Claude Rains

I had a notable sleeping dream that was I think in the very early morning hours of this calendar day. I got out of bed trying to remember if I had that dream just before waking up or it had been a few hours earlier because that would mean it was before midnight and on the previous calendar day. I am more certain that it was this calendar day and after midnight today.

The dream was notable because as best I can recall that was the first time I have ever seen Thomas Reagan in a sleeping dream.

As happens normally, the details in my sleeping dream are kind of vague. I cannot recall precise visual details. I cannot visualize seeing his face in my sleeping dream. I recall only that I had knowledge in the sleeping dream that I was talking to Thomas Reagan.

And there is the distinction that I was certain he was not disguised. I have written sometimes that I woke later and while I thought of a person in a sleeping dream as a specific person there was the lingering notion that the person in my dream actually represented another distinct person as though I was seeing a sort of disguised person in my sleeping dream.

The particular dream this morning featured manned spacecraft. I saw something that I looked up on the internet later because I couldn't recall its name and what I saw in the sleeping dream was similar to the US NASA vertical take-off/landing spacecraft from McDonnell Douglas named the Delta Clipper. In the sleeping dream this morning the spacecraft seemed to have a US Army color scheme. There was another rocket I have been thinking but that is too vague to recall.

Then I was flying an aircraft. The crew has passed out and I was trying to keep the aircraft from crashing. The aircraft came very close to the ground. The aircraft was large I am thinking without any real details to explain how I would know that in the dream but I have been thinking there was a crew of five not including me. I saw myself standing next to the unconscious pilot and I recall the instrumentation the heads up display at one point indicated altitude was 26 feet above the ground. Another time might have been one foot above the ground. I was aware of being below tree level and being aware of either hitting trees or coming close to the trees.

Then I was talking to Thomas Reagan. Many of the details have faded from my mind now about that.

I wasn't going to write about any of this but I had a new sense of the profound today: Phoebe Cates has also been on the security drug.

She also stopped taking the security drug.

She created a life of working memory the same way I did, before I did.

21 Beacon Street was an American detective television series that originally aired on NBC from July 2 to September 10, 1959.

Produced by Filmways, the summer replacement series consisted of 11 black-and-white 30-minute episodes starring Dennis Morgan as private investigator Dennis Chase. Other cast members included Joanna Barnes as Lola, his aide; Brian Kelly as Brian, a law school graduate; and James Maloney as Jim, a scientific and dialect specialist.

The title was the Boston address of Chase, who would pass each case to the police after solving the crime.

* PETER looks at his glowing hands

(NATHAN reaches PETER.)

PETER: (looking at his hands) I took his power, Nathan. I – I can't control it.

NATHAN: Let me help you, Peter.

VARIOUS CUTS OF
* NATHAN reaching PETER who is glowing uncontrollably.

[EXT. (NEW YORK) STREET AND SIDEWALK -- NIGHT]

(Peter is on the cell phone and walking across the street.)

PETER: (to phone) Yeah, I need the, uh, first flight out of New York into the desert. Uh, I-I don't know. Nevada, maybe?

(He reaches a sidewalk cafe crowded with patrons.)

PETER: (to phone) Uh ... That's where they did all those nuclear bomb tests, right? Okay. Uh, yeah, Las Vegas. Las Vegas is good. Yeah, whatever.

(Peter starts breathing heavily.)

PETER: (to phone) Yeah, I'll hold.

(A distance in front of him, Peter sees a bearded man make his way among the sidewalk diner patrons. Right in front of them, he looks through their bags, takes their wallets and relieves them of their cash.)

(Peter can’t believe what he’s seeing. The man is disheveled and unshaven. And very familiar.)

QUICK FLASHES OF: CLAUDE laughing at Peter.

BACK TO SCENE.

(Claude takes the cash and puts the wallet back in the bag on the table. He turns and walks away to the next patron.)

(Peter starts after him.)

PETER: Hey!

(Claude ignores him and continues picking items off the tables. He grabs a cell phone and opens it. He continues walking.)

PETER: Hey!

(Peter is still on his own phone as he follows Claude.)

(Claude plays with the cell phone, making it beep. He continues walking. Peter is catching up with him.)

PETER: Hey!

(Claude glances to the side, but keeps on walking. Peter runs up to Claude and grabs his arm.)

PETER: What are you do -- hey!

(Claude stops, truly surprised by Peter. Peter is surprised by Claude.)

CLAUDE: You can see me.

PETER: You --

WHAM!

(Claude turns, grabs Peter by his shirt and slams him up against a lamp post near a streetside vendor who is selling "The Invisible Man" DVDs.)

PETER: Oh!

CLAUDE: (shouts) Nobody sees me!

(Peter gasps.)

CLAUDE: Do ya hear me?

(The vendor looks around and sees no one there. His table is bumped into and jerked around. All the DVDs are knocked to the sidewalk.)

CLAUDE: Nobody sees me! I'm invisible!
