INTERVENTION

EPISODE NUMBER - 201

ORIGINAL U.S. AIR DATE - 09.28.10

CAINE: How about some coffee?

JOHANSEN: Sure.

(Caine picks up some pieces of cut wood and takes them across to the stove while T.J. looks around the room. The finish on the log walls, and the perfection of the wooden furniture, together with things like the glass windows, stone fireplaces, metal stove and rugs on the floor, is far superior to anything that these colonists could have built with their limited materials.)

JOHANSEN: Where did all this stuff come from? There's no way you could have made it all.

CAINE: You got that right. We were still working on lean-tos with dirt floors, and the winter was coming. Frankly, I was getting a bit worried. And then one day, on a scout, we found 'em. Half a dozen just like this scattered over the valley.

JOHANSEN: We did an aerial survey. We would have seen them.

CAINE: I know.

JOHANSEN: So they just appear out of nowhere and that's good enough for you?

CAINE: Well, I don't think we would have survived the winter without them, and that's good enough for me.

GERMANY, FORWARD EDGE OF THE BATTLE AREA

"Twenty miles, Duke."

"Right. Call it off, Don."

"Roge. Still no fire-control emanations on us, and no search stuff is lingering our way. Lots of radio chatter, but mostly west of us. Very little VOX coming from the target."

Ellington reached his left hand down to arm the four AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles hanging under his wings. The weapon-indicator light blinked a lethal, friendly green.

"Eighteen miles. Target appears to be circling normally, not taking evasive action."

Ten miles to the minute, Ellington computed in his mind, one minute forty seconds.

"Sixteen miles." Eisly read the numbers off a computer readout keyed to the NAVSTAR satellite navigation system.

The Mainstay would not have a chance. The Frisbee would not begin to climb until she was directly underneath the target. Fourteen miles. Twelve. Ten. Eight. Six miles to the converted air transport.

"The Mainstay just reversed her turn-yeah, she's jinking. A Foxfire just swept over us," Eisly said evenly. A MiG-25 interceptor, presumably acting on instructions from the IL-76, was now searching for them. With its high power and small arc, the Foxfire stood a good chance of acquiring them, Stealth technology or not. "The Mainstay might have us."

"Anything locked on us?"

"Not yet." Eisly's eyes were glued to the threat-receiver instruments. No missile-control radars had centered on the Frisbee yet. "Coming under the target."

AFTERMATH

EPISODE NUMBER - 202

ORIGINAL U.S. AIR DATE - 10.05.10

RUSH: You see, right now I'm trying to understand why Destiny stops at some planets and not others.

GLORIA: Maybe they're just rest stops designed to let people get out, stretch their legs, smell the roses ...

(Irritated, Nicholas turns away from her, slapping his notebook onto the console.)

GLORIA: ... but in the grand scheme of Destiny's greater mission, not very important.

RUSH: Certainly environments can change significantly through the years, become dangerous even. But that would mean Destiny's got some kind of real-time sub-space link to the Gates. And look here ...

(He points to a readout on a screen.)

RUSH: ... this planet we're approaching: different classification entirely -- not merely locked out but it seems to be non-functional.

GLORIA: So it seems.

RUSH (sarcastically): So very helpful.

GLORIA: Do you remember the long walks we used to take in the gardens back home?

(Nicholas grimaces and tries to ignore her.)

GLORIA: Wherever we were, we'd always find a quiet place to call our own.

RUSH: That's it. We need food now. This planet we're approaching should be rich in plant life.

GLORIA: Big red X generally means "danger -- don't go there," doesn't it?

(Nicholas frowns and turns around to face her.)

RUSH: Is this your only purpose -- to question my actions?

GLORIA: So, what are you gonna do?

RUSH: Oh, well, I'll take that as a "yes," then.

(He turns back to the console and activates some controls. Destiny drops out of F.T.L. and enters normal space.
