How did woman's body come to be in L.A. hotel water tank?

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Two days after the grisly discovery, the case of the Los Angeles hotel water tank corpse is a mystery with many unanswered questions.

The decomposing body of Elisa Lam floated inside a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel while guests brushed their teeth, bathed and drank with water from it for as long as 19 days.

A maintenance worker, checking on complaints about the hotel's water, found the 21-year-old Canadian tourist inside one of four water cisterns Tuesday morning, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Rudy Lopez said.

How and where did Elisa Lam die?

Los Angeles robbery-homicide detectives are treating this as a suspicious death for obvious reasons, Lopez said. Falling into a covered water tank behind a locked door on top of a roof would be an unusual accident.

An autopsy was completed, but the cause of death is deferred pending further examination, assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said Thursday. That may take six to eight weeks.

It will be several weeks before investigators have the toxicology lab report which would show whether Lam had any drugs in her system.

Any marks, injuries or wounds may suggest Lam died elsewhere and was dumped into the tank by her killer.

Water in Lam's lungs could be a sign that she drowned, but it might not tell why she was inside the small tank.

One clue comes from security camera video of Lam inside a hotel elevator the last day she was seen.

She is seen walking into the elevator, pushing the buttons for four floors and then peering out of the opened elevator door as if she is hiding or looking for someone. Clad in a red hoodie, Lam at one point walks out of the elevator before returning to it, pushing the buttons again. She then stands outside the open elevator doorway, motioning with her hands, before apparently walking away.

Lam checked into the Cecil Hotel five days earlier, January 26, on her way to Santa Cruz, California, according to police in her hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Why did it it take so long to find Lam?

Lam's parents reported the University of British Columbia student missing in early February. Her daily calls home stopped on January 31, police told reporters on February 6 at a Los Angeles news conference.

Because it was an international case -- and her parents and sister flew to California to find answers -- the case may have gotten more attention than most of the several thousand missing person reports made in Los Angeles each year.

A search of the hotel then found no sign of Lam, including a trip to the roof with a police search dog, Lopez said.

Strange things began happening with the hotel's water supply later in the month, according to Sabina and Michael Baugh, a British couple who spent eight days there until checking out Wednesday. The water pressure dropped to a trickle at times.

"The shower was awful," Sabina Baugh said. "When you turned the tap on, the water was coming black first for two seconds and then it was going back to normal."

The tap water "tasted horrible," Baugh said. "It had a very funny, sweety, disgusting taste. It's a very strange taste. I can barely describe it."

But for a week, they never complained. "We never thought anything of it," she said. "We thought it was just the way it was here."

Knowing now what they didn't know then about the water is sickening, Michael Baugh said. "It makes you feel literally physically sick, but more than that you feel it psychologically. You think about it and it's not good."

Eventually, the hotel maintenance department investigated the water problem, sending a worker to look into the tank, police said. He saw Lam's lifeless body at the bottom.

The 2013 Solomon Islands earthquake was a seismic event registering Mw 8.0 that struck northeast of Australia on 6 February 2013. Its epicenter was the Solomon Islands, at the boundaries of the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates, causing local evacuations and a tsunami of 1.5 m (4.9 ft) and killing at least thirteen people.


Seismologic details

On 6 February 2013, at 12:12 local time (01:12 UTC) an earthquake struck the Solomon Islands, located in the south Pacific Ocean. It struck at a depth of 28.7 km (17.8 mi); the epicenter was 76 kilometres (47 mi) west of Lata on Nendo Island. The earthquake occurred due to the interaction between the Australian Plate and the Pacific Plate, and was preceded by dozens of foreshocks in the region. The magnitude of this earthquake was put at 8.0 on the Moment magnitude scale. At least 20 aftershocks were reported, including one measuring 7.1 on 8 February and two measuring M7.0.

Tsunami

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and several other islands in the region; the agency also issued a tsunami watch for Australia, New Zealand and eastern Indonesia. The earthquake produced a tsunami measuring 1 metre (3 ft 3 in) at Lata, Solomon Islands, that reached about 500 m (1,600 ft) inland. Smaller tsunamis of 11 cm (4.3 in) and 50 cm (20 in) were reported in Vanuatu and New Caledonia, respectively.

Damage

In Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, residents evacuated to higher ground, causing traffic jams. Local news agencies reported that four villages were destroyed. Houses were flooded in eastern Temotu Province. On Santa Cruz Island, 1.5 m (4.9 ft) waves damaged 50 buildings. In Lata, the tsunami damaged the airport and flooded low-lying areas, killing nine people, five of them elderly and one a child. More than 100 houses on the island were damaged, and the water and electricity services were interrupted. It was reported that almost all houses in Nela village were washed away, and some homes in Venga village were shifted by water. Officials in Noumea ordered residents to evacuate along the eastern coast of New Caledonia and nearby Loyalty Islands. Residents also evacuated to higher ground in Suva, the capital of Fiji. The earthquake killed 13 people, and 5 people remain listed as missing.

Gearing had spent his life knowing these things, and he supposed that it had desensitized him to the taking of life in large quantities.

This wasn't quite the same thing. He would not be spreading organophosphate chemical poisons, but rather tiny virus particles. And the people walking through the cooling fog in the concourses and ramps to the stadium bowl would breathe them in, and their body chemistry would break down the nano-capsules, allowing the Shiva strands to go to work… slowly, of course… and they'd go home to spread the Shiva farther, and in four to six weeks after the ending of the Sydney Olympics, the plague would erupt worldwide, and a global panic would ensue. Then Horizon Corporation would announce that it had an experimental "A" vaccine that had worked in animals and primates-and was safe for human usage-ready for mass production, and so it would be mass-produced and distributed worldwide, and four to six weeks after injection, those people, too, would develop the Shiva symptoms, and with luck the world would be depopulated down to a fractional percentage of the current population. Disorders would break out, killing many of the people blessed by Nature with highly effective immune systems, and in six months or so, there would be just a few left, well organized and well equipped, safe in Kansas and Brazil, and in six months more they would be the inheritors of a world returning to its natural state. This wouldn't be like Dugway, a purposeless accident. This would be a considered act by a man who'd contemplated mass murder for all of his professional life, but who'd only helped kill innocent animals… He turned to look at his hosts.

Elisa Lam death: Water from LA hotel cistern 'safe'

Investigators are seeking the cause of death of a Canadian woman found dead in a Los Angeles hotel cistern.

Meanwhile, water sampled from the tank has been found to be safe to drink and bathe in, health officials have said.

Elisa Lam, 21, of Vancouver was found dead in the tank by a maintenance worker on Tuesday, after guests complained of low water pressure.

Guests at the Cecil Hotel said they had bathed and drunk water from the tank while she remained in it.

Officials said an autopsy on Thursday did not provide a definite cause of death, and the medical examiner's office was awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

On Thursday afternoon, tests showed the water to be safe from a "microbiological standpoint", Angelo Bellomo, Los Angeles county's director of environmental health, told the Associated Press.

Two British tourists at the hotel, Michael Baugh and his wife, said they were shocked to discover why the water had only been trickling through the taps and shower.

"The moment we found out, we felt a bit sick to the stomach, quite literally," said Mr Baugh.

Police Sgt Rudy Lopez said Lam's death was suspicious and a coroner's investigation would determine the cause.

Hotel surveillance footage before she died showed her pushing buttons in the lift, leaning through the doors and looking both ways.

Lam was travelling alone from Vancouver, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. She arrived on 26 January and hotel workers last remember seeing her five days later.

Authorities reportedly had to cut through the water tank to retrieve the body, because of the narrow opening at the top.

Gordon Whitehead, who delivered multiple blows to Houdini's abdomen (with permission) while he was in Montreal. These repetitive blows are thought to have been a stunt in which Houdini displayed his dexterity.

The eyewitnesses were students named Jacques Price and Sam Smilovitz (sometimes called Jack Price and Sam Smiley). Their accounts generally agreed. The following is Price's description of events:

Houdini was reclining on his couch after his performance, having an art student sketch him. When Whitehead came in and asked if it was true that Houdini could take any blow to the stomach, Houdini replied groggily in the affirmative. In this instance, he was hit three times before Houdini could tighten up his stomach muscles to avoid serious injury. Whitehead reportedly continued hitting Houdini several more times and Houdini acted as though he were in some pain.

Houdini stated that if he had time to prepare himself properly he would have been in a better position to take the blows.

Houdini had apparently been suffering from appendicitis for several days prior and yet refused medical treatment. His appendix would most likely have burst on its own without the trauma. Although in serious pain, Houdini nonetheless continued to travel without seeking medical attention.

The body of a missing Canadian woman has been discovered in a cistern that was being used to provide drinking water to guests in a Los Angeles hotel.

The remains of Elisa Lam, 21, were found by a maintenance worker at the 600-room, $65-a-night Cecil Hotel after guests complained about low water pressure. Detectives were working to determine if her death was the result of foul play or an accident.

British tourist Michael Baugh, 27, and his wife, who had complained about the poor water flow after days of showering, brushing their teeth and drinking some of the tap water, were shocked at the discovery. "We feel a bit sick to the stomach, quite literally, especially having drank the water. We're not well mentally," he said.

Los Angeles' county department of public health officials issued a do-not-drink order on Tuesday while its laboratory tested the water. The disclosure contradicts a previous police statement that the water had been deemed safe.

Terrance Powell, a director co-ordinating the department's response, said the water was also used for cooking in the historical hotel near Skid Row, adding that a coffee shop in the hotel would remain closed and has been instructed to sanitise its food equipment before reopening.

"Our biggest concern is going to be faecal contamination because of the body in the water," he said. The likelihood of contamination is "minimal" given the large amount of water the body was found in, but the department is exercising caution.

Powell said the hotel had hired a water treatment specialist to disinfect its plumbing lines.

A Los Angeles police department sergeant, Rudy Lopez, said Lam's death was being treated as suspicious and a coroner would be conducting a postmortem examination.

Lam, from Vancouver, British Columbia, travelled alone to Los Angeles on 26 January and was last seen five days later by workers at the hotel. Officials said she had been in touch with her family daily until her disappearance.

The hotel has four cisterns on its roof – each about 10 ft (3 metres) high and 4.5 ft wide. Each one holds at least 1,000 gallons (3,785 litres) of water pumped up from city pipes. Lam's body was found on Tuesday at the bottom of a cistern that was about three-quarters full of water, Lopez said.

All right, so bear with me now. That work of fiction could explain a few things. That is a new source of information for me. I only saw it for the first time in recent days. As I wrote I did see an advertisement for it on television apparently when it was in the theatres but I didn't go to see it because it looked stupid.

As for the underlying details in that production there is the fact of what I write about as the notion that I will time-travel to the past. On a day in the future relative to this present moment (could happen later this very day) I will time-travel backwards in time to a day that is in the past relative to this present day. The day I arrive on as a time-traveler (which has not happened to me yet that I know of) is 03 March 2003.

Details were closely guarded so that Microsoft Corbis Bill Gates al Qaida and their al Qaida stooges would not attack us with violence at the moment of my arrival. Make no mistake about it: those Microsoft Corbis Bill Gates al Qaida are sociopaths that serve 0% use to this world. Their intent is only to cause mass destruction and mayhem.

As for other underlying details in that production you can see they are crafting messages among themselves in order to alter the future.

As with that broken water tank, that I referred to after seeing it in the production, which reminded me of an earlier dream, I did not associate that scene with the dream until I saw the wooden structure break open. Just as it hits the ground and you expect water to gush out I caught a glimpse of the white plastic tank that was inside the wooden structure and that is apparently why water did not gush out, if there had been any water in it. I saw that happening many miles above the surface of the planet and I thought later it was a dream while sleeping that was an actual memory of me monitoring the main fuel tank of the launching space shuttle as the tank broke away from the orbiter vehicle spacecraft and that could be true.

Also a new notion in the past couple days after watching that film is that could explain why I feel compelled to stay here. If you watch that film then that would make sense considering the fact I believe it is based on information I transmit to the past as a time-traveler.

The notion is that something big is going to happen here locally. If I stay here then whatever kind of mass destruction and mayhem that Microsoft Corbis Bill Gates al Qaida is planning next and for this metropolitan area will happen to me personally. If it is going to affect me personally, as the plot of that film works out, then I will become aware of their plans of mass destruction and mayhem.

You see, that "Ferris" character is supposed to be my sister-in-law Phoebe. She's not FBI though. She's a much more dangerous member of the United States federal government.

I'll post some details before 5 PM Pacific Time about the dreams I had while sleeping last night. The details really aren't that important. The details are not supposed to match perfectly. It's designed so you watch it and you have to think about it. The point is not to spoon-feed you into believing what is the truth.

I predict that the first "NCIS" episode will broadcast at 8 PM Eastern Time USA and that is 5 PM Seattle Time. When I watch that episode at 8 PM Pacific Time then that will be 11 PM Eastern Time and 8 PM Pacific will be 10 PM Central time, in Texarkana, and I am not certain when those two episodes broadcast in Central Time. 9 PM and 10 PM? I'm not sure. Sometime later today, and before 5 PM Pacific Time I am going to try to watch last week’s episodes of "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" on the internet from the CBS website.

As you recall from what I wrote earlier, back in late October 2012, there was some weird observation I made while watching an "NCIS" episode that made me suddenly think to look up contact information for Lesa Jewell. I had no idea anything had happened to her until that point. Then a few minutes later, to my surprise, the episode reveals that "Lisa" is the episode's bad guy and then she gets shot and killed by gunfire.

If there is any consolation to all this, I was thinking while watching that episode, an atomic bomb is very easy to detect with the proper equipment. You just simply cannot hide all that enriched uranium.

I was completely unaware of that specific date. I had made a reference so many times to that note that I started to ignore the date. I was only aware of how it associated with other details, such as the London premiere of “28 Weeks Later.” If asked I would have had to think for a while to recall the precise date. And then only after a while, possibly, would I have thought to review the detail about the date I wrote about Phoebe Cates.

Maybe I should start watching again the television news. I stopped a long time ago because they were aggravating me beyond tolerance just to sit here and watch the live television broadcasts.

I also wonder just what the hell is going on right now. I just cannot shake the feeling that today is some kind of important day, as though there is reason for concern.

As I wrote earlier, these private communications should weigh heavier on those perverts in the FBI. Those perverts give more weight to private communications because as those FBI perverts sit around with furrowed brows saying "What about this" and "What about that" their pervert minds register differently on private communications because those perverts feel they are getting away with something when they do it in private.

Perverts only hire other perverts.

And then no one else could compare with my feelings for her. Phoebe, I think, I feel, was my great love. And I have been lonely ever since.

All right, well, after finishing about 3:45 PM Pacific watching for the first time the episode's from last week’s "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles" I can honestly say I'm doing something right.

The dreams from this morning have largely faded from my mind but I do recall the details I wanted to note in my journal but that I have not until this moment and now I write what I thought about writing after waking up this morning on this new episode "NCIS Tuesday."

There it was right in front of me: 8/7c.

That means 5 PM Pacific time is when the new episodes will be first broadcast inside the United States. I won't actually start watching them until 11 PM Eastern time which is my 8 PM Pacific Time here in the King County and Seattle metro area. On a side note, I noted a couple days ago when I watched part of that premiere episode for the 2010 "The Walking Dead" television series the setting is listed as "King County." That means the starring character is a deputy sheriff for "King County." As I wrote I looked it and there is no King County in Georgia. That was also not a detail associated with the comic book that series is based on.

I have wondered before about why those criminal targets continue to follow their pattern. Seems to me they would wise up after a while.

That is why I'm waiting until 5 PM to transmit across the wire these details.

I don't have any way of comparing with what is broadcast at 8 PM Eastern with what I observe at 8 PM Pacific though.

As for the dreams I had while sleeping this morning the details aren't really that earth-shaking.

The reason I am making this statement is because of extended nature of one of the very detailed dream I had while sleeping this morning.

The one I awoke from the final time and got of bed after is consistent with what I read on the internet at the news sites I track.

In the news some police officers in Florida, the county Miami is in I think it was, were fired because they were caught on video and they were not doing their jobs as they were supposed to. That was consistent with thre dream because I saw myself in a group of people and another walked up and needed someone to take on a duty shift somewhere and no one wanted to do it and I spoke that I had just finished my shift. I have thought all day though that I am not articulating it correctly but I cannot think of anything else.

The dream that got me started on this initiative is the very extended dream where I saw from my perspective that I was walking in an urban and I had the vague certainty I was downtown but that doesn't make sense because when I found the building I was looking for I had clearly entered the offices of the law firm of Chad Trammell. Chad came in soon after, introduced me to his lovely wife, and the rest of that very extended dream was of me either standing around or towards the end sitting at a conference table. There were quite a few other people in that office building but I don't now recall any other conservation and I'm not sure if I ever did during the dream, almost as though I was watching television with sound off. I also cannot visualize details about those other people.

Because I wonder often that my dreams might be the products of paranormal insight I wonder if I am getting something wrong about the context. That would be why I saw myself in Seattle, although that wasn't clear. My guess is that some scumbag severe racketeering and al Qaida protecting law firm based here in Seattle continues to conspire unlawful activity against me and that might have started to conspire unlawful activities against The Trammell law firm and that is why I have become aware of them and thus they are guilty as proclaimed by United States military tribunal and they are guilty of treason against the United States of America during time of war and for which severe penalties are lawful.

The dream I woke from had me walking on a beach somewhere. That's what make me think again about that article I read about the police officers being fired in Florida. I saw myself talking to a small boy who was with her mother as just as with that actor Andre Braugher he had on dark sunglasses and I was wearing similar dark sunglasses and I was talking to him about our sunglasses as you might talk to a child that small. Then his mother told me to stop pestering her son. Then I was walking along the same beach after walking away from them and I was walking towards a destination along with one of those people from that group with the scene about the duty shifts or whatever it was. We seemed to be walking towards that place of work. I saw a large hotel up ahead. Then that guy started walking out into the water into the ocean. The water was only about an inch deep it seemed. I asked him how was the water. Then I was in the hotel or so it seemed. I was in an elevator and I pushed the 6 button or the 50 button. A person entered and I thought it was the actor Micheal Douglas but it could have been his daughter I thought. She was muscular though and I wondered if that was his son. Then the elevator seemed to stop. The lights on the buttons went out and I wasn't sure if it was still moving and I didn't want to be stuck in that small elevator. When I walked in cables were on the floor and I used my foot to move them out of the way. I was reading the writing on exposed cables on the walls. That's when I woke up and got out of my bed and set down at my desk.

I am trying to prove that my dreams are prescient.

I published this email address in my blog a few times but I took some of them out. Last time I checked there was still at least one blog posting that has this email address in it. Melissa was out here to visit me in Seattle a few years ago and I was talking with her about how that is my blog. She and I exchanged some emails about her visit here that time.
