Sea Wolf

I must now be starting about ten of these for every one I publish then leaving the others in my archive to go back to some later day. Some other ones I really want to publish today are George W. Bush: Letter to President Hu Jintao on China's First Human Space Mission, George W. Bush 9/18/2001 Authorization of military force, Bruce Ivans found unconscious, "In Plain Sight", my report on Stardust, Gerardus 't Hooft the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physics recipient. Those are some really good ones. And so many others. I just keep finding new stuff every day that proves why I went to the police the first time in the year 2005.

FEMALE AIRMAN
Aren't you guys afraid of an officer coming down here or something?

AIRMAN 2
Trust me, nobody ever comes down here but us.

FEMALE AIRMAN
(looking to the slightly billowing Stargate cover)
Does that thing always do that?

AIRMAN 1
Do what?

FEMALE AIRMAN
Whatever it is under the tarp, I just…saw it move or do something.

AIRMAN 2
Probably the only thing it ever did was cost money.

Seawolf-class submarine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Seawolf-class is a class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines (SSN) in service with the United States Navy. The class was the intended successor to the Los Angeles class. Design work began in 1983. At one time, an intended fleet of 29 submarines was to be built over a ten-year period, later reduced to twelve submarines. The end of the Cold War and budget constraints led to the cancellation in 1995 of any further additions to the fleet, leaving the Seawolf class limited to just three boats. This, in turn, led to the design of the smaller Virginia class.

The Seawolf design was intended to combat the threat of large numbers of advanced Soviet ballistic missile submarines such as the Typhoon class and attack submarines such as the Akula class in a deep ocean environment. Seawolf class hulls are constructed from HY-100 steel, which is stronger than the HY-80 steel employed in previous classes, in order to withstand water pressure at greater depths.

Compared to previous Los Angeles class submarines, Seawolf submarines are larger, faster, and significantly quieter; they also carry more weapons and have twice as many torpedo tubes, for a total of 8. The boats are able to carry up to 50 UGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles for attacking land and sea surface targets. As in all nuclear submarines, the load out of equipment, weapons and crew affects available excess buoyancy and thus operational parameters. The boats also have extensive equipment to allow for littoral, or shallow water, operations. The class uses the more advanced ARCI Modified AN/BSY-2 combat system, which includes a new, larger spherical sonar array, a wide aperture array (WAA), and a new towed-array sonar. Each boat is powered by a single S6W nuclear reactor, delivering 45,000 hp to a low-noise pump-jet.

As a result of their advanced design, however, Seawolf submarines were much more expensive. The projected cost for twelve submarines of this class was $33.6 billion, but after the Cold War, construction was stopped at three boats.

SSN-21 Seawolf-class

Overview

Seawolf-class submarines were designed to operate autonomously against the world's most capable submarine and surface threats. The primary mission of the Seawolf was to destroy Soviet ballistic missile submariness before they could attack American targets. The Soviet submarines are one of the most survivable elements of their intercontinental ballistic missile arsenal. In addition to their capabilities in countering enemy submarines and surface shipping, Seawolf submarines are suited for battlespace-preparation roles. Incorporation of sophisticated electronics produces enhanced indications and warning, surveillance, and communications capabilities. These platforms are capable of integrating into a battle group's infrastructure, or shifting rapidly into a land-battle support role.

The Seawolf features a strengthened sail, designed to permit operations under the polar ice cap for taking the fight to the Soviets in their own front yard. It sports an eight-tube, double-deck torpedo room to simultaneously engage multiple threats. It incorporates the latest in quieting technology to keep pace with the threat then posed by an aggressive Soviet Union.

The Seawolf has the highest tactical speed of any US submarine. Much much of the design effort was focused on noise reduction, and it is expected that the fully coated boat will restore the level of acoustic advantage which the US Navy enjoyed for the last three decades. The Seawolf's propulsion system makes it ten times more quiet over its full range of operating speeds than the Improved-688 class and 70 times more quiet than the initial generation of Los Angeles 688-class submarines. The Seawolf's quieter propulsion system will also enable it to have twice the tactical speed as the I-688. Tactical speed is the speed at which a submarine is still quiet enough to remain undetected while tracking enemy submarines effectively. Overall, the Seawolf's propulsion system represents a 75-percent improvement over the I-688's -- the Seawolf can operate 75 percent faster before being detected. It is said that SEAWOLF is quieter at its tactical speed of 25 knots than a LOS ANGELES-class submarine at pierside.

US & Canada announce NORAD, August 1, 1957

Suzanne Deffree -August 01, 2013

The United States and Canada announced the creation of NORAD (North American Air Defense) Command, a unified military unit tasked with early warning and defense coordination, on August 1, 1957.

Born out of Cold War strategy, NORAD brought the US and Canada into closer cooperation for air defense through a system of radar and sensors to guard against possible long-range Soviet strategic bombers armed with nuclear weapons.

The US Army Corps of Engineers supervised the excavation of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado and the construction of the tech command and control headquarters (see photo of NORAD blast doors from inside the mountain below), which became operational in 1966.

Operations began on September 12, 1957, with a formal NORAD agreement between the two governments signed on May 12, 1958, and an official groundbreaking ceremony on June 16, 1961.

Anyway, um, as soon as you were gone, they realized they were free. I mean, Abydos was their world for the taking.

Have a little party did ya?

DANIEL
Oh yeah, big, big party. They treated me like their savior, it was um…embarrassing.

Details about my recent sleep are very fuzzy today. Can't remember for sure when I woke up. 3 am maybe. Or maybe shortly after midnight, can't really remember as I usually can. Remember dreaming something about driving my Jeep. Then I returned to it where it was parked in a parking lot after I was traveling through some passageways, hallways in a transit facility maybe. The only part I remember clearly is where a woman, I assume was my imaginary girlfriend asked me out for drinks or something. I told her we needed to keep it really casual though because all I had to wear was sweatpants. Kind of the downside to dating a homeless person I reflect now as I write this. She told me she would wear something with holes in it. I hope that was her in my dream, although the woman in the dream seemed to be someone unfamilar though. But I have noticed that happening with other people I know. They are represented, somehow, by a different person, but I think of them as someone specific. I feel like that is part of the manipulation. I have noticed something similar in real dreams, but I don't think it is the same here. I think they are disquising themselves in my dream for some reason. Anyway, if it really was her, she actually doesn't have to worry about dressing down if we were to go out. Of course, if I have my way, it would be a moot point because why would I want to go out with her when I am in such an ugly situation? At the minimum, I would want to be back to work so that I have regained some independence. And hey, next time you are in my dreams, dear imaginary girlfriend, how about wearing a bikini? Red would be good, or yellow maybe. That would be sweet!

US Navy Commander Dan Thurman - USS Nimitz CVN 68 executive officer: There are a few people who'd like to watch us work under pressure.

US Navy Captain Matthew Yelland - USS Nimitz CVN 68 commanding officer: What are you saying, Dan?

US Navy Commander Dan Thurman - USS Nimitz CVN 68 executive officer: The Department of Defense sent him out here. Maybe they wanted to give him something to watch.

US Navy Captain Matthew Yelland - USS Nimitz CVN 68 commanding officer: Now, that makes more sense than anything else so far.

This could have been a contributing factor if I did fly the former POW's back in 1981 and if I was wearing a Santa suit when I was piloting the aircraft. "Santa" is an anagram of "Satan." It reminds me of an element from "The Last Boy Scout" when his daughter says something about "Satan Claus" and "you heard about him too?"
