I can't believe I found a Facebook page for somebody I knew on the Wainwright. I looked up Jeff Leaverton because he took great photographs during that time we were on the ship. I have previously found photographs he posted showing the USS Samuel B. Roberts FFG 58 as we traveled together from the United States to the Persian Gulf in 1988 for convoy duty. I have still been hoping to find some kind of proof to establish the timeframe we were in the Caribbean in the year 1989. I am trying to remember when that time was the ship went out to sea and I had to stay inport for a medical appointment on base. I still have not found any details to support my theory that was July 1989.
I also noted that Jeff mentions Rich and Loretta's wedding ceremony. I guess that was the same one I remember. When was that? The year 1996? 1997 maybe. I remember Tom Huston and his wife there. I don't remember Jeff being there. But I was drunk a lot. I remember that pond we were at for the gathering. Someone started pouring lemon flavored shots of liquor that was very good. I remember driving down there to Rock Hill more than one time for the gathering and I have other memories of drinking a lot of beer at Rich's house. I remember driving back to Charlotte North Carolina to my nearby apartment at Whitehall Estates. Rock Hill SC is almost sort of a suburb of Charlotte NC.
According to Jeff's Facebook page he graduated the Fire Control Technician school, which became known again as Fire Controlman around that time in the year 1985, on 25 October 1985. Correct me if I am mistaken but I don't think Jeff was assigned to the CG-28 when I reported onboard. Unless I am mistaken he arrived after I did. And I guess that means he arrived sometime in the second half of 1987. I don't recall for certain. I just have vague thoughts about how people talk about new arrivals to the ship. Something about him studying to be a priest before he joined the US Navy. So that makes me wonder why he reported to the ship two years after graduating FC school, or FT as it was known for a long time. Was he previously on a ship that was decommissioned? Possible. I don't recall anything about that. Most of the FC's I knew who followed the normal track of education would graduate FC school and then be confined to the same ship for about 4 years. I reported to the Wainwright as my second ship after graduating the three FC schools, basic and primary and specialist, but I didn't follow the normal track as most FC's.
I remember in my last year on the Wainwright I traveled around a lot on liberty in the Med in 1989 with Doug Moulton from my workcenter and he was taking a lot of photo's and I remember asking him for copies but I don't recall ever getting those copies.

President Signs Terrorism Insurance Act

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Thank you. Good morning and welcome to the White House. Today we're taking action to strengthen America's economy, to build confidence with America's investors, and to create jobs for America's workers. The Terrorism Risk Insurance Act will provide coverage for catastrophic losses from potential terrorist attacks. Should terrorists strike America again, we have a system in place to address financial losses and get our economy back on its feet as quickly as possible.
With this new law, builders and investors can begin construction in real estate projects that have been stalled for too long, and get our hard-hats back to work. (Applause.)
