Bill Clinton hospitalized with chest pains
By Ron Fournier
The Associated Press
NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton checked into a Manhattan hospital today with chest pains and will soon undergo bypass surgery, his office announced.
An angiogram given to Clinton, who had been expected to campaign for Sen. John Kerry in his run for the White House, revealed "significant blockage," said a Democratic official. It did not appear that Clinton suffered a heart attack, said the official, who had discussed the condition with the former president's staff and spoke on condition of anonymity.
There was also no official word on when the surgery would take place. A source speaking on condition of anonymity said it was not likely to take place today, but Sen. Hillary Clinton said her husband was advised "to do it as soon as he could."

Clinton heart surgery successful
By The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times
Former President Clinton successfully underwent heart bypass surgery yesterday and began a safe recovery from the four-hour operation, according to his surgeon and other doctors.
Four major blood vessels that supply oxygen to Clinton's heart were found blocked, several by as much as 90 percent, said doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Without the surgery, they added, he probably would have had a major heart attack soon.
Surgeons wove four bypasses around Clinton's clogged arteries in an operation they described as routine. The surgery began around 8 a.m., and Clinton started to emerge from sedation by 4 p.m.
1995 film "Major Payne" DVD video:
Emily Walburn: How about you? Was there ever a Mrs. Payne?
US Marine Corps Major Benson Payne: Negative. I figure if the Marines wanted me to have a wife they'd have issued me one.
Emily Walburn: Well, I had a really nice time tonight, Benson.
US Marine Corps Major Benson Payne: Heck, being with you is almost better than cleaning my gun. I got something for you.
Emily Walburn: Oh, what is it?
US Marine Corps Major Benson Payne: It's a bullet. It's something special. It's from my heart.
Emily Walburn: Really? Well, where'd you get it?
US Marine Corps Major Benson Payne: From my heart. Left ventricle. I took it out myself with a field knife. And I want you to have that.
Emily Walburn: Thank you, Benson. Good night.
US Marine Corps Major Benson Payne: Good night, princess.

Eve Whitfield (Character)
from "Ironside" (1967)
"Ironside: Pilot (#1.0)" (1967)
Robert Ironside: [Inspecting a small envelope] Some miscellaneous nuts.
[Looks at Ed]
Robert Ironside: Some miscellaneous nuts?
Det. Sgt. Ed Brown: I tagged that one myself.
Robert Ironside: I don't believe it. You wrote "some miscellaneous nuts"?
Det. Sgt. Ed Brown: Well, what's the matter with it?
Robert Ironside: Why nothing at all. Except that in police work there is no such things as "some," numbers are important. And miscellaneous means a lot of different things, and these are all the same. And nuts is too general and happens to be incorrect. Otherwise, a splendid piece of labeling. One, two, three, four, five, six. Not some miscellaneous, just six. Now, six what? Not nuts, what?
[Toss the object to Ed]
Robert Ironside: Ed, what is that?
[Ed inspects it and then tosses it to Eve]
Robert Ironside: That's right, Miss Whitfield has had the benefit of an expensive classical education, perhaps...
Eve Whitfield: It's an acorn.
Robert Ironside: An acorn. Exactly. Six acorns. Now, what do we know about acorns? Come, come. Has no one ever told you that mighty oaks from little acorns grow? The acorn is the fruit of the oak, but do you see any oaks in among those sycamores. The nearest oak is a hundred yards from those sycamores. Now, query: how came those acorns among those sycamores?
