10.14 "The Shroud"

[ FIRST LINES ]

EXT—VILLAGE SQUARE OFFWORLD, DAY

[SG-1, still missing Daniel, walk through the village, talking with the leader, Tevaris. Tevaris carries a copy of the "Book of Origin" with him.]

TEVARIS
He was very persuasive.

MITCHELL
Convert or die. Yeah I'd say that's got some bite.

TEVARIS
He said nothing of death, only salvation and life eternal. The blessings of the Ori.

VALA
(suspicious)
He didn't threaten you?

TEVARIS
He spoke of…the religion. Left this book with us to read and consider. Said he'd be back today to hear our answer.

[Tevaris indicates the "Book of Origin" in his hand.]

CARTER
Well, you're not alone. This is happening all over the galaxy.

TEVARIS
Are you saying this Prior's claims are false?

MITCHELL
We're saying that book's got about as much truth in it as The DaVinci Code.

VALA
(conspiratorially)
Hey, that's what they want you to think.

MITCHELL
"They?" They who?

TEVARIS
I do not understand.

MITCHELL
It's a book, from our planet. It's very entertaining, but it is fiction nonetheless.

VALA
(chuckling to Tevaris)
I wouldn't be so sure.

[Carter steps in front of the group.]

CARTER
Okay, I think we've gotten a little off point, here.

TEVARIS
What evidence do you have to support your position?

CARTER
(off-guard)
Well, we really don't…have any. And we can't tell you what to do. Obviously, subjugating people by threatening their lives is wrong. So if you choose to resist, we'll do our very best to try to help you.

MITCHELL
Not that we can make many promises, but we've seen a number of villages just like this one wiped out.

VILLAGER
(in background)
Load the wagon and take it to the river.

TEVARIS
As I have said, the Prior made no such threat… and spoke upon the positive merits of Origin as true salvation.

MITCHELL
(low, to Carter)
Soft-sell, that's a new approach.

CARTER
(to Mitchell)
Mm-hmm.

VILLAGER
(calling from a distance)
The Prior of Ori returns!

MITCHELL
Listen, no matter which way you're gonna come down on this, it's probably best if that Prior doesn't know we're around.

TEVIAS
(nodding)
You can hide here.

[Tevaris leads the team to a tent. They remain in the shadows there, watching through the opening as the Prior approaches. Villagers gather around as Tevaris greets the Prior.]

TEVARIS
Welcome back.

PRIOR
Thank you, Tevaris. Have you contemplated your divine right?

TEVARIS
We have, Prior. We wish to hear more of your wisdom.

PRIOR
It is not my wisdom, but the wisdom of the ages passed on to us by the only true gods…

DANIEL
Hallowed are the Ori.

DURAN DURAN LYRICS

"Lonely In Your Nightmare"

Even on the darkest night when empty promise means empty hand
And soldiers coming home like shadows turning red
And when the lights of hope are fading quickly then look to me
I'll be your homing angel I'll be in your head

Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And there's heat beneath your winter let me in

I see the delta traces living lonely out on the limb
And a passing glimmer warm beneath your skin
Please tread gently on the ground when all around you earth turns to fire
Only get a second chance when danger's on the wind

Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in

Must be lucky whether when you find the kind of wind that you need
Come on show me all the light and shade that made your name
I know you've got it in your head I've seen that look before
You've built your refuge turns you captive all the same

Because your lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's barren in your garden let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Because you're so lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's cold out on the stone range let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in

I've got a ton of "Stargate SG-1" DVDs that I have never watched before, even when they broadcast new on television

The only episode I can recall watching of "Stargate SG-1" other than those first episodes I noted a while back here in my blog, was that 04 January 2005 episode titled "It's Good to be King." I don't recall precisely when I watched that episode. I'm not sure if I saw it on the day it premiered. I was thinking I watched it when it was rebroadcast but I really don't know. I must have seen it in the first half of 2005, the way I remember it. That episode featured time travel but I don't remember much about it now. I still haven't gone back to watch it on DVD.

And this is really the only significant portion of that episode I recall now still to this day. To this day I haven't gone back to watch that episode. But that day I watched it back as referenced above is still in my mind and this is the plot element I can still recall.

STARGATE SG-1

IT'S GOOD TO BE KING

EPISODE NUMBER - 813

DVD DISC - Season 8, Disc 4

ORIGINAL U.S. AIR DATE - 02.04.05

JACKSON (still looking at the column): This is incredible.

MAYBOURNE: No, no, this is, uh, interesting. This (he gestures for Daniel to look at another square column) is incredible.

(They all walk over to the second column.)

TEAL'C: What is it?

MAYBOURNE: It's a record of the planet's history, covering major events. Only some of them haven't happened yet.

CARTER: What are you talking about?

MAYBOURNE: They have a complicated lunar calendar. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I did I realised there were references in the text to things that are gonna happen in the future. (Sam and Teal'c look at him suspiciously.) Yeah, I know -- it sounds crazy. I didn't think much of it either at the time, but then this big meteor shower happened exactly on the date the stone predicted.

CARTER: You're sure you're reading it correctly?

Damn. This sounds like the last thoughts of someone that just stepped on a land mine.

DURAN DURAN LYRICS

"Sound Of Thunder"

I've been in this grass here for the last ten hours
My clothes are dirty but my mouth isn't dry
How does it happen does it fly through the air
Woah I gave up asking days away I gave up asking days away

And now I'm lying here waiting for the sound of thunder
Waiting for the sound of thunder

Here I am I'm a dotted line cut in through corners stick me through your door
I'm the man who stepped off the path
Am I just lying here that's what I was made for

And now my eyes are closing but I still feel the land
Leaning out for the touch of my hand
The world spins so fast that I might fly off
The world spins so fast that I might fly off
The world spins so fast that I might fly off

Waiting for the sound of thunder
I'm waiting for the sound of thunder [repeat and fade]

All right - what now?

Why am I starting to feel lousy?

And lonely for my wife?!!

[JOURNAL ARCHIVE 04 May 2007 excerpt ends]

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 05/04/07 6:25 PM
Ah - she was giving me a reminder again of how lousy it feels to not feel her feelings of love for me. It sounds crazy, but I am really starting to believe I have some kind of ability like that. Our society conditioning us to not believe such notions, but who knows. If I am crazy, I sure do enjoy fooling myself that she loves me. It is a great feeling.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 05/04/07 6:35 PM
The thought occurs to me that it might be cool if she and I could live together for a while before my real memories return. I don't have the ability to make such arrangements though. And it seems that such an arrangement might cause my real memories to suddenly.....something. It sounds like a cool idea though.

JOURNAL ARCHIVE: 05/04/07 9:24 PM
What an unusal dream. I can't even begin to describe it. All I remember is that it was about Phoebe and there was a lot of detail to it. It was about this puzzle I was trying to put together. But it is as though I was given strict orders to forget what I had been dreaming of; to not remember the details when I woke up.
