Never read that book.
The movie wasn't bad, considering it uses that lameoid McConaughey
In fact, along with "It: Welcome to Derry", the movie is probably the best adaption I have seen of a Stephen King novel. The 1990 "It" was a crime-against-humanity it is so incredibly stupid and stuffed with ridiculous actors as the starring characters. The bar was already low because the book is itself boring. And I thought it couldn't get worse than that ridiculous "Maximum Overdrive" from 1986 despite the credible actor Emilio Estevez.
The recent movie-theatre adaptions of "It" are simply as boring as the book.
Last week, started work on a note about "The Tommyknockers" from 1987. Read the book once. Fairly good story overall. Bored with the novel and probably won't ever read it again. The 1993 adaption of the novel was also a tremendously idiotic production.
I have read through some of "The Dark Tower" books by Stephen King. Forgettable. Got bored and stopped reading. "The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands" is probably the farthest I have made it. I have the fourth book on Kindle, no plans to read.
Thought about this again because I am reviewing that book on Wikipedia
Only reason I am looking at this is because Yahoo! News feeds me a link to an article proclaiming Stephen King's book being the best novel of all novels in the world

My DD-214 doesn’t reflect that because, first of all, it is about Kerry Burgess, but also because it only reflects the period ending 5/14/90. I may have still flown as a fighter and bomber pilot after 1987, but I don’t think that was ever my primary role again after returning. I am not sure what to think about the thoughts I have had about flying the Apache gunship. Maybe that is something else I did occasionally.

The 11th-floor New York Avenue law offices with a strategic view of Washington's majestic landmarks are a fair distance from the one-stoplight town of Lonoke, Ark. But these days there is little about Lonoke's most famous native daughter that is not known in the polished suites of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Piece by piece, President Clinton's top-dollar legal team has taken apart the life of Paula Jones, examining topics from her job history to her possible sex partners. They turned up a check she bounced when reimbursing the Arkansas government for personal calls made on state phones. They found previous employers who fired her for tardiness or other reasons. They scoured personnel records and discovered she typed only 24 words per minute and scored 121 out of 174 on an Arkansas state clerical examination.
Venturing into more salacious territory, they interviewed as many as a half-dozen men who claimed to have had sex with her, including some who said they met her casually at parties or bars and then engaged in quick encounters, according to people close to the case. One former boss signed an affidavit alleging that she pursued him at work and that they slept together. After their short-lived relationship ended, he fired her -- in part, he said, because she dressed too provocatively.
Now that the lawyers essentially have finished gathering evidence and made the final pretrial effort to get Jones's sexual harassment lawsuit thrown out, a picture has emerged of who the president's defense team is and where it is headed. Led by veterans of past high-profile political cases, the Clinton legal squad is following an aggressive and political risky strategy centered on Jones herself. After all the attention focused on a president linked by fact or rumor to a host of women -- most recently and most perilously Monica S. Lewinsky -- Clinton's lawyers hope to turn the spotlight with blinding intensity on the life of his most persistent accuser.
"Does her story make sense? It's always been our position to point out why it doesn't make sense," said Mitchell S. Ettinger, a Clinton attorney. "No one's going to argue they weren't in a room together. And you don't have to call her a complete liar. But everything she's said -- about her injuries to her job, her reactions to this, her reasons for filing suit -- it's not going to add up."

On Christmas Eve in 1968, when the Apollo 8 astronauts read passages of the Bible’s Genesis to an Earthbound TV audience, Juan Trippe, the PR-savvy head of Pan American World Airways, thought to phone ABC-TV. He let it be known that the airline was keeping a list of people interested in one day taking a commercial flight to the moon. By the next morning, Pan Am had received “a flurry of requests” from wannabe space tourists, adding to a list that already numbered about 100 names.
Two weeks later, the New York Times reported that the Abruscatos of Long Island, and their two young children, were among the 200 people now on the waiting list. There was a backlog of unprocessed applications pending and more pouring in, even though Pan Am had no means of getting anyone to the moon and lacked the authority to do so if they had. Of course, the company likely had no real expectation of flying anyone to the moon in the near future.
The waiting list is said to have gotten underway in 1964, when Gerhard Pistor, an Austrian journalist, beseeched a Viennese travel agent to book him on a flight to the moon. The agent forwarded the request to Pan Am, where public relations personnel thought to draw up a list of like-minded souls. (The airline made similar waiting lists for the much ballyhooed debuts of the 747 and supersonic transport, which were slated to get off the ground in late 1969 and the early 1970s, respectively.)
A Pan Am spokesperson acknowledged that a few problems would need to be sorted out before lunar flights could get off the ground—among them, the high cost of fuel, passenger comfort during launch, and lack of accommodations on the moon. As the company began mentioning the waiting list in its radio and TV spots, the number of names grew rapidly, and the First Moon Flights Club—complete with a snazzy membership card—was born.
By July 20, 1969, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon, there were 25,000 names on the Pan Am list, and another player had moved into the burgeoning field of space tourism.
Trans World Airlines’ waiting list was smaller than Pan Am’s but had also been growing at a brisk clip since the Apollo 8 mission. Though no real progress had been made in getting the average Joe to the moon, Pan Am figured that, at six cents per mile, a one-way trip would cost about $14,000. Given the lack of lunar accommodations, though, it was a pretty safe bet that most passengers would spring for a round-trip ticket.
Even as Apollo 11 was splashing down in the Pacific, TWA announced that it had filed an application with the Civil Aeronautics Board to be allowed to fly “persons, property and mail between points within the United States and points on the moon.” TWA buttressed its claim by mentioning that it was already serving as a contractor to NASA in various capacities.
In July 1969, Holiday magazine chose the moon as its “place of the month,” and in early 1971, the New York Times Sunday travel section featured an article that speculated on the possibilities of the moon as tourist trap. By this time, Pan Am’s club had swelled to 80,500 members.
New York Times writer Jon Swan wondered if, by the time tourists made it to the moon, there might not be levitators “to whisk individual tourists from crater to crater or from mare to highland.” He speculated, however, that perhaps the novelty would quickly wear off. “Apart from the view, and from whatever thoughts and feelings it might inspire, another moot question is just what the moon will have to offer to the run-of-the-mill tourist.”

BELGRADE — The significance of it all could be seen in the faces of his people.
Tens of thousands pressed up against the ropes and barricades that separated them from the streets and the building that was the focus of their attention. At 12 o'clock bells rang and the roar of guns thundered through the city.
An honor guard carried the simple wooden casket down the red-carpeted steps of the assembly building.
Many of those watching cried.
There was no shame, no effort to hide the tears.
Guards and policemen cried.
Men and women wept openly.
Both young and old were emotionally overcome.
Many clung to each other for support.
The strained faces of those who did not cry mirrored the pain and sorrow they felt.
"Josip Broz Tito was more than a leader and a president to Yugoslavia. He was close to all of us.
"He understood our problems," said one spectator at the funeral services Thursday.
This special "closeness," this unique relationship between Yugoslavians and the man who had been their leader for 35 years brought them to the streets of Belgrade.
Few could really see the ceremony in front of the assembly building.
But they stood, packed tightly together for hours, waiting for the event, wanting to be a part of it, to pay their respects to this man, their comrade whom they loved and honored.
During a 2½-day period prior to the funeral services some half million Yugoslavians filed by Tito's closed casket in the assembly building.
They had waited in lines that snaked around city blocks, down steps and through underpasses, for as long as four and five hours for this privilege.
On Thursday, in addition to the thousands that crowded in the area around the assembly building, there were many more who lined the city streets along the route of the funeral procession.
They were an amazingly disciplined group, quiet and serious, as the occasion demanded.
Security was tight.
In addition to the armed policemen who patrolled the area, there were members of youth groups who wore royal blue cotton work suits and helped to control the crowds.
Men in business suits wearing red arm bands also helped with crowd control.
There were scouts wearing khaki uniforms and Red Cross arm bands who offered water to the thirsty among the crowd.
Far from the mobs of citizens, but close to the ceremony, were the dignitaries, the heads of states and members of official delegations who attended the event.
The ceremony itself was simple but impressive.
Somber symphonic sounds came from loudspeakers and filled the entire area.
Military officers carried the extensive collection of Tito's medals and decorations displayed on red velvet that had surrounded his casket in the assembly.
They took their places in the processional line.
As an American resident of Belgrade pointed out, "I've lived through the terms of seven different U.S. presidents, but most Yugoslavians have known only Tito."
A young Yugoslavian medical student expressed her feelings and those of her countrymen at this moving and monumental occasion. "I don't have enough words to say what I feel. It's a great loss for us. We always thought he would live a long time. But Tito is not only Tito. We are Tito. We have learned his ways. We just have to continue his ideas and his way."

Harvey Weir Cook (June 30, 1892 – March 24, 1943) was an American fighter ace in World War I and Distinguished Service Cross recipient. He was also a pioneer in civilian commercial aviation and a leading figure in the development of aviation in the United States and in state of Indiana.
Later in Indianapolis, he was involved in the development of the first dive bombing sight for the United States Army. He fought for military recognition of the airplanes’ potential and was part of the group of officers who “lost favor” with the Army during the court martial of General Billy Mitchell. Cook served for many years as director and vice president of the American Legion National Aeronautics Commission in Indianapolis and was later the first American Legion National Director of Aviation. Cook became involved in recognizing the Wright Brothers’ contributions to flying. The Smithsonian did not recognize the brother’s flight at “Kitty Hawk” in 1903 as the first powered aircraft flight. Due to his dogged determination, the flight was eventually officially recognized in 1940 as the first powered flight.

Collider recently ranked the top 25 books of the 21st century, with Stephen King's The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower taking the top spot.
While the classics tend to be the most revered titles on any bookshelf, there's no denying that truly remarkable works have also been published throughout the 21st century. For instance, the publication Colliderrecently highlighted some of the most acclaimed fiction and non-fiction books released within the last quarter of a century.
The ranking, titled "the 25 best books of the 21st century," featured Kazuo Ishiguro's 2005 hit novel, Never Let Me Go, Bruce Springsteen's 2016 memoir, Born to Run, Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn: The Final Empire from 2006, and 2015's A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. According to Collider, the top five books released after 2000 are 2008's The Hunger Gamesby Suzanne Collins, Antony Beevor's The Second World War released in 2012, 2011's A Dance with Dragons byGeorge R.R. Martin, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon from 2003, with Stephen King's seventh and final Dark Tower installment, The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower, released in 2004, taking home the top spot.
The publication argued that The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower deserved the title of the "best book of the 21st century" because King masterfully wrote a satisfying conclusion to such a beloved fantasy series. The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower holds a rating of 4.29 out of 5 from 194,238 readers on Goodreads.
In a June 2026 interview on the horror and true crime podcast, The Last Podcast on the Left, alongside his son and fellow author, Joe Hill, King briefly spoke about his Dark Tower series. King shared that he took inspiration from the classic spaghetti Westerns of the '60s when writing the books' protagonist, gunslinger Roland Deschain.
"I was a big fan of western movies, period. And I tried to get in a lot of the things that those books and movies were based on. You know, the idea that the guy has to be alone and he has to be a hero. Although in the early books, Roland isn't very much of a hero. He's actually kind of a bad guy," said King during the podcast interview.
Hill also shared he's a big fan of the Dark Tower series.
"They're kind of like the unified theory of the Stephen King world, you know, and because it picks up so many threads from all the other books. And it's almost like a nervous system running through the whole body of Dad's work, and they're just such great reads. They're just so much fun and such a terrific cast of characters," said the Horns author in the June 2026 interview.
