HOUSE. In someone's house, Elizabeth Weir appears on the television screen. She has recorded a video message for someone.
Doctor Elizabeth WEIR (on the TV): Simon, if you're watching this, it means the President has been kind enough to grant you security clearance. (We see a man, obviously Simon, sitting in the living room of the house and watching the video.) I'm not going on a diplomatic mission to another country. I'm going to another planet in another galaxy by means of a device called the Stargate. Millions of years ago there was a race of beings we call the Ancients.
(As Weir continues to speak, we see various members of the expedition as they spend their last day on Earth. Lieutenant Ford is kissed goodbye by his grandmother, and she and his grandfather make a big fuss of him as he gets into a taxi.)
WEIR: They created a network of these Stargates throughout our galaxy in order to travel freely among their worlds.
(Doctor Beckett is having a last meal with his mother. It looks like she's bringing him a dish of haggis. She puts the dish down as he smiles delightedly, and kisses him on the cheek.)
WEIR: We don't know why, but they left for another galaxy somewhere between five and ten million years ago, taking their entire city along with them.
(Doctor McKay is giving his cat to a neighbour to look after. She is already holding the cat's bowl and a large bag of cat food. McKay strokes the cat one last time, then picks up his bag and walks away.)
WEIR: That city was called Atlantis.
(In a park somewhere, Sheppard is sitting on the grass. He flips a coin into the air, catches it with one hand, slaps it onto the back of his other hand, hesitates for several seconds, then reluctantly looks at the result.)

I have been puzzling for a while about the 1976 movie "Midway." Today I remembered some things I was saying back at Microsoft that were from that movie. The part about how they broke the Japanese code by disseminating false information and listened for the Japanese to repeat it. I can't remember who I was saying that to, Vince maybe, but most likely Lynn, if not both. I was puzzling over that movie recently because it was released around the time I am thinking I intercepted the comet and maybe there was some symbolic intent there with the movie, along with the bicentennial celebration. I was also thinking today about how Midway was on my mind a few months ago when I found a reference to that book that listed Midway and Operation Praying Mantis as the 5 most influential battles of the U.S. Navy on seapower.

The space craft I used to transport the bombs to the comet surface was not unlike the torpedo bombers that were featured in the 1976 film "Midway" which I had created and produced at that specific time because of my activities in space in 1976. The feature I identified with was that those torpedo bombers carried only one bomb that was attached to the centerline and that was similar to the space craft I use to travel into Comet Lucifer in 1976. But in terms of my personal attachment, I tended to think of it as something closer to the A-6 Intruder jet bomber aircraft that I had flown during the Vietnam War on Iron Hand missions and I was also a F-4 Phantom II fighter jet pilot and it was that Phantom II I was flying on 6/19/1968 when the enemy tried to overwhelm my position

Well, it's not that easy. This is a replica of the great pyramid of Giza. We're not gonna find any hieroglyphic inscriptions or carved relief. I mean, we really need to look around more.
[Ferretti and Kawalski have joined O'Neil and heard Daniel's response.]
O'NEIL
Your job here is to realign the Stargate. Can you do that or not?
[Daniel nods, then shrugs.]
DANIEL
I can't.

I can decipher the symbols on the Stargate, but I need an order of alignment. Now those coordinates were marked on tablets back on Earth and there must be something like that here. And I-I just need to find it.
[He chuckles nervously.]
KAWALSKI
Find it? Whaddya mean, find it? You didn't say anything about "finding" anything.
DANIEL
Well, I assumed the tablets would be here, I mean right here.
O'NEIL
You assumed?!
KAWALSKI
(angry)
You're a lying son of a bitch!
(he shoves Daniel to the ground)
