Released January 4, 1967

The Doors is the debut album by the band The Doors, released in 1967. It features the breakthrough single "Light My Fire", extended with a substantial instrumental section omitted on the single release, and the lengthy song "The End" with its Oedipal spoken-word section. The Doors credit the success of their first album to being able to work the songs out night after night at the Whisky A Go Go or the London Fog.

"Break on Through (To the Other Side)" is a song by The Doors from their debut album, The Doors. It was the first single released by the band and was relatively unsuccessful compared to later hits, reaching only #106 in the United States. It is heard on Tony Hawks Underground 2 Remix.

The band played this song amongst five others in a demo for Aura Records in 1965. The song also appears on track one of the bands first album. The song was used for the soundtrack of the video game Tony Hawk's Underground 2, and was also used in the introduction in the game. Elektra Records censors objected to the use of the word "high" in the middle section of the song (after "Everybody loves my baby") due to its drug connotations. The original album version has the line "She Gets" repeated before a grunt at the end. Live versions and later releases of the song have the uncensored version with "high" restored. It has been rumored that the song contains backmasking, saying "I am satan" in the form of the line "treasures there."

You know the day destroys the night

Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Mr. Hand: What are you, people? On dope?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-4

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II[2] is a two-seat supersonic long-range all-weather fighter-bomber originally developed for the U.S. Navy by McDonnell Douglas. The Phantom was used by the U.S. military from 1960 to 1996, and was the primary air superiority fighter and a workhorse fighter-bomber for the US Air Force, Navy and Marines during the Vietnam war.

The F-4 Phantom was designed as a fleet defense fighter for the U.S. Navy, and first entered service in 1960. By 1963, it had been adopted by the U.S. Air Force for the fighter-bomber role. When production ended in 1981, 5,195 Phantom IIs had been built, making it the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft. Until the advent of the F-15 Eagle, the F-4 also held a record for the longest continuous production with a run of 24 years. Innovations in the F-4 included an advanced pulse-doppler radar and extensive use of titanium in the airframe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_barrier

In aerodynamics, the sound barrier is the transition at transonic speeds from subsonic to supersonic travel, usually referring to flight. The term came into use during World War II when a number of aircraft started to encounter the effects of compressibility, a grab-bag of unrelated aerodynamic effects, and fell out of use in the 1950s when aircraft started to routinely "break" the sound barrier.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-doppler_radar

Pulse-Doppler is a radar system capable of not only detecting target location (bearing, range, and altitude), but also measuring its radial velocity (range-rate). It uses the Doppler effect to determine the relative velocity of objects; pulses of RF energy returning from the target are processed to measure the frequency shift between carrier cycles in each pulse and the original transmitted frequency. To achieve this, the transmitter frequency source must have very good phase stability and the system is said to be coherent.

The nature of pulsed radar, and the relationship between the carrier frequency and the Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) means that the frequency spectrum can be very complex, leading to the possibility of errors and tradeoffs. In general, it is necessary to utilise a very high PRF to avoid aliasing, which can cause side effects such as range ambiguity. To avoid this, multiple PRFs are often used.

The lyrics "Break on through to the other side" could be about the so-called sound barrier. "My baby" refers to a jet aircraft or a rocket. "Eyes that lie" could be something about a radar. Something about misreading the radar or false returns on a radar.

That time Thedia took the door off to my bedroom as some kind of punishment when we lived at Randy Romine's house. She did it because the neighbors had complained about me playing around their fenced-in pond.

My earliest "memories" are of her using a door in the kitchen of the house we lived in when she and Joseph were still married. It was an old house that Homer had been using as a barn. She used the door as some kind of kitchen counter top.

The term "gate" could apply to operating a radar as well. I can't remember any details about it off-hand. These lyrics from "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" could be describing a fighter jet. "She gets high" has something to do with altitude. "Island" could have something to do with England. This could all reflect my thoughts over the course of a day in class, where I took bits and pieces of them and created the lyrics, if I did write those lyrics.

...
GATE DECEPTION - A SELF SCREENING ECM technique that returns a large jamming or on-frequency noise signal back to a victim automatic tracking radar. The jamming signal is much stronger than, and thus masks in the (velocity, range, or angle) gate, the true signal returned by the radar cross section of the jamming platform. The jamming signal is then gradually increased or decreased relative to the true return signal, causing the radar's gate to move away from the true signal. After a specified time or signal-magnitude, the jamming signal is turned off, causing the radar to lose its track and go into a search mode to reacquire the target. This process then repeats itself. [8]

GATING - (1) The process of selecting those portions of a signal that exist during one or more selected time intervals. (2) (Radar) The application of enabling or inhibiting pulses during part of a cycle of equipment operation. [3]

"The gate is straight

deep and wide"

Sounds like a description of a radar pulse on a radar screen. The kind that only shows pulses, not the kind of radar screens with the sweeping, circular traces.

I had a very clear dream about putting on a white U.S. Navy uniform with the insignia of a commissioned officer. After I went outside, I noticed that I still had Petty Officer 2nd Class stripes on my sleeve and I needed to go back inside and cut off the patch.

At another point, I was performing a lot of mathematical calculations; orbital calculations. I could visualize some kind of planetary object but I am not sure what it was. It might have been the comet but I'm not certain.

According to this article, Murrah died 2 days before my launch from Earth on 11/2/75. That building named for him was finished in 1977, according to the article, but I don't know the exact date.

Alfred Paul Murrah (October 27, 1904 - October 30, 1975) was an American attorney and judge. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which was named after him, was destroyed in the April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City bombing.
