The Cliff Mass/Greta Thunberg Power Hour! For Kids!

Every time the isolation of this world I was *forced* into 15 years ago contiguously, my tiny apartment feeling like a jail-cell, the people lurking around when I venture outside to the trash compactor feeling like prison wardens evaluating my every footstep, every time the product of my research inflates my brain with importance, I remember this guy.

This is one of the people who do not need to convince you of his credibility.

Credible people just remind me of how much a poseur I am.

The Real Climate Debate

The real climate debate is not between "believers" and "deniers".

And not between Republicans and Democrats.

The real debate is certainly not over whether global warming, spurred by increasing greenhouse gases, is a serious problem that must be addressed. Both sides of the real climate debate agree on that.

The real rebate is between two groups:

1. A confident, non-political group that believes technology, informed investments, rational decision making, and the use of the best scientific information will lead to a solution of the global warming issue. An optimistic group that sees global warming as a technical problem with technical solutions. I will refer to these folks as the ACT group (Apolitical/Confident/Technical)

2. A group, mainly on the political left, that is highly partisan, anxious and often despairing, self-righteous, big on blame and social justice, and willing to attack those that disagree with them. They often distort the truth when it serves their interests. They also see social change as necessary for dealing with global warming, requiring the very reorganization of society. I call these folks the ASP group (Anxious, Social-Justice, Partisan).

There is no better way to see the profound difference between these two groups than to watch a video of the testimony of young activists at the recent House Hearing on Climate Change, which included Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greta Thunberg FRSGS (born 3 January 2003) is a Swedish teenage environmental activist on climate change whose campaigning has gained international recognition.

Misuse of her name

In late 2018, Ingmar Rentzhog, who claims to be one of the first to publicise Thunberg's climate strike, asked her to become an unpaid youth advisor to his climate startup company. He then used her name and image without her knowledge or permission to raise millions for a WDHT for-profit subsidiary, We Don't Have Time AB, of which Rentzhog is the chief executive officer. Thunberg received no money from the company. She terminated her volunteer advisor role with WDHT once she realised they were making money from her name, stating "[I am] not part of any organisation… am absolutely independent… [and] do what I do completely for free."

An Action-Packed Summer Read -- Tom Clancy's Latest Storms The Shores

By Melinda Bargreen

Seattle Times Staff Critic

Rumblings in the distance are growing louder, as a phalanx of trucks approaches local bookstores. There is a diesel storm rising.

Tom Clancy is back.

Yes, fans, the latest humongous Clancy doorstop of a book - at 752 pages, a veritable Cortez Kennedy among action-thrillers - officially hits stores tomorrow. From there, it will undoubtedly commence liftoff for The New York Times' best-seller list and eventually a theater near you.

"Rainbow Six," a new techno-thriller about an elite international antiterrorist squad, has all the usual Clancy paraphernalia: action galore, taut plotting, state-of-the art weapons and heroic guys about whose safety the reader need entertain no serious fears.

The main hero here is John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL who went ballistic in an earlier Clancy novel, "Without Remorse," and whom Clancy has called "the dark side" of his primary hero, Jack Ryan. (Ryan, of course, first surfaced in "The Hunt for Red October" and has since escalated into the most heroic American president since Lincoln).

Clark is quite a fellow, too. He has more decorations than the White House Christmas tree: Navy Cross, Silver Star with a repeat cluster, Bronze Star with Combat-V and three repeats, three Purple Hearts, et al. He's the hero of many covert international missions in which the Free World's bacon was definitively saved.

He may be pushing 60, but Clark can still run with the big dogs, and he still gets that dangerous look on his face that makes smart people not want to mess with him.

There are many stupid people in the world, however, and Clancy has a field day with a bunch of environmental extremists who are the chief (though not only) villains of "Rainbow Six." These wackos have concocted a biological blowout more deadly than anything Saddam Hussein could ever contrive, an apocalypse that will heal Mother Nature and get the buffaloes roaming again on the prairie.

The extremists of "the Project" first manifest themselves in a puzzling series of terrorist strikes, which conveniently begin just as Clark's tautly trained Rainbow squadron is ready for action. But why, they wonder, are they being called upon to counter such incidents as a hostage scenario at a Swiss bank, a high-level kidnapping at a German Schloss and a raid on a Spanish amusement park in which innocent children - two of them in wheelchairs - are held at gunpoint?

Could these incidents be related? That's the question John Clark ponders, but all Clancy fans know the answer: You bet your nuke-launching sub they're related.

"Twilight Zone"

Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there's a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him.
It's two A.M.

It's two A.M., it's two A.M
The fear has gone, the fear has gone
I'm sittin' here waitin', the gun's still warm
Sittin' here waitin', the gun's still warm
Maybe my connection is tired of takin' chances
Yeah there's a storm on the loose, sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence, all circuits are dead
Cannot decode, my whole life spins into a frenzy

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

I'm falling down the spiral, destination unknown
Double-crossed messenger, all alone
Can't get no connection, can't get through, where are you

Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the borderline
When the hitman comes
He knows damn well he has been cheated
And he says

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far

Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go, now that I've gone too far
