NASA astronauts are getting some new duds, and you’re invited to have a look.
In anticipation of the upcoming Artemis program that will send space flyers back to the moon in 2024, the space agency will hold a media event at its Washington headquarters Tuesday to show off two new spacesuit designs. The event will be live-streamed here beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
One of the suits, known as the Orion Crew Survival System, will be worn during launch and reentry aboard the Orion spacecraft. The other, called xEMU for Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit, will be worn during excursions on the moon and, later, on Mars.
NASA said the xEMU is designed to outperform spacesuits worn during the Apollo era, as well as the ones now worn during spacewalks outside the International Space Station.
“You won’t see the bunny hopping and falls like those seen in the Apollo videos, because we’ve added bearings and new soft elements to help the suit move smoothly with the wearer,” Marshall Smith, director of NASA’s human lunar exploration program, said in a statement. “With the improvements to the suits for Artemis missions, astronauts can now open up new possibilities for science and exploration at the moon.”
The new suit will accommodate “a broad range of astronaut sizes,” the agency said in a separate statement. That could help NASA avoid a repeat of an embarrassing situation that occurred in March, when the agency had to cancel the first all-female spacewalk at the last minute because it didn’t have enough suits of the right size.
That first-of-its-kind spacewalk will now take place Oct. 21

Face of the Enemy
That 2008 film "The Day the Earth Stood Still" was fairly good.
But it was RUINED with the casting of some of the actors, notably Keanu Reeves.
I would watch it more often if not for the ridiculous presence of Keanu Reeves and that stupid kid.

Jane joined KREM as the station’s main anchor in January 2010. She’s the station’s main weekday anchor for KREM 2 News First at 4:00 p.m. and KREM 2 News at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m..
“For the last decade it’s been my privilege to tell the stories of this amazing community,” said Jane. “The people I have met here trusted me to tell their powerful stories and I want to say thank you! I hope my stories have honored them. I love this community and adore my outstanding co-workers at KREM. The only thing that could tear me apart from KREM and this community is the need to be with my family in Seattle.”
Jane and her husband have traded off commuting back and forth from Seattle to Spokane on weekends over the last year after he accepted a job with Seattle Public Schools. Jane has accepted a position as a communication and branding specialist with Boeing Defense. Jane’s last day at KREM will be October 15.

Tonight at 5pm, Jane McCarthy made her debut as co-anchor of KREM 2 News at 5 and 6pm. Jane succeeds Nadine Woodward who spent 19 years on channel 2. According to Ms. McCarthy's bio she will only anchor at 5 and 6pm? Why wouldn't she anchor the 10 and 11pm newscasts? What are your first impressions of Ms. McCarthy? Alfred Henry Sturtevant, (born Nov. 21, 1891, Jacksonville, Ill., U.S.—died April 5, 1970, Pasadena, Calif.), American geneticist who in 1913 developed a technique for mapping the location of specific genes of the chromosomes in the fruit fly Drosophila.
Sturtevant received his Ph.D. degree (1914) from Columbia University. While serving as a researcher at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C. (1915–28), he proved that the mechanism of crossing-over (i.e., the exchange of genes between chromosomes) could be prevented in Drosophila. In 1928 he joined the faculty of the California Institute of Technology, where he remained until his death.

By virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and statutes of the United States, particularly the First War Powers Act, 1941, as President of the United States and as Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy, it is hereby ordered as follows:
1. There is hereby established in the Office of War Mobilization a Retraining and Reemployment Administration (herein after referred to as the Administration), the functions of which, subject to the general supervision of the Director of War Mobilization, shall be exercised by a Retraining and Reemployment Administrator (hereinafter referred to as the Administrator) to be appointed by the Director of War Mobilization.
2. With the assistance of a Retraining and Reemployment Policy Board, composed of a representative of the Department of Labor, the Federal Security Agency, the War Manpower Commission, the Selective Service System, the Veterans Administration, the Civil Service Commission, the War Department, the Navy Department, and the War Production Board, it shall be the function of the Administration:
