The Expanse (Star Trek: Enterprise)

"The Expanse" is the title of a season-two Star Trek: Enterprise television episode. This episode was the second season finale, marked a change of direction for the series by launching the Xindi arc, a season-spanning story arc that would encompass all of season three and the first three episodes of season four.

When an unknown alien race, the Xindi, attack Earth with a space probe that cuts a destructive swath from Florida to Venezuela, killing over seven million people, Enterprise is recalled to Earth by Admiral Forrest.

The crew learn that seven million people have been killed, one of them being Trip's sister, Elizabeth. The loss devastates Trip, who swears revenge on the Xindi.

An alien probe unleashes an assault upon Earth. Enterprise is recalled, and along the way home Captain Archer acquires information that the perpetrators come from a mysterious region of space known as the Delphic Expanse.

A probe from an unknown alien source unleashes a devastating assault on Earth, cutting a swath from Florida to Venezuela. Millions are killed, including Trip's younger sister, and Enterprise is called home. On the way back, the ship encounters a Suliban vessel that abducts Archer. Once again, Archer comes face to face with Silik and the mysterious humanoid figure. The figure informs him that the probe that attacked Earth was sent by the Xindi, a race that believes humans will destroy their homeworld in the future. They were given this information by individuals from the future who can communicate through time.

The Xindi

Original air date September 10, 2003

"The Xindi" is the premiere episode of the third season of Star Trek: Enterprise. The episode officially introduced the season's story arc in which the crew of Enterprise scour the Delphic Expanse to prevent the Xindi from destroying Earth (although some exposition was provided in the second season finale, "The Expanse").

Based on information from a freighter captain "of questionable character", Jonathan Archer leads Enterprise to a mining colony within the expanse. He strikes a deal with the mine's foreman, a man who is characterized as equally suspicious.

Archer and Trip Tucker are allowed to meet a Xindi-Humanoid worker named Kessick. Archer tries to extract the coordinates of the Xindi homeworld, Xindus, from him

Unfortunately, Kessick is injured in the firefight on the surface and dies shortly thereafter. On his deathbed, however, Kessick imparts coordinates for the Xindi homeworld. When the ship reaches this position, there is nothing but a field of debris, which they determine has been there for over a hundred years. Therein lies the dilemma: If the Xindi attacked Earth because they believe their homeworld is to be destroyed by humans in the future, how can their homeworld already be destroyed?
