Spray fountain may soon grace Riverfront Park ; Rotary Club to fund sprayground, complete; with 155 jets, some shooting 4 stories high

Jordan Lewis and his friend Ryan England, both 13, got the big news last week while walking through Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane.
Right where they were standing, the boys were told, right there at Spokane Falls and Howard, the city plans to erect a big spray fountain.
Without hesitation, Ryan said, "That would be awesome."
Jordan echoed the sentiment: "That would be pretty cool, our own little water park."
Actually, it's not so little. The combination sculpture and fountain would shoot water nearly four stories into the air. Its overall diameter would be 60 feet.
Some 155 jets would be capable of throwing 3,500 gallons of water every minute.

Dead old racist warmongering anti-Semite misogynist criminal Richard Nixon might also have been a tender lover in the handful of moments in his life when he wasn’t up to something terrifying, sayeth a new book! Not to his wife, of course; she, like everyone else in America, was often brutalized by Tricky Dick. No, it seems Nixon may have been a giant self-loathing closet ‘mo who found secret happiness in a spirit-marriage to a smarmy Mafia goon he picked up in Florida. According to this book from veteran journalist Don Fulsom, Nixon even gave his special friend his own room at the White House, took him on adorable gay vacations to the Keys and allegedly held hands with him under the dinner table, AW. What else did they do, sing show tunes together?
Due out next month, Fulsom’s racy bio, Nixon’s Darkest Secrets, asserts that Nixon carried on a decades-long affair with Mafia-connected Floridian Charles “Bebe” Rebozo, unquestionably one of the 37th U.S. President’s closest confidants. Rebozo often vacationed with Prez Dick in Key Biscayne, both with Nixon’s wife Pat along and not. During the men-only visits, the twosome reportedly frolicked together in and out of the water, and gushed over their shared passion for Broadway musicals.
We can’t really process that last sentence! Next bizarre detail, about Richard Nixon practicing his make-out skills on his military aides, from the Daily Mail:
Fulsom claims one of Nixon’s former military aides had a secret job ‘to teach the President how to kiss his wife’ so they would look like a convincing couple.
How much of this can we believe? Nixon died in 1994 and his reputation is pretty much irredeemable. As with [Clint] Eastwood’s [J. Edgar] Hoover film, there is no definitive proof, but plenty of ‘supporting evidence’.
Fulsom quotes a former Time magazine reporter who, at a Washington dinner, bent down to pick up a fork and saw the two holding hands under the table. It was, the reporter judged, sufficiently intimate to suggest ‘repressed homosexuality’.
Ha ha, “repressed” seems to imply some kind of ambiguity or something. A Republican politician holding hands with another dude under the table at dinner in the 1970s is like the modern-day equivalent of Larry Craig waving his hands around under an airport bathroom stall — pretty clear cut!

-- where my job was -- I -- I was called the First Lieutenant, so to speak, which meant that really I was the -- the head janitor. By that, I mean that I was in charge of keeping the place clean, you know, having the -- the men that kept the -- the place clean and shaped up and so forth and so on. And we had a very strict commanding officer. He was a fine man, but he was strict. And on inspections, he just gave us the devil. Fortunately, I had a chief, chief who was a real outspoken, tough guy -- he'd been in the Navy for twenty years, and the only reason he was at Fleet Air Wing Eight is that he was stationed on a carrier in the South Pacific, and the carrier was hit by a kamikaze, and he was blown into the air and landed on his feet and had flat feet. And so they sent him back, and here he was, and he didn't like it being there, but he did his job. Well, one of the things that the commanding officer had a fetish about was clean toilet bowls, and the toilet bowls usually were yellow. It was -- the water was that bad, but there are perhaps other reasons toilet bowls become yellow, I must admit. And three times we got a -- a -- a minus mark because our -- everything else was clean but our toilet bowls. The commanding officer said, "They just aren't clean enough." I said, "Chief, we've got to do something about it." He said, "Lieutenant, I'll take care of it."

Well, we -- once you took the bar exam, it's pretty scary taking it, and it's even scarier waiting to see whether you've passed. See, the bar exam was three days of written examination. Seven hours a day. And everything that you have learned in three years of law school is all on the line for those three days. And so I thought back, "My God, I wonder if they can read my writing". I -- I've never been a very legible writer. And I wondered if I knew enough, and so forth and so on. So I waited and waited and waited. And I'd been told that when you receive notice of the bar that it would be received by mail. And if it were a large envelope, give up. Because a large envelope would simply have application blanks for you to apply to take it again. If you had passed, it would be a small envelope. Well, we watched and watched and watched for it. And my mother opened -- went to the mailbox. It was Rural Route 1, Box 75A on [unclear: Lufinwell] Road. And she came in, and tears were coming down her cheek because I had told her about the large and small envelope, and she handed me a brown manila envelope. It wasn't very big, but it wasn't small. So I took it, and I went into the bathroom to open it. I opened it up, and I had passed. And I came out, and everybody cheered and so forth. And if we'd been a drinking family, we'd have had a drink. But, as it was, we celebrated in milk.

The roar of a chain saw filled the air at Riverfront Park on Thursday as workers began clearing the path for construction of a new fountain at the park's entrance along Spokane Falls Boulevard.
The $1.5 million fountain - designed so that people can walk and play among its many water jets - is one of two large-scale improvements being undertaken on the south side of the park this year.
Workers last month removed the park's vintage gondola as part of a $2.5 million upgrade of the breathtaking ride above lower Spokane Falls and gorge.
At the fountain site at Spokane Falls Boulevard and Howard Street, a demolition crew Thursday ripped out a small food concession building and cut down two sycamore trees standing in the way of the project.

Without a shred of patience, children who had been corralled for 30 minutes of speeches were set free Thursday in the gushing waters of Rotary Riverfront Fountain, squealing and shrieking as jets sprayed them from all directions.
"It's awesome!" said Logan Sandstrom, 8, shivering while his friends danced in the water. "I ran through and got pretty much cold."
The $1.4 million project, located next to the Looff Carousel and serving as an entrance to Riverfront Park, opened in a ceremony attended by city officials, business leaders and Rotary Club members.
"It's really a true testament to the spirit of this community and the spirit of Spokane," said Mayor Jim West.

He dumped me off at the St. Francis hospital in Federal Way where the first thing they did was secretly drug my food. I found it very hard to restrain the urge to laugh shortly after I had eaten.

Riverfront Rotary Fountain
The Riverfront Park Rotary Fountain is located on Howard Street at the South entrance to Riverfront Park. It is a popular attraction for beating the Summer heat. Kids love it!
Dedicated on September 1, 2005 to “the people of Spokane” and under the care of the Spokane Parks Department, the fountain is destined to be a popular attraction for many years to come. The Downtown Spokane Rotary Club 21 and the Spokane Parks Department worked together to make the fountain a reality. Financial support was also provided by numerous donors whose names appear around the fountain. Harold Balazs is the artist.
The fountain has five stainless steel columns that are 24 feet tall. These support a 30 foot diameter ring containing 40 overhead jets. The jets spray towards the middle of the fountain producing a dome of water and a waterfall in the fountain's center. Eight geysers shoot water upwards. The fountain also has dozens of mist jets, and the five boulders have jets that spray sideways. To conserve water, the fountain water is filtered and recirculated.
You can catch the fountain in action from Spring to Fall, 6 a.m. to midnight.

UA pulled it back, in the same release year, and retitled it "Montana Mike" and sent it back out again, one of the few instances where an original title and an alternate title occurred in the same original release period or year, despite some sources that seem to think original and alternate and re-issue titles all came about in the same year. Actually it was a "religious" film or, to be more specific, a "religious fantasy" film. but it sold well in the stix as a Western, and worked well as one also. It seems that in Heaven, the Book of Life and The Book of Destiny are all out of balance because of one guy, a Montana saloon keeper and cold, ruthless killer, and the problem is the angels forgot to make a entry in the Book of Life for him. So a Heavenly Messenger named Michael---evidently a favorite name for angels in movies or else some people have long memories---is sent down to do what he can in getting the books balanced. Dance-hall girl Marjorie Reynolds and preacher's-daughter Jorja Curtwright help complicate the auditing.
