Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance is a memoir by United States President Barack Obama. It was first published in July 1995 as he was preparing to launch his political career, five years after being elected the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review in 1990.
Obama's March 2004 U.S. Senate Democratic primary victory in Illinois led to the book’s re-publication in August 2004, two weeks after his July keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (DNC). The 2004 edition included a new preface by Obama and his DNC keynote address.

UNION, S.C. -- A mother who said a carjacker dumped her on a lonely road and drove off with her two young sons confessed to killing the boys, her arrest warrant shows. Susan Smith, 23, was arrested Thursday in their slayings after two bodies were found in a car submerged in a rural lake, police said.
A police spokesman said two bodies, as yet unidentified, had been found in the back of the submerged car Smith was driving when she said she was stopped by a man who stole her vehicle and drove off with her two children, Michael, 3, and Alexander, 14 months, strapped in the back seat.
The discovery of the two decomposed bodies, which were expected to be identified in an autopsy today, came just a few hours after Smith made the most recent in a long line of tearful appeals in front of television cameras to have her children returned to her.
"I have prayed to the Lord every day," Smith said on Thursday. "It's just so sad that someone could take such beautiful children. I have put all my trust and faith in the Lord that he will bring them home to us."
The children apparently drowned in John D. Long Lake, a popular spot for fishing and picnicking.
Union County Sheriff Howard Wells said Smith would be charged with two counts of murder. Wells announced Smith's arrest at an early evening news conference outside the County Courthouse. He said formal charges were expected to be filed today. Wells would not answer questions about why Smith would have killed her children or how such a hoax could have fooled investigators and others for more than a week.
Wells said Smith has been incarcerated at an undisclosed location.
The toddlers allegedly disappeared from a rural highway near Union on Oct. 25, when, Smith said, a man commandeered her Mazda Protege, forced her to drive several miles out of town, and then pushed her out and drove off with the two children in the back seat.
She described the carjacker as a black man between 20 and 30 years old. Since Thursday, sheriff's deputies, the FBI and other law-enforcement agencies have tracked down one dead-end lead after another. She said that she had begged the man to let her have her children, but that he had told her that he would "take care of them."
