Stampede Pass

I must have been lying in bed for over four hours last night and could not fall asleep for that much time and longer because I started thinking during the night last night that Stampede Pass is where I materialized after the L-1011 Stargazer spiraled down from over forty thousand feet after breaking into pieces and then crashed with such force that it virtually vaporized on contact with that ground. I started thinking of how that scene with "Picard" and his wife announcing that dinner was ready could be a detail I created to represent the details I read about the source of the name for Stampede Pass, as well as how "Kirk" mentions that he smell something burning in the kitchen. I thought over many details last night as I hoped to fall asleep and I was thinking of how the dialog with the statue in the 1996 film "Star Trek: First Contact" is about how after I understood that my aircraft was unflyable because, for one reason, a wing had just broken off due
to impact with debris from the Pegasus rocket that had just exploded in front of my windshield, I was turned around part ways in my seat as the pilot and I had my had outreached to shake the hand of Kerry Burgess and I spoke that flying with had been an honor but the aircraft was spinning too fast for us to shake hands. When I materialized at Stampede Pass I felt as though I had materialized about one inch or two above the ground and I found myself standing there in the woods on that dirt road with absolutely no idea where I was and I was standing there with my hand still reaching out to shake his hand.

Spiral dive

There are two types of possible lateral dynamic motion. The first is called the spiral mode. If a spirally unstable aircraft, through the action of a gust or other disturbance, gets a small initial roll angle to the right, for example, a gentle sideslip to the right is produced. The sideslip causes a yawing moment to the right. If the dihedral stability is low, and yaw damping is small, the directional stability keeps turning the aircraft while the continuing bank angle maintains the sideslip and the yaw angle. This spiral gets continuously steeper and tighter until finally, if the motion is not checked a steep, high-speed, spiral dive results.

Stargazer

Strange how I decided to watch one of these episodes for the first time in recent memory and how this was the episode I chose to watch today. What this reminds me of is that story about how I survived the crash of the L-1011 "Stargazer" on 27 June 1994 because I was propelled through the windshield as I was the pilot of the aircraft. The reality is the none of us actually survived the crash. The aircraft hit the ground at a tremendous speed after spiraling from forty feet above the ground and was virtually vaporized upon impact. I am the recipient of some kind of highly advanced technology that allows me to reemerge in physical form after my physical body is destroyed and I did reemerge that day but after about two days had elapsed in the real world and I was over a thousand miles from the crash point. There is some kind of force that controls that advanced technology that controlling force makes changes to the reemergence process and that was why I did
not immediately reemerge. Until 1998, every time I reemerged after my physical body was destroyed, I always returned as the exact same person I was before, with knowledge in my mind up to the very second that my physical body was destroyed.

My return in 1998 was different though. I returned but I am a composite version of Tom Reagan and Kerry Burgess. I am not as tall as Tom Reagan and I am as tall as Kerry Burgess but I do not have the physical scars of Kerry Burgess, such as the gunshot wound scar he had on his shoulder.

The helicopter crew lowered a line to survivors to tow them to shore. First to receive the line, Bert Hamilton, who was treading water about ten feet from the floating tail, took the single lifeline dangling beneath the chopper and passed it under his arms. The others watched while the helicopter carried him a hundred yards to the Virginia shore and returned. The helicopter pilot had to gently move the survivor across the ice, while avoiding the sides of the bridge and keeping an eye on the crowd.

After the ship pulled past me as I floated in the ocean, I saw a Seahawk helo lift off from the deck, seemingly from the bow, which is odd, and then it was approaching me and I was anticipating it is winch me up as it hovered over me. Another odd detail is that it actually seemed to land, although I cannot visualize it landing, impossibly, on the ocean surface, but I recall that detail because I noted that the tail rotors almost hit me.

Sau was the guinea pig for an experimental Mars spacesuit that he and about 40 other students from five North Dakota schools developed under a $100,000 grant from NASA.
The suit was formally unveiled Saturday, on the last day of a test in a craterlike area surrounded by buttes in the North Dakota Badlands, the highly eroded landscape that researchers say resembles Martian terrain.

It took about 20 minutes for Sau to put on the 47-pound (21-kilogram), two-piece spacesuit with the help of two others. "Free Fallin" is the opening track from Tom Petty's 1989 solo album, Full Moon Fever. The song was written by Petty and his writing partner for the album, Jeff Lynne. The song was released as a single, and was a top 10 U.S. hit in January, 1990. It also topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Bush twins get citations in alcohol-related case

AUSTIN - Police cited the 19-year-old twin daughters of President Bush on Thursday on misdemeanor alcohol-related charges.

It was Jenna Bush's second alcohol-related brush with the law in two months

The Houston Chronicle also has learned the ticket could mark Jenna's third alcohol-related incident.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission confirmed Thursday that Jenna Bush is listed in its database for an alcohol-related on Dec. 31, 1997.

On Thursday, the girls were cited for attempting to buy alcohol at a popular Mexican restaurant in Austin.

Jenna Bush was ticketed for misrepresentation of age by a minor for allegedly using someone else's identification to order an alcoholic beverage. Barbara Bush was cited for possession of alcohol by a minor because she ordered and was served an alcoholic beverage, Austin police said.

Chapman said the restaurant manager called 911 after bar patrons recognized Jenna Bush.

"People at the bar identified and told people at the bar, `You know we think this is Jenna Bush,' which got more spotlight than it normally would," Chapman said.

He said Jenna Bush ordered a drink and, when asked for identification, handed the waitress someone else's valid identification.

NEW YORK -- Investigators of the massive blast at the World Trade Center were stymied Saturday by the severity of the damage as the city awakened to an emotional and economic aftershock.

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said it may be days before investigators can sift through the rubble at the epicenter of Friday's explosion, which killed five and injured more than 1,000 at the soaring business and trade center in lower Manhattan.

Forensic investigators were barred by engineers from entering the area until sections of the underground parking garage where the blast originated could be shored up.

But even in the absence of forensic reports, police and other officials agreed that a massive bomb or bombs probably caused the violent explosion. Three levels of the parking garage were devastated.

"There is a great crater in there, and it is difficult to imagine what else could have caused it," said New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, who toured the site Saturday morning.

"If it looks like a bomb and smells like a bomb, then it's probably a bomb. . . . The answer is to find out who did it, apprehend the people who did it and punish them."

It kept getting worse.

The horror arrived in episodic bursts of chilling disbelief, signified first by trembling floors, sharp eruptions, cracked windows. There was the actual unfathomable realization of a gaping, flaming hole in first one of the tall towers, and then the same thing all over again in its twin. There was the merciless sight of bodies helplessly tumbling out, some of them in flames.

Finally, the mighty towers themselves were reduced to nothing. Dense plumes of smoke raced through the downtown avenues, coursing between the buildings, shaped like tornadoes on their sides.

Every sound was cause for alarm. A plane appeared overhead. Was another one coming? No, it was a fighter jet. But was it friend or enemy? People scrambled for their lives, but they didn't know where to go. Should they go north, south, east, west? Stay outside, go indoors? People hid beneath cars and each other. Some contemplated jumping into the river.

For those trying to flee the very epicenter of the collapsing World Trade Center towers, the most horrid thought of all finally dawned on them: nowhere was safe.

LUFKIN - Finding the piece of debris that might give clues to why the space shuttle Columbia broke apart on re-entry has been described by one NASA official as like "looking for a needle in a haystack."

Monday, the haystack got bigger.

While lawmen and volunteers in several East Texas counties were beating the piney woods and lake shores for more remnants of Columbia, the size of the "debris field" was enlarged to take in a portion of West Texas and a longer stretch of Louisiana.

Authorities did report a major find Monday. A man found the shuttle's nose cone buried about six feet in the ground on his land just outside the town of Hemphill. The cone was said to be in good shape and searchers planned to excavate it today.

Most of the significant debris and body parts apparently have been found between Nacogdoches and the Sabine River, but some fragments may be found as far east as the New Orleans suburbs and west of the point over Dallas-Fort Worth where the shuttle began to disintegrate.

On September 18, 2001—a week after the September 11 al-Qaeda terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center—letters containing anthrax spores were sent to Tom Brokaw at NBC news, Peter Jennings at ABC news, Dan Rather at CBS news, and to the editor of the New York Post. The letters passed through a mail-sorting facility in Hamilton, New Jersey. Two employees at the New York Post, two NBC workers, an employee at CBS, six local postal workers, and a baby who had visited ABC all became ill. The illnesses were not immediately recognized as anthrax, but the victims received medical treatment and recovered.

Two weeks later, in early October 2001, Robert Stevens—a photo editor at the Sun (a tabloid newsmagazine) in Boca Raton, Florida—died from an undiagnosed disease. Two other employees in the building also fell ill but were treated and recuperated. The illnesses were later identified as anthrax, and Bacillus anthracis spores were traced to a mail bin in the building.

Soon afterward, in mid-October, anthrax-spore-containing letters were sent to Senator Tom Daschle of South Dakota and Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, who work in the Senate office buildings in Washington, D.C. On October 17 anthrax spores were also found in mail bins at the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. The Capitol Hill buildings were closed for cleaning, and hundreds of congressional workers were told to start taking the antibiotic ciprofloxacin to protect them from anthrax.

The mailed anthrax spores were examined by scientists at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The experts found that the anthrax powder in the Senate letters was "professionally done" and "energetic,"41 meaning that the spores wafted into the air to form a spreading cloud. This is a characteristic of weaponized anthrax. In addition, scientists discovered that the strain of anthrax in the letters was identical to a strain being studied at USAMRIID.

Moreover, researchers found that though the letters were tightly sealed and taped, the anthrax spores were small enough to squeeze through pores in the envelopes when the letters passed through mail-sorting machines. Government investigators believe, therefore, that the terrorist (or terrorists) had not meant to infect postal workers or the general public. Morris Jr., who worked at the Brentwood mail-sorting facility in Washington, D.C., developed inhalation anthrax and died. The other victims in Washington, D.C., were treated and survived. The Brentwood postal facility was closed soon afterward, and two thousand postal workers were instructed to start taking antibiotics.

About two weeks later, on October 31, a New York City hospital worker named Kathy Nguyen died of inhalation anthrax. She did not work or live near a building where anthrax had been found, and no one knows how she contracted the disease. A similar incident occurred on November 30, when Ottilie Lundgren, a Connecticut resident, died of inhalation anthrax. Researchers speculated that the women may have handled mail that passed through an anthrax-contaminated postal facility.

Electoral fraud

Electoral fraud is illegal interference with the process of an election. Acts of fraud tend to involve affecting vote counts to bring about a election result, whether by increasing the vote share of the favored candidate, depressing the vote share of the rival candidates or both. What electoral fraud is under law varies from country to country; methods which are illegal in one country may not be in another. Many kinds of voter fraud are outlawed in electoral legislation but others are in violation of general laws such as those banning assault, harassment or libel. Although technically the term 'electoral fraud' covers only those acts which are illegal, the term is sometimes used to describe acts which although legal, are considered to be morally unacceptable, outside the spirit of electoral laws or in violation of the principles of democracy. may comply with the law.

In national elections, successful electoral fraud can have the effect of a coup d'état or corruption of democracy. In a narrow election a small amount of fraud may be enough to change the result. Even the perception of fraud can be damaging as it makes people less inclined to accept election results. This can lead to the breakdown of democracy and the establishment of a dictatorship.

Electoral fraud is not limited to political polls and can happen in any election where the potential gain is worth the risk for the cheater; as in elections for labor union officials, student councils, sports judging, and the awarding of merit to books, films, music or television programmes.

Despite many instances of electoral fraud, it remains a difficult phenomenon to study. This follows from its inherent illegality. Harsh penalties aimed at deterring electoral fraud make it likely that individuals who perpetrate fraud do so with the expectation that it either will not be discovered or will be excused.

Prosecution

In countries with strong laws and effective legal systems, lawsuits can be brought against those who have allegedly committed fraud; but determent with legal prosecution would not be enough. Although the penalties for getting caught may be severe, the rewards for succeeding are likely to be worth the risk. The rewards range from benefits in contracting to total control of a country.

Influenza A virus subtype H5N1, also known as "bird flu", A(H5N1) or simply H5N1, is a subtype of the Influenza A virus which can cause illness in humans and many other animal species. A bird-adapted strain of H5N1, called HPAI A(H5N1) for "highly pathogenic avian influenza virus of type A of subtype H5N1", is the causative agent of H5N1 flu, commonly known as "avian influenza" or "bird flu". It is enzootic in many bird populations, especially in Southeast Asia. One strain of HPAI A(H5N1) is spreading globally after first appearing in Asia. It is epizootic (an epidemic in nonhumans) and panzootic (affecting animals of many species, especially over a wide area), killing tens of millions of birds and spurring the culling of hundreds of millions of others to stem its spread. Most references to "bird flu" and H5N1 in the popular media refer to this strain.

According to the FAO Avian Influenza Disease Emergency Situation Update, H5N1 pathogenicity is continuing to gradually rise in endemic areas but the avian influenza disease situation in farmed birds is being held in check by vaccination. Eleven outbreaks of H5N1 were reported worldwide in June 2008 in five countries (China, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Vietnam) compared to 65 outbreaks in June 2006 and 55 in June 2007. The "global HPAI situation can be said to have improved markedly in the first half of 2008 [but] cases of HPAI are still underestimated and underreported in many countries because of limitations in country disease surveillance systems". On December 9, 2010 the WHO announced a total of 510 human cases which resulted in the deaths of 303 people since 2003.

A filtered and purified Influenza A vaccine for humans is being developed and many countries have recommended it be stockpiled so, if an Avian influenza pandemic starts jumping to humans, the vaccine can quickly be administered to avoid loss of life. Avian influenza is sometimes called avian flu, and commonly bird flu.
