Home of the Brave

Here's a topic I originally start working on several hours ago (Do you know why I am clarifying now here in public that detail about the timeframe?) and this would have been the post I made earlier today but I started work on another one and instead that was the one about March 2000.

See what happens when I leave the office, little Hugo?

No real kind of formatted message here, at least not the kind of protocol I normally follow. I just wanted to post something as I continue to work on this topic that I may or may not publish later.

Remarks on the Report on Commerce in Firearms and an Exchange With Reporters

February 4, 2000

The President. Good morning. Before I leave to go up to the Hill, I'd like to say a few words about an important new report I've just received on how guns flow from the legal firearms market to criminals and to talk about the unprecedented new actions that we're taking to block that flow.

Keeping guns out of the wrong hands has been a priority for 7 years for us, and we have made some real progress with the Brady law, with the ban on assault weapons, cracking down on illegal gun dealing to young people, with increased Federal prosecutions of gun crimes, and beginning with the directive I issued in 1993

White House turns up heat on gun dealers

WASHINGTON - Stepping up pressure on the gun industry, President Clinton today gave federal agents new powers to crack down on dealers and pawnbrokers who sell a disproportionate number of the weapons used in crimes.

Clinton released a report showing that 1 percent of gun dealers account for 57 percent of guns that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) can trace from use in a crime back to the point the gun was sold.

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - A teenager was being held for psychological examination after police said he made detailed plans to pull a Columbine-style attack on his high school and tried to recruit other students to help.
