contains too much documentation. President Jimmy Carter, who had qualified as a nuclear submarine commander, was aware that he would have only a few minutes to decide how to respond to a nuclear strike against the United States. Carter ordered that the war plans be drastically simplified. A former military aide to President Bill Clinton, Col. Buzz Patterson, would later describe the resulting pared-down set of choices as akin to a “Denny’s breakfast menu.” “It’s like picking one out of Column A and two out of Column B,” he told the History Channel.

The first unclassified reference to the existence of the Football is contained in a formerly top-secret memorandum from 1965 obtained by the National Security Archive of George Washington University. Tasked with reducing the weight of the Football, a senior defense official agreed this was a worthy goal, but added, “I am sure we can find strong couriers who are capable of carrying an additional pound or two of paper.”

For the Football to function as designed, the military aide must be nearby the commander in chief at all times and the president must be in possession of his authentication codes. Both elements of the system have failed on occasion. According to the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Hugh Shelton, Clinton mislaid his laminated code card, nicknamed the “Biscuit,” for several months in 2000. “This is a big deal, a gargantuan deal,” the general complained in his 2010 autobiography, Without Hesitation: The Odyssey of an American Warrior.

It must have been something similar to when I saved those people from being run over by that speeding car a few years back. That must have been 2002. I was a volunteer at the Danskin triathlon. I puzzled over that for a long time. I just couldn't put my finger on something about that. My mind had been blank but yet I acted with such split-second decisiveness to keep them from getting splattered by that car.

Hastert details decision to leave

He discusses personal advantages to being out of the speaker's seat as he prepares to end his congressional career.

August 17, 2007 Rick Pearson Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO — Rep. J. Dennis Hastert on Thursday said he had felt like a "prisoner" of his office as House speaker, unable to enjoy the camaraderie of his fellow lawmakers.

"When you are speaker, you're almost a prisoner in that office," Hastert said. "You really didn't go out of your office, because they had 26 people asking you for something without an appointment, just trying to grab you. You were vulnerable every time you walked out."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deviant_behavior

Deviance (sociology)

Deviance describes actions or behaviors that violate cultural norms including formally-enacted rules (e.g., crime)

Neutralization theory

Gresham Sykes and David Matza's neutralization theory explains how deviants justified their deviant behaviors by adjusting the definitions of their actions and by explaining to themselves and others the lack of guilt of their actions in particular situations. There are five different types of rationalizations, which are the denial of responsibility, the denial of injury, the denial of the victim, the condemnation of the condemners, and the appeal to higher loyalties.

The denial of responsibility is the argument that the deviant was helplessly propelled into the deviance, and that under the same circumstances, any other person would resort to similar actions. The denial of injury is the argument that the deviant did not hurt anyone, and thus the deviance is not morally wrong, due to the fundamental belief that the action caused no harm to other individuals or to the society. The denial of the victim is the argument that possible individuals on the receiving end of the deviance were not injured, but rather experiences righteous force, due to the victim's lack of virtue or morals. The condemnation of the condemners is the act by which the deviant accuses authority figures or victims for having the tendency to be equally deviant, and as a result, hypocrites.

After thinking of that, I remembered a scene from "Flight Of The Intruder" that seems relevant. That part where Grafton and Cole are talking about ejecting. My guilt was that either that if I had been the pilot that night, we would have evaded the missiles. Or I felt guilty because the enemy had concentrated their forces on our aircraft because they knew I was in it and I was a special target because they knew I was Reagan's grandson.

I imagine that memories consist of chains of neurons that are scattered through out the brain. The memories are formed from the neurons stored in certain parts of the brain and those specialty neurons create associations that form the memories. I imagine that the neuron’s that process sensory input and recognize that input as something we smell or hear, all combine to produce a memory of a specific event. I further imagine those chains weave throughout the brain with the connections of the axion and the dendrites of each neuron and some of the chain spans into the outer edge of the brain. If the outer layer of my brain was damaged, then the chain is broken. But some where in my mind, there is a process that recognizes that information is missing because of the fragments of those memories. When I sleep, there is some process that is trying to reestablish those connections of neurons and recover the full memory.

That part about the neurosurgery reminds me again of the artificial and symbolic memories I have of planning to try to do some kind of brain transplant on a frog.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 11/07/07 9:52 PM
That is actually kind of a complex notion.

It reminds me of how I have artificial and symbolic memory.

But it could also represent that is the source of my medical degree. I assume that a brain surgeon is the same as any doctor but just with a specific field of focus.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 11/07/07 9:54 PM
That would also seem to explain why I am the test subject.

I have been thinking that I am the test subject because I have been a test pilot for so many years but maybe it is for both reasons; because I am a test pilot and because I am also a neurosurgeon. Am I spelling that word correctly?

DURAN DURAN

"The Reflex"

"You've gone too far this time"
But I'm dancing on the valentine
I tell you somebody's fooling around
With my chances on the dangerline
I'll cross that bridge when I find it
Another day to make my stand
High time is no time for deciding
If I should find a helping hand

[CHORUS]
So why don't you use it?
Try not to bruise it
Buy time don't lose it
The reflex is an only child he's waiting in the park
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre
Every little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark

I'm on a ride and I want to get off
But they won't slow down the roundabout
I sold the Renoir and the TV set
Don't want to be around when this gets out

[CHORUS]

Oh the reflex what a game he's hiding all the cards
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre
Evey little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark
