I looked at Curtis Wilbur, also, awhile back because the '54' reminds me of the Sheffield. There is also that one detail also supports my theory that I was almost killed when the HMS Sheffield was hit just 4 days after I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy.
From his death to 6/8/1982 was precisely 333 months. The Sheffield was hit the previous month.

There has got to be something in my artificial memory, perhaps in 1997, that will link to my real memory of Phoebe. I think it was February 1997 I went to work for Rich at MPCSI. Before that, I was working at that bank in the Capital Markets division as computer helpdesk on the trading floor. I took Tina Mason to lunch while I worked there at the bank. Was that First Union? I never can remember the name of the bank. My supervisor was a former helicopter pilot with the U.S. military. I guess he was Army. I want to say he was a Vietnam veteran but that can't be right. His wife was from Vietnam. Maybe that was it. Or was it Vietnam or another country in the same region? He told me something about how he once went 5 days without sleep. I can remember describing Operation Praying Mantis and I remember describing the sound of the sound of the chaff launchers. He and I were working the night shift at some point as we were installing a new software platform for all the trading computers and we had to work at night. His manager kind of resembled Rodney Dangerfield. Rich saw my name listed in the company email and he and Stan were setting up that company and I think it was February 1997 I started work there. We were working out of his wife's house in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Tom Huston and his wife came in for Rich and his wife's wedding. His new wife was a grandmother and had quite a few years on Rich. I can't remember Tom's wife's name but I remember I talked to her a lot at the wedding.
There has got to be one specific memory of Phoebe in my artificial and symbolic memory. She's there somewhere. I just have to remember it. Nothing I would remember from a movie. Something. It must be there. I just saw a photo of her and that thought came to mind again. Something relevant to my real life. Then it was gone. A strong sense of almost remembering something relevant about her and then it was gone, just like that. Somewhere in my mind is something I can puzzle over that will give me conscious awareness again of Phoebe. I look at the photos of her and think I see someone who cares for me. I just can't consciously connect those feelings with actual memories. I want to remember. I want to remember!! I wonder if that blouse really is similar to her blouse or if I got spoofed by that comment on Conan. I have been thinking for a while that the actual reason for her wearing that blouse that resembles my comforter is something I said to the television when I was sitting by myself in the t.v. room in the Pioneer Square gulag. At least, I think that was where I said it out loud. It could have been earlier. I said that Steve Pool seemed to be wearing one of my ties and I wondered if they got it from the storage locker I lost control of after I was forced into homelessness as a result of the Microsoft-Corbis-paparazzi treachery.
Priceless.

That first Ironman triathlon was right around the mid-point of 4/14/1977 and when "Superman" premiered on 12/15/1978. It is off by 5 days from the mid-point.
The problem with scheduling for symbolism is that that triathlon event and that movie were day-of-week constrained. Assuming that the release of "Superman" on 12/15/1978 was a locked date, then to schedule for the precise mid-point, the first Ironman triathlon would have had to occur on the previous Monday, 2/13/1978.
Seems hard to imagine I could have recovered enough in 310 days to race in that event, let alone finish it in under 12 hours.

The Ironman World Triathlon Championship or Ironman Triathlon is an annual triathlon race, made famous by its grueling length, race conditions, and sports television coverage, is one of the most famous triathlon events in the world.
Held during the Northern Hemisphere's Fall season in the US city of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii the race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometre) ocean swim in Kailua-Kona Bay, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometre) bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert to Hawi and back), and ending with and a 26 7/32 mile (42.195 kilometre) marathon along the coast of the Big Island (from Keauhou to Keahole Point to Kailua-Kona); finishing on Ali'i Drive.
The sport of Triathlon was born in Southern California, where multisport events involving swimming, cycling, running, and other things were run by athletic clubs celebrating summer exercise. Ironman Triathlon was the first major competition to extend the distance from a fun morning frolic to an endurance event. The first Ironman Triathlon was held in 1978 Honolulu, Hawaii until 1980. In 1981, the competition was moved to the less urbanized Big Island by Valerie Silk. The following year, Silk moved the race date from February to October. There were two Ironman Triathlon events in 1982 as a result of the change.
The idea for the original Ironman Triathlon arose during the awards ceremony for the 1977 Oahu Perimeter Relay (a running race for 5-person teams). Among the participants were numerous representatives of both the Mid-Pacific Road Runners and the Waikiki Swim Club, whose members had long been debating which athletes were more fit, runners or swimmers.
On this occasion, U.S. Navy Commander John Collins pointed out that a recent article in Sports Illustrated magazine had declared that Eddy Merckx, the great Belgian cyclist, had the highest recorded "oxygen uptake" of any athlete ever measured, so perhaps cyclists were more fit than anyone. Cdr. Collins and his wife, Judy, had taken part in the triathlons staged in 1974 and 1975 by the San Diego Track Club in and around Mission Bay, California, as well as the Optimist Sports Fiesta Triathlon in Coronado, California, in 1975. A number of the other military athletes in attendance were also familiar with the San Diego races, so they understood the concept when Cdr. Collins suggested that the debate should be settled through a race combining the three existing long-distance competitions already on the island: the Waikiki Roughwater Swim (2.4 mi./3.85 km), the Around-Oahu Bike Race (115 miles; originally a two-day event) and the Honolulu Marathon (26.2 mi./42.195 km).
It is worth noting that no one present had ever done the bike race; Cdr. Collins calculated that, by shaving 3 miles off the course and riding counter-clockwise around the island, the bike leg could start at the finish of the Waikiki Rough Water and end at the Aloha Tower, the traditional start of the Honolulu Marathon. Prior to racing, each athlete received three sheets of paper listing a few rules and a course description. Handwritten on the last page was this exhortation: "Swim 2.4 miles! Bike 112 miles! Run 26.2 miles! Brag for the rest of your life", now a registered trademark.
With a nod to a local runner who was notorious for his demanding workouts, Collins said, "Whoever finishes first, we'll call him the Iron Man." Each of the racers had their own support crew to supply libations, nutrition, and encouragement during their long journey. Of the fifteen men to start off the in early morning on February 18th, 1978, twelve completed the race. Gordon Haller was the first to earn the title Ironman by completing the course in a time of 11 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds.
This was 2 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 4 days, after 12/7/1998. That was my first day working at Microsoft with my official federal undercover identity to investigate the insurgents in control of Microsoft and King County, Washington.

The Hainan Island incident was the April 1, 2001 collision between a United States Navy EP-3E signals reconnaissance aircraft and a People's Liberation Army Navy J-8IIM fighter jet that resulted in an international incident between the United States and China.
The EP-3E had been flying over the Exclusive Economic Zone waters of China, about 70 miles (110 km) away from the Chinese island of Hainan, when the craft was intercepted by several J-8IIM fighters. What resulted was a collision between the wing of the EP-3E and one of the J-8s, which caused the death of the J-8's pilot, Wang Wei, while the EP-3E made an unauthorized emergency landing on Hainan.
In the air
At about 09:15 local time, toward the end of the EP-3's six hour mission, two Chinese J-8's approached the EP-3. One of them, Wang's fighter, collided with the spy plane after several unsuccessful intercepts. The J-8 was chopped in half, while the nosecone and a propeller of the EP-3 were severely damaged.
Wang ejected after the collision, but was reportedly never found and was declared dead. Meanwhile, the EP-3E entered Chinese airspace without authorization and made an emergency landing at the Chinese military airfield in Hainan.
Claims
The Americans claim that one of the Chinese jets bumped the wing of the larger, slower, and less maneuverable EP-3E, while the Chinese claim that it was the American plane that swerved into the flight path of the J-8. None of the information in the black boxes of either plane, both held by the Chinese government, was made public, so the matter is still disputed.
