Mackall listened closely. All eleven vehicles were intact, protected by their deep holes. Again he blessed the engineers - and the German farmers - who had dug the shelters. No further orders were passed. None were needed.
"Enemy in view," the gunner reported.
The thermal sight measured differences in temperature and could penetrate most of the mile of smoke cover. And the wind was on their side. A ten-mile-per-hour breeze was driving the cloud back east. Sergeant First Class Terry Mackall took a deep breath and went to work.
"Target tank, ten o'clock. Sabot. Shoot!"
The gunner trained left and centered the sight reticle on the nearest Soviet battle tank. His thumbs depressed the laser button, and a thin beam of light bounced off the target. The range display came up in his sight: 1310 meters. The fire-control computer plotted target distance and speed, elevating the main gun. The computer measured wind speed and direction, air density and humidity, the temperature of the air, and the tank's own shells, and all the gunner had to do was place the target in the center of his sights. The whole operation took less than two seconds, and the gunner's fingers jammed home on the triggers.
A forty-foot muzzle blast annihilated the shrubs planted two years earlier by some German Boy Scouts. The tank's 105mm gun jerked back in recoil, ejecting the spent aluminum case. The shell came apart in the air, the sabot falling free of the projectile, a 40mm dart made of tungsten and uranium that lanced through the air at almost a mile a second.

The thought had occurred to me to look at that border crossing into Canada that is well north of Ione. I cannot remember if I used Google Streetview to look at it, but I think I did. Looking now at the interesection in Tiger, WA, I see a sign that indicates the border crossing is 27 miles to the north.

There is a road sign on Highway 20 that has a directional arrow that points towards Tiger Store and the sign indicates a Rest Area and a Visitor Information Center is in the direction of the arrow.

Near that crossroads of Highway 20 and Highway there is another sign above the 'Rest Area' and the 'Visitor Info Area' that is blurry but I think it reads 'Tiger Historical Center.'
Closer to the intersection is another much taller sign that seems to be a commericial sign for the building that is set off from the road and on the north-west side of the intersection.

Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a 1979 musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and libretto by Hugh Wheeler. The musical is based on the 1973 play Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre on March 1, 1979 and ran for 557 performances. It was directed by Harold Prince with musical staging by Larry Fuller. It starred Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. The musical tells the story of Benjamin Barker, alias Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after 15 years' transportation on false charges. When he learns from his former landlady Mrs. Lovett that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by the judge who wrongly transported him (Judge Turpin by name), he vows revenge.
Act I
The company—citizens of London—assembles to perform a no-frills burial, dumping a body in a sack into a shallow grave. The company sings "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd", introducing the tale of the "Demon Barber of Fleet Street". They continue to appear throughout the show to comment on the action. Sweeney Todd rises from the grave as if called forth.
In 1846, a young sailor named Anthony Hope rides a ship into London. Despite Hope's enthusiasm, his friend and shipmate Sweeney Todd is grim and uneasy. This mood is worsened by a half-mad Beggar Woman who begs from (then sexually solicits) both Anthony and Todd. She appears to recognize Todd, who runs her off. ("No Place Like London"). As they prepare to part, Todd tells Anthony a tragic story about a young and naïve barber, his beautiful wife, and the lustful judge who exiled him to covet her ("The Barber and His Wife").

Hope faded Thursday of finding 11 missing offshore workers alive as the sun set on a second day of searching and the massive drilling rig that exploded into flames late Tuesday night sank into the Gulf of Mexico.
With the fire doused and the rig submerged, the Coast Guard launched a sweeping effort to clean up petroleum spewed into the water and seal off a well at the sea floor that may have still been leaking oil.
As it did, investigations began and questions continued to swirl about the cause of the accident at the Deepwater Horizon, a half-billion-dollar rig owned and operated by Swiss-based Transocean that was under lease to BP.

The widespread disregard for nuclear weapons safety standards by airmen at Minot and Barksdale Air Force bases led to the unprecedented “Bent Spear” incident in which six nuclear warheads were mistakenly loaded onto a B-52 and flown from North Dakota to Louisiana on Aug. 29-30, Air Force officials said Friday after an intensive six-week investigation.
The Air Force relieved the 5th Munitions Squadron commander at Minot immediately after the incident. On Friday, it announced that three more commanders have been sacked.
Five steps to failure
Using the same briefing presented to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates earlier Friday, Newton summarized the five mistakes made by airmen that led to the incident and offered a timeline of events.
The first mistake occurred at the beginning of an operation to transport 12 Advanced Cruise Missiles on a B-52 Stratofortress bomber from Minot to Barksdale, part of a Defense Department program to decommission 400 of these missiles in the U.S. stockpile.
On the morning of Aug. 29, airmen assigned to the Minot weapons storage area were supposed to pick up and transport two pylons to a B-52 assigned to Barksdale. Each pylon is a self-contained package of six cruise missiles that can be quickly mounted to the wing of a Stratofortress. But the pylon had not been properly prepared, and the airmen failed to examine all the warheads on the missiles mounted to the pylons.

NEW YORK - A B-52 bomber mistakenly armed with live nuclear missiles flew straight across the heartland where millions of Americans live - and the crew had no clue what they were carrying.
An Air Force spokesman insisted "there was never a danger to the American public" and called the missile mishap last Thursday an "isolated incident."
"Air Force standards are very exacting when it comes to munitions handling," Lt. Col. Ed Thomas said. "The weapons were always in our custody."
The B-52 was loaded with cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads ranging from 5 to 150 kilotons in destructive force, mounted onto pylons on the bomber's wings, according to the Military Times newspaper, which broke the story.
"You can wipe out a good-sized city with a 5-kiloton blast," said Jim Riccio, a nuclear policy analyst for Greenpeace. "A 150-kiloton warhead is 10 times the size of what they dropped on Hiroshima."

The executed prisoners download into the resurrection ship, and with them, the virus.

Ionian Nebula
The Ionian Nebula is a supernova remnant recorded by the people of Kobol 4000 years ago. The nebula closely resembles the Eye of Jupiter supernova event in the episode "Rapture" that resulted when the star the Algae Planet orbited exploded. Felix Gaeta noted similarities in the remnant patterns and believes the Eye of Jupiter is a marker that points toward the Ionian Nebula; another clue to finding Earth.
A massive battle takes place inside the Nebula between the Battlestar Galactica and 4 Cylon Basestars. 1,700 civilians are killed when the civilian ship Pyxis is destroyed, with Space Park and Astral Queen heavily damaged.
The Ionian Nebula is 13,000 light years from the Algae Planet.
NGC 2440 resembles the Ionian Nebula and is 4000 light-years from Earth.

"Crossroads" (Parts 1 and 2) are the nineteenth and twentieth episodes of the third season and season finale from the science fiction television series, Battlestar Galactica.
Part II
When the fleet makes the final jump into the Ionian Nebula, Roslin feels faint and a few seconds later all of the ships suffer a power outage and drift. The Galactica crew struggles to restore power. Moving through the darkness and trying to hide his face, Baltar is suddenly surrounded by three people, including the woman who had asked him to bless her child. They take him to what they tell him is "[his] new life."
Caprica Six returns again to the opera house and sees herself, Baltar and Hera looking up at the glowing, robed apparitions of the Final Five Cylons looking down on them from a balcony. Compelled by their own shared auditory hallucination, Tory, Colonel Tigh, Tyrol, and Anders converge on the Galactica gym, where they all hum the melody together and come to the distressing conclusion that they are all Cylons. When power is restored, DRADIS identifies four Cylon basestars bearing down on the fleet and Admiral Adama orders general quarters. All of the newly discovered Cylons return to their posts but are wary of what they might do. As the other pilots scramble to their ships, Lee returns to his locker to grab his flight gear, despite having been removed from flight status.
After launch, Apollo separates from the other Vipers to chase a new DRADIS contact in the nebula. The contact turns out to be Starbuck; she tells a surprised Apollo that she has found Earth.
As the Cylon and Galactica fleets prepare for battle, the camera zooms out (to show the entire galaxy), and zooms back in elsewhere in the galaxy to show a single planet: Earth.

"Revelations" is the twelfth episode in the fourth season of the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. It first aired on television in the United States on June 13, 2008. Revelations serves as the mid-season finale of the fourth season
Kara "Starbuck" Thrace re-inspects the Viper fighter she was piloting in the third season finale "Crossroads" after being requested to by Tigh, Samuel, and Tyrol, and discovers a hidden signal being received by the fighter. She halts the execution of Tigh, and explains to the Galactica's crew that she presumes the signal originates from Earth. Though everyone agrees that it is unlikely, D'Anna and Lee form an alliance to find Earth.
In the final scene of the episode, the Fleet jubilantly arrives at Earth. Adama announces to the Fleet that their journey is finally over. A party of humans and Cylons travels down to the surface, but are speechless when they arrive in the radioactive ruins of a developed city.

Cally: Come on. Let's get the power back up. Move it around, you know what to do.
(Chief hears the song, watches Cally and Racetrack working.)
Chief: "There must be some way out of here..."
Corridor; Tigh's head against the wall: "...Said the joker to the thief..."
Anders, with a headache in the pilots' racks: "...There's too much confusion...."
Tory, sick in a toilet: "...I can't get no relief."
(All four of them walk toward an equipment room as the song gets louder and louder. Chief enters to find Anders already there, then Tory enters after him.)
Tory: This isn't happening. Please tell me this isn't happening.
Chief: So that's it. After all this time. A switch goes off, just like that.
Tigh, entering: Whoa. No way.
Anders: I don't believe this. I'm not buying this. This is a...This is a trick. Come on! We're not...
Tory, humming: What is that... song that I...
(They all start humming the song.)
Tigh, interrupting: -- All right, that's enough, Godsdammit! Deadbolt that frakkin' door! [He locks it himself] Forty years in the service. Forty years. Two wars. Combat. Locked in that dungeon on New Caprica. Ellen. My Gods. What about Ellen?
Anders: No, no, no. Not after all this. Not after the Resistance, and the Occupation... After watching my friends die one after another? For frakking this?
Tory: Sam...
Anders: -- You stay the hell away from me. You all just stay the frak away from me.
Chief: Sam, it's true. We're Cylons. And we have been from the start.

Nazi propaganda
Propaganda, the coordinated attempt to influence public opinion through the use of media, was skillfully used by the Nazi Party in the years leading up to and during Adolf Hitler's leadership of Germany (1933–1945). Nazi propaganda provided a crucial instrument for acquiring and maintaining power, and for the implementation of their policies, including the pursuit of total war and the extermination of millions of people in the Holocaust.
Chronology
In opposition (1919-33)
Nazi leader Adolf Hitler devoted two chapters of his 1925/26 work Mein Kampf, itself a propaganda tool, to the study and practice of propaganda. He claimed to have learnt the value of propaganda as a World War I infantryman exposed to very effective British and ineffectual German propaganda. The argument that Germany lost the war largely because of British propaganda efforts, expounded at length in Mein Kampf, reflected then-common German nationalist claims. Although untrue – German propaganda during World War I was mostly more advanced than that of the British – it became the official truth of Nazi Germany thanks to its reception by Hitler.
Mein Kampf contains the blueprint of later Nazi propaganda efforts. Assessing his audience, Hitler writes in chapter IV:
"Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (...) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (...) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (...) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This
sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood."
As to the methods to be employed, he explains:
"Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favourable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice; yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favourable to its own side. (...) The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble. On the other hand, they quickly forget. Such being the case, all effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare essentials and those must be expressed as far as possible in stereotyped formulas. These slogans should be persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward. (...) Every change that is made in the subject of a propagandist message must always emphasize the same conclusion. The leading slogan must of course be illustrated in many ways and from several angles, but in the end one must always return to the assertion of the same formula."
Hitler put these ideas into practice with the reestablishment of the Völkischer Beobachter, a daily newspaper published by the Nazi Party (NSDAP) from February 1925 on, whose circulation reached 26,175 in 1929. It was joined in 1926 by Joseph Goebbels's Der Angriff, another unabashedly and crudely propagandistic paper.
During most of the Nazis' time in opposition, their means of propaganda remained limited. With little access to mass media, the party continued to rely heavily on Hitler and a few others speaking at public meetings until 1929. In April 1930, Hitler appointed Goebbels head of party propaganda. Goebbels, a former journalist and Nazi party officer in Berlin, soon proved his skills. Among his first successes was the organization of riotous demonstrations that succeeded in having the American anti-war film All Quiet on the Western Front banned in Germany.
In power (1933-39)
Before World War II, Nazi propaganda strategy stressed several themes. Their goals were to create external enemies (countries that allegedly inflicted the Treaty of Versailles on Germany) and internal enemies (Jews). Hitler and Nazi propagandists played on the anti-Semitism and resentment present in Germany. The Jews were blamed for things such as robbing the German people of their hard work while themselves avoiding physical labour.
At war (1939-45)
Until the conclusion of the Battle of Stalingrad on February 4, 1943, German propaganda emphasized the prowess of German arms and the humanity German soldiers had shown to the peoples of occupied territories. Pilots of the Allied bombing fleets were depicted as cowardly murderers, and Americans in particular as gangsters in the style of Al Capone. At the same time, German propaganda sought to alienate Americans and British from each other, and both these Western nations from the Soviets. One of the primary sources for propaganda was the Wehrmachtbericht, a daily radio broadcast that described the military situation on all fronts.
After Stalingrad, the main theme changed to Germany as the sole defender of what they called "Western European culture" against the "Bolshevist hordes". The introduction of the V-1 and V-2 "vengeance weapons" was emphasized to convince Britons of the hopelessness of defeating Germany.

Lee, grabbing him: Now you listen. Don't push it, Doctor.
Baltar: Fine. Romo, perhaps we can have a chat. I've thought about maybe doing a book tour around the Fleet, and there's the publishing rights, there are issues about my security, where I will live, what I will do. Since we've forged this great relationship during the trial, I thought, you know, who better to think about...
Romo: Actually, now that the Fleet's legal system is in place, my not-so-inconsiderable talents are required elsewhere. So I'm afraid this is the end of our journey.
Baltar: Wait a minute, what... What about me? Wait a minute, wait, please. Think about this for a second. Where will I live? What am I gonna do? How am I going to survive?
Romo: Much as I hate to use a cat metaphor, Doctor, I think you'll land on your feet. Close the door on your way out.
(Galactica: Shuttle Deck)
Lee: Romo, one thing. When you put me on the stand, did you know what was gonna happen?
Romo: I knew you were an honest man, Mr. Adama. Much unlike your grandfather.
(Romo puts down his cane and walks away without it, causing Lee to shake his head.)

Roslin: It must've been particularly difficult for you. What, you just... couldn't get the other two guys to budge? [He meets her eyes] You voted for his acquittal, didn't you?
Adama: I hate to say it. Defense made their case, the prosecution didn't.
Roslin: Gaius Baltar is a traitor. We both know that. Regardless of the outcome of this trial.
Adama: No one's asking anyone to forget. Or to forgive. But we have to look to the future. [She stalks off.] Mr. Gaeta.
Gaeta: Yes, Sir.
Adama: Commence jump prep. We're going to the Ionian Nebula.
Gaeta: Yes, Sir.
(Gaius carries his box of stuff through the corridors.)
Pilot, slamming him: Excuse me.

Gaeta: Jump coordinates have been distributed, Sir. All Fleet ships show green for jump formation delta.
Adama: Initiate jump.
Gaeta: Aye, sir. Jumping in three, two, one... jump. [The Fleet jumps.] Jump complete. All Fleet ships reporting in, sir.
Adama: Very well, Mr. Gaeta. Commence dradis scan. Let's see what's out there.
(Laura gets woozy and weird, Adama is concerned. There's a power outage on the deck, and we see that the whole Fleet is dead and floating.)

Gaeta: Dradis contact! Massive Cylon Fleet on intercept course!
Adama: Mr. Gaeta, sound action stations immediately. I want an emergency jump of the entire Fleet.
Helo: Sir, all Fleet ships were powered down during the outage. It'll take at least twenty minutes to spool up the FTL drives.
Adama: We just don't have twenty minutes.
Gaeta: Action stations, action stations. Set Condition one throughout the ship. This is not a drill. All Viper pilots report to Vipers immediately. Inbound Cylon Fleet...
(Equipment Room)
Gaeta on radio: "...I repeat, action stations, action stations. Set Condition one throughout the ship. This is not a drill...."
Tory: Gods. What are we gonna do?
Tigh: The ship is under attack. We do our jobs. Report to your stations!
Chief: Report to stations?
Tigh: My name is Saul Tigh. I am an officer in the Colonial Fleet. Whatever else I am, whatever else it means, that's the man I want to be. And if I die today, that's the man I'll be.
(He leaves; they follow. Anders and Chief go to the Deck, Tory and Tigh head for CIC.)
(Galactica Deck)
Pilot: I can't do my job until I have my Raptor.
Deckhand: Well, get in!
Cally: Where the hell have you been?!
Chief: I'll tell you later. Get that bird in the tube! Get those steps off, come on! Come on, everybody, we're under attack!
Chatter: Let's go, let's go! Get her in the Viper, hurry!
(Lee listens to the public address and heads toward the pilots' racks.)

Adama: Arm and load all nuclear weapons.
Gaeta: Yes, sir.
(Tory and Tigh arrive.)
Adama: It's good to see you, Colonel.
Tigh: Good to be here, Admiral. You can count on me.
