Ronon Dex is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis. Played by Jason Momoa, he is a Satedan, a civilization from the Pegasus Galaxy who had a technological level comparable to Earth in the mid-20th century but met the fate of all advanced civilizations in Pegasus when their homeworld Sateda (P3R-534) was devastated several years ago by the Wraith. When Ronon Dex and the Atlantis expedition first met in the season 2 episode "Runner", Ronon Dex had been a Runner for the past seven years. He joined the Atlantis Expedition shortly afterwards, effectively replacing Aiden Ford on Sheppard's team after Ford had become addicted to a wraith enzyme and had fled Atlantis.

Jason Momoa, along with some of his fellow cast members, have said that they think of Ronon as the Atlantis version of Chewbacca.

Paused now about the 00:04:40 point of the DVD, where I know from reading earlier the transcript that the helicopter I see on the screen is going to come under fire from the “Atlantis” weapon THING, I know for certain I have never watched before the severe racketeering production the 2004 television series “Stargate: Atlantis.”

This morning I am now for the first time watching the DVD for the premiere episode of the television series “Stargate: Atlantis.”

Ronon Dex is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Stargate Atlantis.


Role in Stargate Atlantis

Ronon is a native from Sateda, a planet with an advanced level of technology. His grandfather suffered from Second Childhood, a condition with symptoms similar to Alzheimer's Disease. Ronon became a member of the Satedan military where he held the rank of Specialist. He was very close to a woman named Melena, whom Ronon considered "close enough" to a wife in "Sunday". Approximately seven years before Ronon's first contact with the Atlantis Expedition, the Wraith attacked Sateda. Ronon remained behind with Melena to fight the Wraith, but the Wraith defeated Satedan forces and Melena was killed before Ronon's eyes in an explosion Ronon was later captured by the Wraith. When the Wraith discovered that they couldn't feed on him, they turned him into a Runner, implanting a tracking device in his upper back and setting him loose to be constantly hunted.

Ronon stayed alive for seven years by learning several new tricks and deciding to hunt them back with his weapons. He owns a unique energy pistol which emits red bursts of energy that stun or kill at the user's discretion. It resembles a revolver with a power cell where the ammunition cylinder would be located. (The same type of weapon is shown to be used by a people in the season 4 episode "Travelers", but Ronon displays no knowledge of these people.) Ronon also carries a sword; the hilt is made from a Wraith mandible and humerus wrapped in Wraith hair, the blade is made from the metal of a Wraith ship, and the scabbard is made from a Wraith leather coat. The episode "The Hive" shows Ronon carrying several knives hidden on his person for use in emergencies. (He uses four and it is implied there may be more.) Ronon's seemingly unlimited supply of these blades is a source of occasional comic relief.

When the Atlantis team encounters Ronon for the first time in season 2's "Runner", they arrange a removal of the tracking device in his back.

I used the health insurance provided by Microsoft to obtain a prescription of sleeping pills from a doctor in Bellevue Washington because I was having a really hard time sleeping at night. Many nights I could not sleep at all and I would stay awake all night. That was well after I had started going to his office. I first went there to his office, after finding a medical doctor close to where I lived, for routine physical and I used the health insurance Microsoft provided to me to pay for the doctor's visit. That was the time the medical doctor told me I should have something checked on my back, which was actually on my shoulder and on the skin over the shoulderblade. I went back later and he had a biopsy done on it, all paid for by Microsoft health insurance. Part of that was from a penetrating gunfire wound that hit me in the front first and then exited from my back. Other parts are from a explosion that hit behind me and that drove shrapnel under my skin.

That would explain the pain in my shoulder.





I think I found the bullet exit wound on my shoulder. I can see what appears to be an exit scar from a bullet wound on my back and around where the shoulder blade is located. That makes sense that it was not removed through the laser surgical procedure to hide the entry wound on the front of my chest. The exit scar of the gunfire injury I sustained in 1993 is something I had never even noticed before until I just now started looking for it but I can now definitely see it there. The doctor I went to in Bellevue in about 2002 or 2003 must have seen it too.

[Parrish walks off towards the plant he had seen. Lorne looks around and notices something on the ground. He shines his light on it and crouches down for a closer look.]

PARRISH
Major!

[Parrish is looking at something on the ground and Lorne runs to join him. There is a dead Wraith lying on the ground. There is obvious injury to the body and Lorne checks the blood, which is still wet.]

LORNE
Doesn't look like the sun killed him.

PARRISH
What do we do?

LORNE
(into radio)
Coughlin, this is Lorne. Any activity?

COUGHLIN

LORNE

I wouldn't have even been riding along that stupid little bridge except that we had moved to a new office complex in nearby Issaquah and I still had a lease on my apartment in downtown Bellevue.

Our office had been in a downtown mid-rise office tower next to the Bellevue mall and I lived in a really nice apartment about two blocks north. That apartment was quite possibly the nicest place I had ever lived before then. It was appointed better than the house I used to own in Greer South Carolina but that house was much larger and it was still very nice for a hundred thousand dollars. That won't buy you anything out here that I know of. Maybe that park bench I was sleeping on for a while back in the summer of 2005.

The apartment in Bellevue was really more than I could afford and almost most of my salary went towards the rent. The apartment was really cool and brand new and about as close to luxury as I knew. The top floor unit was on the south-west corner and I had a beautiful view of downtown Bellevue. I told a coworker once I could see the colors on his computer monitor on his desk with binoculars from my apartment. My desk was on the opposite side of the tower but my group occupied the entire floor of that building which I think was the Bank of America tower. With a small telescope I could have easily read whatever was displayed on his computer monitor if I had wanted to.

That Limestone building was the apartment I lived at in the summer of 2001. I called the Bellevue police 9-1-1 many times during that summer to complain about the noise a small business across the street was making at night.

I can recall trading emails with Lesa Jewell Withem after the 9-11 attacks when I still lived there. I think I contacted her first. I always remember, for some reason, what she told me about Felicia Simpson. Lesa told me that Felicia had remarried because her first husband was a "dud."

I think that was right after 9-11-2001. I don't recall for certain. Hell, that could have been a few months later. The way I remember it I was still living in that Limestone apartment building in Bellevue when I communicated with her and I specifically remember discussing the 9-11-2001 attacks. I moved out of that Bellevue apartment and moved to an Issaquah apartment and I think that was around March or April 2002 when I moved out to Issaquah. I remember that my rent payments were going to be drastically lower in Issaquah and I could then afford a car and that is when I got a loan for a brand-new 2002 Jeep Wrangler. Some time later is when I think Thedia was trying to get me to brag about being gunshot in 1993 and when I guessed she had tricked me so could rifle through my glovebox to see the name on the vehicle registration. She brought a cute girl with her that time and that I had never met before and that "fine bitch" insisted on giving me a hug and she said something odd just before that. I was so depressed later that day I couldn't even drag myself out of my apartment to go meet them for dinner.
