Creeps (1956)
The stooges are movers for an express company and on a rainy night are sent to move some junk, including a suit of armor, from a spooky old house. The armor is haunted by the ghost of Sir Tom, who has no intention of leaving. The ghost foils the stooges attempts to take the armor, and is about to skewer them with a sword when it's revealed that the stooges were only telling a bedtime story to their "sons" (also played by the stooges.)

Stanley Ford leads an idyllic bachelor life. He is a nationally syndicated cartoonist whose Bash Brannigan series provides him with a luxury townhouse and a full-time valet, Charles. When he wakes up the morning after the night before - he had attended a friend's stag party - he finds that he is married to the very beautiful woman who popped out of the cake - and who doesn't speak a work of English. Despite his initial protestations, he comes to like married life and even changes his cartoon character from a super spy to a somewhat harried husband. When after several months he decides to kill off Bash's wife in the cartoon, his wife misinterprets his intentions and disappears. Which leads the police to charge him with murder.

Director Robert S. Mueller, III named Timothy P. Murphy to be the FBI’s deputy director. Mr. Murphy has served as associate deputy director since January 2008, overseeing the FBI’s personnel, budget, administration, and infrastructure. He succeeds John S. Pistole, who left the FBI to serve as administrator of the Transportation Security Administration.
Director Mueller noted, “Tim has consistently shown exceptional leadership and met tough challenges head-on. I have every expectation that he will do the same as deputy director, and I look forward to working closely with him in his new position.”
Mr. Murphy entered on duty as a special agent in September 1988. Since joining the FBI, Mr. Murphy has been assigned to the Newark, Tampa, Washington, and Cincinnati Field Offices, in addition to four different positions at FBI Headquarters. While in the field, Mr. Murphy managed a variety of investigative matters, including counterterrorism and organized crime/drugs, and he served as a pilot in the aviation program and within the special operations, technical operations, undercover operations, and surveillance programs. He was an assistant special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office, special agent in charge of the Cincinnati Division, and a member of the Director’s Special Agent in Charge Advisory Committee.
At FBI Headquarters, Mr. Murphy served in several positions, including supervisory special agent in the Executive Development and Selection Program, unit chief of the Senior Executive Service Unit and Director’s Research Group, and special assistant to Director Mueller. Mr. Murphy provided counsel to the Director on a variety of policy, budget, and administrative matters.
Mr. Murphy then became the assistant director of the Finance Division at FBI Headquarters. In this role, he formulated and executed the FBI’s then $6.2 billion budget.
Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Murphy was a police officer in Michigan. He graduated from Ferris State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice.

Rancher Jim Kerrigan persuades the Overland Telegraph Company to allow his own men to extend the line through his property and guarantees to pay for the work himself if it is not finished on time. As land promoter Wheelock stands to lose a lot of money if the line goes through, he hires Larry Foster, who is engaged to Kerrigan's daughter Sandra, to sabotage the work. Later, Overland's boss, Carson, tells his trouble shooter, Johnny Mack Brown, that Kerrigan has been shot and that although Kerrigan's foreman, Cappy, is now running the operation, he fears that they may not finish on time. Johnny arrives in time to rescue Cappy and Kerrigan ranchhand Joe Farr from masked raiders, and also intervenes when Foster attempts to shoot Joe, who is interested in Sandra. Two line installers are then shot, and Johnny manages to catch one of the killers, Mugsy. Before they can get Mugsy to reveal who is behind the sabotage, he is shot by Foster during an arranged "escape." Two members of the gang have a shootout with Johnny and Cappy, and one of them, Straker, is jailed. Slim, another of Foster's men, steals Johnny's identification card and plants it on the scene when Foster and Wheelock's men break Straker out and kill a deputy. The marshal tries to arrest Johnny but Joe intervenes. To prove Johnny's innocence, he and Joe keep a lookout on Foster's ranch and discover that he is in cahoots with the gang. When Foster and the others try to set fire to the Kerrigan ranch, Johnny arrives in time to stop them and finds Foster's hat, which sports a hat band Sandra had given him. Sandra realizes that her fiancé is implicated in all the troubles. Foster then reports to Wheelock, who tells him to kill Johnny and Joe. While Johnny and the crew continue stringing the lines, Foster pulls a gun on Sandra and orders her to summon Johnny and Joe. Instead, Sandra warns them and struggles with Foster, who runs off and heads for Wheelock's office. Johnny and Joe tail him there, and during the ensuing shootout, Foster and Wheelock are killed. Back at the ranch, the last of the telegraph wire is strung in time to fulfill the contract, and Johnny sends the first message to his headquarters. Leaving Sandra and Joe together, Johnny moves on to his next assignment.

Logan and Greevey investigate the doctor who had made some adjustments to her chart, but are soon led to Dr. Edward Auster, a respected doctor who they feel may have been drunk on duty. The other residents are reluctant to say anything for fear their jobs may be in jeopardy, and Stone is faced with the awkward job of having to prosecute a man who appears to be a living saint.

The two teenagers were in an old minivan just before midnight, driving through their scrubby neighborhood on the outskirts of Tucson when they were pulled over by sheriff's deputies. The driver and his passenger, Jared Lee Loughner, both smelled strongly of pot. It was the eve of Loughner's 19th birthday. Deputies cited him for possessing drug paraphernalia, his first criminal charge as an adult.
Between that stop Sept. 9, 2007, and Jan. 8 of this year — the day he was arrested as a suspect in shootings that killed six and wounded 13, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, outside a Safeway store in Tucson — Loughner frequently acted and sounded like a young man in need of mental health intervention.
He'd been kicked out of school, was rejected by the Army and struggled to find work. He was fired from a volunteer job at an animal shelter. His Internet postings were hostile and incoherent, with certain themes repeated — a distrust of government and his college, the Constitution, illiteracy and "lucid dreaming." He alienated fellow players in an online game with disjointed, hostile posts, including one in which he called the physicist Stephen Hawking a "freaking retard" and equated rape with sex.
Interviews with friends, teachers and classmates, and reviews of school documents and law enforcement reports — plus Loughner's own writings and comments — depict a young man's downward spiral, slow at first, accelerating dramatically a year ago, and culminating with his arrest on suspicion of murder eight days ago.
Loughner, an only child, was born Sept. 10, 1988.

Chapter 1: The mission begins.
Staff Sgt. Matt Eversmann's lanky frame was fully extended on the rope for what seemed too long on the way down. Hanging from a hovering Black Hawk helicopter, Eversmann was a full 70 feet above the streets of Mogadishu. His goggles had broken, so his eyes chafed in the thick cloud of dust stirred up by the bird's rotors.
It was such a long descent that the thick nylon rope burned right through the palms of his leather gloves. The rest of his chalk, or squad, had already roped in. Nearing the street, through the swirling dust below his feet, Eversmann saw one of his men stretched out on his back at the bottom of the rope.
He felt a stab of despair. Somebody's been shot already! He gripped the rope hard to keep from landing on top of the guy. It was Pvt. Todd Blackburn, at 18 the youngest Ranger in his chalk, a kid just months out of a Florida high school. He was unconscious and bleeding from the nose and ears.
The raid was barely under way, and already something had gone wrong. It was just the first in a series of worsening mishaps that would endanger this daring mission. For Eversmann, a five-year veteran from Natural Bridge, Va., leading men into combat for the first time, it was the beginning of the longest day of his life.
Just 13 minutes before, three miles away at the Rangers' base on the Mogadishu beach, Eversmann had said a Hail Mary at liftoff. He was curled into a seat between two helicopter crew chiefs, the knees of his long legs up around his shoulders. Before him, arrayed on both sides of the sleek UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, was Eversmann's Chalk, a dozen men in tan, desert camouflage fatigues. He had worried about the responsibility. Twelve men. He had prayed silently during Mass at the mess hall that morning. Now he added one more plea:
. . . Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
It was midafternoon, Oct. 3, 1993. Eversmann's Chalk Four was part of a company of U.S. Rangers assisting a Delta Force commando squadron that was about to descend on a gathering of Habr Gidr clan leaders in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia. This ragtag clan, led by warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid, had challenged the United States of America.
Today's targets were two top Aidid lieutenants. Delta Force, the nation's elite commando unit, would storm the target house and capture them.

Croatia's nationalist-dominated assembly took another step Thursday toward breaking from Yugoslavia, authorizing the republic to disregard federal statutes and providing parliamentary immunity to a minister the army says is plotting a rebellion.
On Wednesday, the parliament of the prosperous western republic of Slovenia's voted 173-1 to seek the breakup of the shaky Yugoslav federation that is dominated by Communist Serbia.The Slovenia body adopted a constitutional amendment declaring the supremacy of its own law over federal law and putting the republic on a path that President Milan Kucan said will end Yugoslavia as a single country.
The Croatian assembly voted overwhelmingly for an amendment to the republic's constitution providing the government of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman the authority to determine and nullify federal statutes it judges can endanger the republic's "interests and sovereignty."
The amendment prohibits federal authorities from imposing emergency measures or ordering military intervention in the republic during peacetime without the consent of Croatia's assembly or president.
"By this bill, the federal legal order ceases to be superior to the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia," Vladimir Seks, an assembly vice president, told the legislature in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, 240 miles west of Belgrade.
The amendment took effect immediately.
Croatia and neighboring Slovenia, governed by nationalists who ousted communists last April in Yugoslavia's first free post-war elections, want to end the federal system, accusing Serbia's Marxists and their military allies of seeking political and economic control of the country.

Reporting from Washington and New York — In a high-stakes trade reminiscent of the Cold War, 10 men and women accused of spying for Russia abruptly pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in New York and were traded to the Russian government for four prisoners convicted there of espionage.
The 10 defendants, who were arrested late last month, pleaded to the relatively minor charges of failing to register as foreign agents and were sentenced to time served — the equivalent of about 12 days or less.
In a courtroom in Lower Manhattan, they were marched in wearing jail garb or street clothes, some in handcuffs.
They were seated in what normally serves as the jury box as U.S. District Judge Kimba M. Wood asked each to reveal his or her true identity and admit guilt.
"Uh, which name?" replied the first defendant, who had been living under the name Richard Murphy in a New Jersey suburb with his wife, who went by the name Cynthia Murphy.
Their real names, they said in court, are Vladimir Guryev and Lydia Guryev.
One by one, the other defendants gave their true names, birth dates and educational backgrounds, most of them speaking into a microphone passed from one to another as if they were guests on a television talk show.
Then, they each said, "Yes, your honor," when asked if they wanted to plead guilty to the charges.
Most appeared calm and relaxed, sometimes smiling and laughing lightly. One defendant, Anna Chapman, who after her arrest gained instant American celebrity as a Russian "femme fatale," played with her hair, braiding and rebraiding it.
Another defendant, Vicky Pelaez, a U.S. citizen who worked as a Spanish-language reporter in New York, was alone in breaking down into tears. In the courtroom, her eldest son sat with his head in his hands during much of the proceedings.
In the end, all 10 agreed never to return to United States and had to forfeit property and other assets in this country. An 11th defendant, Christopher Metsos, was arrested in Cyprus last month and freed on bail. He has since disappeared.
When the courtroom drama ended, the defendants were scheduled to be processed, taken by bus to a New York airport and placed by Russian officials aboard a plane bound for Moscow.
In return for the 10 secret agents, the Russian government agreed to release four individuals incarcerated there for "contact with Western intelligence agencies." Three of them were convicted of treason and, according to the U.S. officials, "all have served a number of years in prison and all are in poor health."
U.S. prosecutors announced that the Russian government had "agreed to release the Russian prisoners and their families for resettlement."
Russian officials did not identify the four prisoners set for release. However, U.S. authorities said in court papers in New York that "some of the Russian prisoners worked for the Russian military, and/or for various Russian intelligence agencies."
One of the Russian prisoners is believed to be Igor V. Sutyagin, a former scientist arrested in 1999. He spent five years in pretrial detention, and in 2004 was convicted of passing classified data on Russian submarines and missile systems.
Two others believed to be slated for release were Sergei Skripal, a former colonel in Russia's military intelligence, who was given 13 years in 2006 for spying for England, and Alexander Zaporozhsky, another former Russian intelligence officer serving 18 years after a 2003 espionage arrest.
The four were transferred this week to a prison in Moscow, where they were offered the opportunity to leave Russia with their families. They also had to sign statements admitting their guilt.
A State Department official said negotiations for the trade with Russia began "very early on after the individuals were arrested in this country. The Russian government did move very quickly."
Top Department of Justice and FBI officials insisted that the swap would not deter the U.S. from continuing to ferret out other would-be spies.
"This was an extraordinary case, developed through years of work by investigators, intelligence lawyers and prosecutors, and the agreement we reached today provides a successful resolution for the United States and its interests," said Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr.
FBI Director Robert S. Mueller added that "counterintelligence is a top FBI investigative priority" and said that his agents would work "tirelessly behind the scenes to counter the efforts of those who would steal our nation's vital secrets."
Charles Pinck, a partner in the Georgetown Group, a private investigative firm in Washington and president of the OSS [Office of Special Services] Society of McLean, Va., which celebrates the historical accomplishments of spying during World War II, said Russia may have ended up with the better deal.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree pardoning four Russian citizens serving in prisons for espionage, presidential spokeswoman Natalia Timakova said.

WASHINGTON—Ten individuals pleaded guilty today in Manhattan federal court to conspiring to serve as unlawful agents of the Russian Federation within the United States and will be immediately expelled from the United States, the Justice Department announced today.
In hearings today before Judge Kimba M. Wood in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, each of the 10 defendants arrested on June 27, 2010, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government within the United States without notifying the U.S. Attorney General. Under their plea agreements, the defendants were required to disclose their true identities in court today and to forfeit certain assets attributable to the criminal offenses.
The defendants known as “Richard Murphy” and “Cynthia Murphy” admitted they are Russian citizens named Vladimir Guryev and Lydia Guryev and are agents of the Russian Federation. Defendants “Michael Zottoli” and “Patrica Mills” admitted they are Russian citizens named Mikhail Kutsik and Natalia Pereverzeva, and are agents of the Russian Federation. Defendants “Donald Howard Heathfield” and “Tracey Lee Ann Foley” admitted they are Russian citizens named Andrey Bezrukov and Elena Vavilova, and are agents of the Russian Federation. “Juan Lazaro” admitted that he is a Russian citizen named Mikhail Anatonoljevich Vasenkov and is an agent of the Russian Federation.
The defendants Vicky Pelaez, Anna Chapman and Mikhail Semenko, who operated in this country under their true names, admitted that they are agents of the Russian Federation; and Chapman and Semenko admitted they are Russian citizens.
The United States has agreed to transfer these individuals to the custody of the Russian Federation. In exchange, the Russian Federation has agreed to release four individuals who are incarcerated in Russia for alleged contact with Western intelligence agencies.
“This was an extraordinary case, developed through years of work by investigators, intelligence lawyers, and prosecutors, and the agreement we reached today provides a successful resolution for the United States and its interests,” Attorney General Eric Holder said.
“Counterintelligence is a top FBI investigative priority, and this case in particular represents the dedicated efforts of the men and women who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to counter the efforts of those who would steal our nation's vital secrets,” said FBI Director Robert S. Mueller.
This case is the result of a multi-year investigation conducted by the FBI and other elements of the U.S. intelligence community; the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York; and the Counterespionage Section and the Office of Intelligence within the Justice Department’s National Security Division.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Farbiarz, Glen Kopp, and Jason Smith of the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and Trial Attorneys Kathleen Kedian and Richard Scott of the Counterespionage Section of the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

but I think what this all represents is me flying into Iraq, running out of fuel because I engaged enemy fighters, and then having to land and find fuel. I also found myself reading that book by Claire and having a hard time to believe we didn't get swarmed by enemy fighters.

A series of scenes in the dream just now about football. The notion of Princeton University was strongly present in those series of scenes where I seemed to be on a football team but I think something is askew to all that, in that my soccer team is mixed in to those scenes and I was confusing it with my actual participation on an American football team at U.S. Naval Academy. I did see a scene about a football kicker during an American football game. There was a lot of detail I can still visualize but I do not feel all that compelled to describe the scenes. In the next series of scenes though, I seemed to be walking through an open field and there is a paved road running off to my left and there is open field as far as I can see to the other side of it and I guess to my right side although most of the dream seems to visualize over to what was initially my left-side of visualization. Just after that visualization started, and I note that it seems to be chronologically after the series of football scenes, I saw the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse in that field on the other side of the paved road and to my minor annoyance, they started charging in my direction and I can visualize that lead Horsemen, but I am left with the vague sense that the Four of them were actually cows that had turned to charge at me. I did some fancy maneuvering and got them going in circles because I could maneuver better than they could but at some point I realized that I was not going to be able to keep that tactic up for very long. As I visualize that scene again now that I am awake, they seemed to have surrounded me. In the next scene though I seemed to have broke away from the Four Bovine of The Apocalypse and I was running flat out across the field at a 45 degree angle ahead of my original line-of-sight and direction of travel and I am vaguely aware of something ahead of me but I cannot visualize it well enough or remember it well enough to describe. I can remember that I turned around as I was running and threw something back at the lead Cow of The Apocalypse and I struck it squarely on the head and it dropped dead right there on the spot. At that point, I seemed to look back at a bale of hay in the middle of the field, which was the only one in sight, and I thought to myself that I should have stayed near that bale of hay because it was a piece of that bale that I killed the lead Cow of The Apocalypse. But I was still running in that same direction and I cannot really visualize the other Cows of The Apocalypse althought I guess they were back there somewhere in the dust the first Cow kicked up in a field that did not seem that dusty. The detail become very vague at the point where the dreams ends and I vaguely aware of something about how I could get help in fighting off those other three Cows of The Apocalypse if I said I "believed" and so I did say I believed and then I saw something that I can only describe now vaguely and one of those wagonwheeled-transports, that I think had names such as Conestoga, come traveling by me out in the direction of the other Cows and the wagon seemed to be covered in fire. I think I had stopped running at that point and there are other details about the surroundings that I can still visualize but not well enough to describe and I am left to ponder where I was. As I was writing all this, I remembered there was another series of scenes before the series of scenes about American football and I am left only with the sense of being compelled to remember those scenes and while I can visualize certain details, such as being in a supermarket, I cannot remember enough detail to articulate. I am not certain if those first scenes are connected to the next scenes about the football.

RADAR RAVEN MAY GET CREDIT FOR 1ST AIR KILL OF THE GULF WAR

The electronics-jamming EF-111A Raven is not a combat plane. But a Raven that lured an Iraqi fighter into a death trap may be credited with the first air kill of the war.
The U.S. Air Force is investigating whether the two-man crew of the EF-111A will go down in history for destroying an Iraqi F-1 Mirage minutes after the war began on Jan. 17.Capt. Brent D. Brandon, 30, of Houston, the plane's electronic warfare officer, said the Iraqi fighter rolled in a mile or so behind the EF-111A near an airfield in western Iraq and fired a missile directly at its clear canopy.
"I actually saw the missile snaking," Brandon said Thursday.
The American jet immediately dove to within a few hundred feet of the ground and released chaff and decoy flares to try to divert the heat-seeking missile from its engines.
At the same time, the pilot, Capt. Jim Denton, accelerated toward the speed of sound and made a hard right banking turn, Brandon said.
The Iraqi fighter couldn't match the maneuver.
"And that's when we see the fireball behind us ... as the guy hit the ground," Brandon said.
Those early morning hours of Jan. 17 are etched in Brandon's memory.
