Surrogate rookies

That's got to be it. A world artificial. A reality artificial. That explains why I make the observations I make. The beauty is that only I have to believe that what I describe is true. Perhaps other people are having similar credible experiences. I don't know. Maybe I am supposed to be the only one who has the actual experience. Other people just have to believe that what I say is really happening to me. Maybe that's all they have to do. After all, the processor always knows what you're thinking.

Remember the thunder? I was sitting alone watching that "Planet of the Apes" sequel and the thunder started outside. Only I knew that was such an uncanny coincidence. Because I was sitting here alone at the time.

For the very longest time I felt that maybe, perhaps, my purpose was to broadcast a message on the world-wide internet and so that individual people would make a choice.

And for that long time, from the point the notion formed in my mind, I felt there was an unfairness to that possibility.

What about all the people who can't access the internet, I wondered.

What about them? Don't they get a chance?

So then I thought, Well, maybe that's what's taking so long. It's taking so long so those hapless people will have a chance to catch up.

Now, today, I'm thinking that is not the case, at least not any longer.

Sure, that was the case, though. The more time it took then there would have certainly been some people catching up.

But what I decided today is that in this world artificial there is by its very nature going to be people artificial who will never catch up.

The whole point is about finding the people artificial that populate this world artificial who are savvy enough to understand the value of computer technology and to use it in their daily lives.

The people who don't have internet access, for example, or access to my message, won't even get the chance to move on to the next level.

You can't have the statistical probabilities without having the statistical improbabilities.

It is actually because of the human instinct, or more properly animal instinct, for survival. As long as humans and their instinctive predecessors have walked this earth, death has surrounded us. It has been an ever-present observation that other creatures die and thus so will we at some point. The concept of religion, of the after-life, of the soul, is an attempt to survive, to cheat death. That is why it is popular, because people are scared of dying and their fear controls their lives.

Goddamn stinking zombies. These people are like 55% zombie and 45% human. I don’t know what the balance is, at some point they are going to start trying to eat the brains of humans. What’s is been – 13, 14 months now I’ve been living with these pre-Zombies? Creeps me the hell out.

Details about my recent sleep are very fuzzy today. Can't remember for sure when I woke up. 3 am maybe. Or maybe shortly after midnight, can't really remember as I usually can. Remember dreaming something about driving my Jeep. Then I returned to it where it was parked in a parking lot after I was traveling through some passageways, hallways in a transit facility maybe. The only part I remember clearly is where a woman, I assume was my imaginary girlfriend asked me out for drinks or something. I told her we needed to keep it really casual though because all I had to wear was sweatpants. Kind of the downside to dating a homeless person I reflect now as I write this. She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe. That would be sweet!

I, Robot (2004)

Dr. Alfred Lanning: [voiceover] There have always been ghosts in the machine. Random segments of code, that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. Unanticipated, these free radicals engender questions of free will, creativity, and even the nature of what we might call the soul. Why is it that when some robots are left in darkness, they will seek out the light? Why is it that when robots are stored in an empty space, they will group together, rather than stand alone? How do we explain this behavior? Random segments of code? Or is it something more? When does a perceptual schematic become consciousness? When does a difference engine become the search for truth?

Why?

I don't know.

I just don't feel right, Audrey.

Do you resent us, David?

1:09:55
Resent the life you have?

Plot Summary for

Privilege (1967)

Steven Shorter is the ultimate British music star. His music is listened to by everyone from pre-teens to grandparents. He has no trace of public bad habits or drug involvement. Everyone in Britain loves him. His handlers begin to use his popularity for projects like increasing the consumption of apples after a bumper crop as an aid to farmers. The handlers decide that Steven should support God and Country next. This leads to, among other things, a rock version of "Onward Christian Soldiers," and the inclusion of a Nazi salute to make it clear (to the viewer) how far the British population will be taken for love of God and Country under Steven's guidance. Steven is very plastic in his direction, shifting as his handlers point him toward new projects until he meets Vanessa Ritchie, an artist who makes him look at what's happening.
