Locke says he won't run for third term

OLYMPIA — Gov. Gary Locke said this morning he will not run for a third term, choosing time with his family over a campaign and possibly another four years in the Governor's Mansion.
"After much thought and careful deliberation with my family, I have decided not to seek a third term as governor of Washington state," Locke said.
"Despite my deep love of our state, I want to devote more time to Mona, Emily and Dylan. As profoundly important as it is to be your governor, it is just as important to me to be a good husband and father.
Locke, 53, was first elected governor in 1996. He is the country's first Chinese-American governor.

Gregoire announced her decision minutes after Gov. Gary Locke, a fellow Democrat, said he would not seek a third term.
