Remarks at the Republican Congressional ``Salute to President Ronald Reagan Dinner''
May 4, 1982

You know, when our friend, Pearl [Bailey] was singing the National Anthem tonight -- I don't know or have heard all the national anthems of the world, but I do know this: The only anthem of those I do know that ends with a question is ours, and may it be ever thus. Does that banner still wave ``o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?'' Yes, it does, and we're going to see that it continues to wave over that kind of a country.

Interesting. That girl I met at Camp Couchdale was named Phoebe Bailey. There is also this memory of when I was a kid, elementary school, I had one of those boxes we kept our pencils and crayons in. On the lid of the box was printed that anthem and at the end of it, the "home of the brave?" part, I wrote next to it: "Yes."

Memorable quotes for

"The Six Million Dollar Man" (1974)

Oscar Goldman: Steve Austin, astronaut. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Morning in America

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Morning in America" is the common name of a political campaign television commercial, formally titled "Prouder, Stronger, Better" and featuring the opening line "It's morning again in America." The ad was part of the 1984 U.S. presidential campaign of Republican Party candidate Ronald Reagan.

Details

Full text of the ad:

"It's morning again in America. Today more men and women will go to work than ever before in our country's history. With interest rates at about half the record highs of 1980, nearly 2,000 families today will buy new homes, more than at any time in the past four years. This afternoon 6,500 young men and women will be married, and with inflation at less than half of what it was just four years ago, they can look forward with confidence to the future. It's morning again in America, and under the leadership of President Reagan, our country is prouder and stronger and better. Why would we ever want to return to where we were less than four short years ago?"

Steve Austin: Jean? I was in the desert today. I didn't want to die. I wanted to make it back.

Oliver Spencer: Well, congratulations, Steve.

Steve Austin: Fooled you.

Oliver Spencer: Did you?

Steve Austin: Uh-huh. I made it back.

Oliver Spencer: Well, I was always hoping you would.

Steve Austin: Bend down here a minute, Spencer, I want to tell you something.

Oliver Spencer: Yes?

Steve Austin: [ whispers ]

Oliver Spencer: Really? Well, I haven't been called that since grammar school.

Dr. Rudy Wells: Steve, we're going to put you back into electro-sleep to get you through the pain. You'll be healing while you sleep, okay?

Steve Austin: You're the doctor.

Oliver Spencer: Dr. Wells? Is it possible to keep him asleep indefinitely?

Dr. Rudy Wells: Now what are you going to do? Keep him under between assignments and wake him up only when you need him? Over my dead body.

Oliver Spencer: It was just an idea. Not a bad one at that, eh?
