§ 1962. Prohibited activities
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person who has received any income derived, directly or indirectly, from a pattern of racketeering activity or through collection of an unlawful debt in which such person has participated as a principal within the meaning of section 2, title 18, United States Code, to use or invest, directly or indirectly, any part of such income, or the proceeds of such income, in acquisition of any interest in, or the establishment or operation of, any enterprise which is engaged in, or the activities of which affect, interstate or foreign commerce.

§ 1963. Criminal penalties
Whoever violates any provision of section 1962 of this chapter shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years (or for life if the violation is based on a racketeering activity for which the maximum penalty includes life imprisonment), or both, and shall forfeit to the United States, irrespective of any provision of State law—
(1) any interest the person has acquired or maintained in violation of section 1962;
(2) any—
(A) interest in;
(B) security of;
(C) claim against; or
(D) property or contractual right of any kind affording a source of influence over;
any enterprise which the person has established, operated, controlled, conducted, or participated in the conduct of, in violation of section 1962; and
(3) any property constituting, or derived from, any proceeds which the person obtained, directly or indirectly, from racketeering activity or unlawful debt collection in violation of section 1962.

A pattern, from the French patron, is a type of theme of recurring events or objects, sometimes referred to as elements of a set of objects.
The elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable manner. Patterns can be based on a template or model which generates pattern elements, especially if the elements have enough in common for the underlying pattern to be inferred, in which case the things are said to exhibit the unique pattern. There are many different patterns in the world.
The most basic patterns, called Tessellations, are based on repetition and periodicity.
Pattern matching is the act of checking for the presence of the constituents of a pattern, whereas the detecting for underlying patterns is referred to as pattern recognition. The question of how a pattern emerges is accomplished through the work of the scientific field of pattern formation.
Pattern recognition is more complex when templates are used to generate variants. For example, in English, sentences often follow the "N-VP" (noun - verb phrase) pattern, but some knowledge of the English language is required to detect the pattern. Computer science, ethology, and psychology are fields which study patterns.

felony murder doctrine
a rule of criminal statutes that any death which occurs during the commission of a felony is first degree murder, and all participants in that felony or attempted felony can be charged with and found guilty of murder. A typical example is a robbery involving more than one criminal, in which one of them shoots, beats to death or runs over a store clerk, killing the clerk. Even if the death were accidental, all of the participants can be found guilty of felony murder, including those who did no harm, had no gun, and/or did not intend to hurt anyone.

The felony murder rule is a legal doctrine current in some common law countries that broadens the crime of murder in two ways. Delta Air Lines Flight 841 was an aircraft hijacking that took place beginning on Monday, July 31, 1972, on a flight originally from Detroit to Miami.
Hijacking
Members of the Black Liberation Army took over the airplane in flight using weapons smuggled on board, including a bible cut out to hold a handgun. The DC-8 held 7 crew and 94 passengers, none of whom were killed during the hijacking. Five hijackers who had boarded with three children took over the plane. The plane flew to Miami where the 86 hostage-held passengers (i.e. 94 minus 8) were released in exchange for $1 million in ransom.
Apprehension of hijackers
Four of the five hijackers were captured in Paris on May 26, 1976, and tried by the French courts. The remaining hijacker, George Wright, who had dressed as a priest during the hijacking, was caught on September 26, 2011, in Lisbon.

After being on the lam for 41 years, a murderer who escaped a New Jersey prison and later helped hijack a U.S. airliner while dressed as a priest has been captured in Portugal, the FBI announced today.
George Wright was arrested Monday at the request of the U.S. government, which is seeking his extradition so he can complete a 15-to-30-year sentence for the 1962 murder of a gas-station owner during one of several robberies. Wright had served seven years when he and three other inmates escaped from Bayside State Prison in Leesburg.

Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich Romanov, who would have been heir to the throne of the czars if imperial Russia still existed, died suddenly during a news conference in Miami yesterday. He was 74 years old.
The Grand Duke, a direct descendant of Czar Alexander II, who ruled from 1855 to 1881, was in Miami for a speech he was to give today before a forum of civic and business leaders. He was at a bank, being interviewed by Spanish-language reporters, when he fell unconscious.
Duke Vladimir, a resident of Paris and Brittany, France, was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman, Odalys Lloret, could not provide a cause of death. Related to Queen Victoria
The Grand Duke's father was Kirill Vladimirovich Romanov, cousin of the last Czar, Nicholas II. The Duke succeeded as head of the Romanov dynasty in 1938 when his father died. With the intermingling of blood lines among royal families in Europe in the 19th century, Duke Vladimir was also a descendant of Britain's Queen Victoria.

Despite the magnificence of her title, her life was overshadowed by arcane questions concerning the status of her marriage, her husband’s claims to the throne, and private feuds among latter day Romanovs.
During the war, Leonida, who had returned to Spain after her divorce, met Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich while he was visiting the southern resort town of Sanlucar de Barrameda.
Grand Duke Vladimir claimed to be Head of the Imperial House of Russia, but his position was complicated. He was the only son of Grand Duke Kirill, himself a controversial claimant.
When Kirill died, in France, Vladimir was quick to proclaim himself Head of the Imperial House, using the title Grand Duke but not failing to mention that many hailed him as Emperor. Towards the end of the Second World War he was deported from France to Germany and transferred to Austria. It was falsely rumoured that Hitler wished to place him as a puppet Emperor in Russia. Vladimir retreated to Madrid, his home for the rest of his life.
He married Leonida at a civil service in Lausanne on August 12 1948, with a religious ceremony the following day. Leonida insisted that as the descendant of a royal line, she was the equal of her new husband, a crucial factor if their children were to be entitled to lead the Imperial House of Russia.
Many other Romanovs did not accept this, however, denouncing her as of lesser status and thus the marriage as morganatic. Such a union of “unequals” would remove the couple’s children from claims to the succession.
After years in relative obscurity, Vladimir and Leonida were suddenly propelled into the public eye in the early 1990s, with the collapse of the Soviet Union. When Boris Yeltsin became Russian president, he and Vladimir exchanged letters and then Anatoly Sobchak, the Mayor, invited the imperial couple to celebrations when Leningrad was renamed St Petersburg in 1991. In November that year, Vladimir and Leonida stood on a balcony of the Hermitage (the former Winter Palace) and were hailed by a crowd of 60,000.
On April 21 1992 the Grand Duke addressed 1,500 business leaders in Miami. At a press conference following the talk he slumped over in his chair, dying soon afterwards.

The V-22 Osprey was the first aircraft designed from the ground up to meet the needs of all four U.S. Armed services. In partnership with Bell Helicopter Textron, Boeing Helicopters built the revolutionary new tiltrotor aircraft that takes off and lands vertically like a helicopter.
Once airborne, its blades can be rotated to convert the aircraft to a turboprop airplane capable of high-speed, high-altitude flight. Boeing was assigned responsibility for the fuselage, all subsystems, digital avionics and fly-by-wire flight-control systems.

The first V-22 built to production standards made its first flight in February 1997 and was delivered March 15, 1997, to the V-22 Integrated Test Team at the Patuxent River Naval Air Warfare Center in Maryland. Eleven were produced by the end of 2000.
After the crash of a V-22 on Dec. 11, 2000, the aircraft did not return to flight until May 29, 2002. Five were flying by the end of 2002. The first passenger to fly aboard a V-22 after it returned to flight was Lt. Gen. Michael W. Hagee, incoming commandant of the Marine Corps, who in January 2003 flew in the cockpit of MV-22 Osprey aircraft No. 21 at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Md. The flight lasted about 15 minutes.

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton cut short a news conference Monday with his new Supreme Court nominee after expressing exasperation with the first question, which was about his decision-making process.
The question -- unanswered -- was asked by ABC's Brit Hume after Clinton announced his selection of federal appellate Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Hume asked: "The withdrawal of the Guinier nomination, sir, and your apparent focus on Judge Breyer, and your turn, late it seems, to Judge Ginsburg, may have created an impression, perhaps unfair, of a certain zig-zag quality in the decision-making process here. I wonder, sir, if you could kind of walk us through it, perhaps disabuse us of any notion we might have along those lines."
Clinton's testy answer: "I have long since given up the thought that I could disabuse some of you turning any substantive decision into anything but political process. How you could ask a question like that after the statement she just made is beyond me."
There was applause from some members of the Rose Garden audience, which included members of Judge Ginsburg's family, some friends and members of Congress.
Clinton turned and walked away from the podium, refusing to take additional questions, even though many hands were raised.

On Feb. 13, as controversy swirled around President Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, the White House released more than 400 pages of documents on the press corps, proving, it claimed, that Bush had served honorably and fulfilled his commitment. The sudden rush of records, often redundant, jumbled and out of chronological order, generally left reporters baffled. From Bush’s point of view, the document dump was a political success, as the controversy cooled and the paper trail ran dry.
In retrospect, it’s doubtful that even White House aides understood all the information embedded in the records, specifically the payroll documents. It’s also unlikely they realized how damaging the information could be when read in the proper context. Seven months later, the document dump is coming back to haunt the White House

She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe.

Launch February 11, 1997 3:55:17 am. Window was 65 minutes. The exact window was announced a few hours before launch and adjusted at the T-9 minute mark based on the final computation of the location of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). In Firing Room 3, of the Launch Control Center (LCC), a final poll of the launch team and the Mission Management Team was conducted and the countdown clock picked up at the T-9 minute mark at 3:47am EST. The Orbiter Access Arm (OAA) was retracted at T-7 minute 21 seconds (3:50am EST) and a go was given for APU prestart at 3:50am EST. The APU's were started at the T-5 minute mark and the flight crew reported 3 good APU's. Discovery's aero surfaces were sequenced and the three Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME's) were moved into launch position. Launch occured exactly on schedule. Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB's) were seperated at 2 minutes 2 seconds with Discovery at an altitude 35nm and a distance of 40 miles from launch site.
