Delila's Story: From Hellish War To Heavenly Life Of Kansas Home

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Nestled on a couch in woolen socks and fleecy pullover, Delila Lacevic - plucked from hell three weeks ago - is warm and safe in her new home.

It's 11 p.m. in America's heartland, daybreak in her native Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In Sarajevo at this hour, the young Muslim woman would be making the dangerous, daily dash from her mortar-pocked house on Logavina Street to the downtown waterline, where Serbian artillery cut her parents to lifeless ribbons two years ago. She carries shrapnel in her back from that same attack and, in her mind, images of unspeakable gore.
