What I started thinking last month, during December 2012, is how I finally resolved my relation to Joseph Wayne Burgess.
I have written several times that I started thinking that Joseph was my second uncle and I wrote that I wasn’t really certain if that was accurate. I didn’t really think it through more beyond that point.
Last month I started thinking extensively on that topic.
I started thinking that he is indeed my uncle but he is biologically my half-uncle and not my second uncle as I had before written.
What I started thinking over several different periods of thought is that he and my biological father, whom I had never met before 1989 and whom I guess I had never met since and certainly not in the past decade, are biological half-brothers.
That means Joseph Burgess and Prince Charles would be biological half-brothers, according to that line of thought.
Joseph Burgess and my biological [ father ], my thinking goes, have the same biological father but they have different biological mothers.
I was raised to believe Joseph Burgess was my biological father but according to thoughts I had last month extensively he would have been actually my biological half-uncle.
His biological father would be my biological grandfather.

Beware Those Boomeranging E-mails

Broward County School Board member Darla Carter might want to consider the value of her delete button before she sends out another abusive e-mail.
I've seen at least a dozen insulting notes she has sent to average folks since her re-election in 2002. I don't know if more wacky Carter e-mails are floating around the Internet, but as far as I'm concerned, one is too many.
Carter's latest victim was William T. McFatter Technical High School senior Tripti Bhatnagar, whom the School Board member berated in an e-mailed rant earlier this week.
Bhatnagar, 17, is a college-bound student taking advanced placement courses. She is president of her church youth group and reads the newspaper online. She has opinions, especially about the school system.
So in a polite three paragraph e-mail, Bhatnagar gently chided Carter about a comment she made to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel about cutting the winter vacation to make up time lost because of Hurricane Wilma. Carter was quoted as flippantly saying this about the new school calendar: "That's so lame."
Bhatnagar wrote: "Even as a high school student, I would not say things like, `That's so lame,' to the press. Your feelings about cutting winter break one day short may be strong, but as representatives of the people of the county, you should think hard before you say things."
Carter fired back. The relevant portion of the School Board member's e-mail is reproduced, with its grammatical mistakes, as written:
"Since you don't understand the calendar and what we were fighting for (your vacation time), why would consider writing this message to us??? Infact, I suggest you look up to your peers when they're fighting for your rights, OR, do you not believe in Woman, for some reason??? So what Country were you born in??? Maybe you don't understand the American Woman and what we believe in, I only hope you do, because someday you will be married and be old enough to understand what we're fighting for as well!!! Sincerely Darla L. Carter."
Bhatnagar, who was born in the United States to parents from India, was stunned. She e-mailed me.
"I could not believe that a person who represents me could be so degrading," she wrote. "I could not believe anyone could be so degrading. I am proud of my Indian heritage. I am also very proud to be an American. When I read `maybe you don't understand the American Woman and what we believe in' I was angry.
"I understand the American Woman because I am one," Bhatnagar continued. "Criticizing my Womanhood, age, race, patriotism, marital status, and understanding of the school calendar was wrong."
Carter's response?
"It was poor judgment on my part and I would apologize," Carter said this week.
OK.
But what about the Nov. 1 e-mail response she sent to Virginia Heck, who had expressed frustration that schools remained closed because of Hurricane Wilma?
"Why can't you get your act together? Why can't you open the schools that DO have power?" Heck wrote Carter.
Carter's response, which she copied to a host of other staff and School Board members, ended with: "STOP BITCHING TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS, O.K.??? No thanks for your input, and by the way, get over it!!!"
Heck couldn't believe what appeared on her screen. She typed back: "You should lose your job for your horribly rude response. Let me remind you that my taxes pay your salary."
