William J. Clinton

XLII President of the United States: 1993-2001

Statement on the Oklahoma City Bombing Trial

June 2, 1997

I cannot comment on the jury's verdict, but I will say that this is a very important and long overdue day for the survivors and families of those who died in Oklahoma City. And I am very, very proud of the work of Attorney General Janet Reno, the prosecutors, the FBI, and the ATF.

Two years ago, I spoke to the families of 168 people who lost their lives at the Murrah Federal building. I told them that though they had lost much, they had not lost everything—and they had not lost America. I pledged then and I pledge now that we will stand with them for as many tomorrows as it takes. Today I say to the families of the victims, no single verdict can bring an end to your anguish, but your courage has been an inspiration to all Americans. Our prayers are with you.

Dead Reckoning (1947)

You went through my papers?
The war's over. Where are we going
and why? We don't like secrets.
Thank you. I should have known better
than try to hold back from men...
...who have operated the way
you have behind enemy lines.
I wanted Gen. Steele to see
your faces when you heard.
Cold Steele?
It's his doing that
your recommendation passed.
- Johnny's congressional?
- Congressional?

How the Clintons went from ‘dead broke’ to rich: Bill earned $104.9 million for speeches

By Philip Rucker, Tom Hamburger and Alexander Becker June 26, 2014

Over seven frenetic days, Bill Clinton addressed corporate executives in Switzerland and Denmark, an investors’ group in Sweden and a cluster of business and political leaders in Austria. The former president wrapped up his European trip in the triumphant Spanish Hall at Prague Castle, where he shared his thoughts on energy to a Czech business summit.

His pay: $1.4 million.

That lucrative week in May 2012 offers a glimpse into the way Clinton has leveraged his global popularity into a personal fortune. Starting just two weeks after exiting the Oval Office, Clinton has delivered hundreds of paid speeches, lifting a family that was “dead broke,” as wife Hillary Rodham Clinton phrased it earlier this month

Bill Clinton has been paid $104.9 million for 542 speeches around the world between January 2001, when he left the White House, and January 2013

Hillary Clinton defends millions earned in speaking fees

By: Catalina Camia June 9, 2014 10:04 am ET

Hillary Rodham Clinton defended the millions of dollars she and her husband have been earning in speaking fees, saying they had huge bills to pay when he left the White House.

“We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt,” Clinton told Diane Sawyer of ABC News. “We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea’s education. You know, it was not easy.”

The ABC News interview is part of a media onslaught as Clinton’s memoir, Hard Choices, goes on sale Tuesday. The excerpt about speaking fees aired Monday on Good Morning America, and there is more to come Monday night.

Bill Clinton earned more than $106 million in speaking fees since his presidency ended in 2001 through January 2013, according to an analysis by CNN. Since Hillary Clinton left the State Department, she has been earning as much as $200,000 per speech from businesses such as Goldman Sachs and trade groups such as the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries.

Officer at Leaving Ceremony: Army Rangers have a proud history. Since the 1700s, Rangers have led the way in every major confrontation in which the United States has been involved. You men are a credit to that fine heritage, and I'm sorry to see you go. But you've served your country well, and you've displayed the ability to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete its mission, never leaving behind a fallen comrade no matter what the odds or the enemy. I thank you. America thanks you. And I wish you luck wherever you go. And remember: Rangers lead the way.
