"Genius at Work"

[09 November 2012]By the way, the new episode on 23 October 2012 of the "NCIS" television series on CBS is what made me look for information about Lesa Jewell. I forgot there was another new episode after that. Last Tuesday there was no new episode. I was watching the episode of "NCIS: Los Angeles" on 23 October 2012 and then suddenly I started thinking about trying to find her on the internet. We used to be in fairly regular contact but I lost her email address years ago.

So that's when I found the obituary about her on Texarkana Gazette's website.


I wrote back the next day that the weird part is that a few minutes after I sent the initial email to


that “NCIS: Los Angeles” television series episode broadcast nationwide revealed the villain was a woman named “Lisa Tran.” She was embezzling from the campaign of a US Senator candidate for an amount I inferred to be half of forty four million dollars and then the episode closes with “Agent Kensi” telling “Lisa” to put down the gun because otherwise it all would end badly for her and then “Kensi” shoots “Lisa” a couple times and seems to kill her.

During the 8 PM hour 23 October 2012 the television series episode for the original “NCIS” series was about helicopter crash survivors washing ashore in their raft and there was a whole lot of contrived dialog about how they were suffering adverse effects from dehydration after being lost at sea for 4 days, along with presumably drinking their own urine from a canteen that was found in the raft, and one of the agents suggested that the survivor still hospitalized could not communicate because he had brain damage caused from being lost at sea in a raft for 4 days. One of the villains in the episode reminded me a lot of a guy named Ken Bennett that I knew for a long time at Microsoft. He was the one who suggested I go to work there in 1998. I remember he told me he had become qualified to fly propeller aircraft. If I recall correctly he and another friend I used to hang around with in the late 1990s owned together a propeller-driven aircraft. The “NCIS” episode was about a US Navy helicopter crew faking a crash landing at sea and then selling the intact helicopter for three hundred thousand dollars divided among the four conspirators. The pilot wouldn’t go along with it and the scrap dealer shot him dead. Then the scrap dealer dumped the four Navy conspirators into a life raft and left them adrift on the ocean.

So that's sound like effective mob propaganda for influencing certain people to not cooperate with law enforcement authority.

Today we come to ordain and establish this Constitution Center, so I begin by thanking Senator Specter, Senator Santorum; Representatives Brady, Borski, and Hoeffel, who are here; Mayor Street and Mayor Rendell; Chairman Bogle; President Torsella; Judge Giles, Judge Becker; Park Service Director Marie Rust and all of your employees; President Rodin; and Lee Annenberg, we thank you and Walter so much for your continuing generosity and vision. And most of all, I'd like to thank the people of Philadelphia, who have contributed so much to make this center a reality.

This is an appropriate thing to do, I think, in the millennial year and in the political season. I thank Senator Specter for the plug for First Lady, and I hope he will not be too severely rebuked at the Republican caucus in a few days. [Laughter]

But if it is the season of political olympics in America, we shouldn't forget that we have over 600 of our athletes halfway across the world in Australia. And I think we ought to give a big hand to the female 400-meter free style relay team, who set a world record in winning a gold medal yesterday. [Applause] I might say, just as an aside, I saw a television special which said that this is the oldest women's swimming team we have ever fielded, and the first time the women's team has ever been older than the men. But I don't think they meant that in the same way I do. I think their average is about 21 years and 6 months. [Laughter]

I bring you greetings, also, from the First Lady, who wanted to be here today, because of her efforts to save the charters of our freedom.

As you may have read, and I hope you have, this weekend at the National Archives in Washington, scientists and engineers unveiled new, state-of-the-art technology to display and better preserve the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence. We have been struggling now for many, many years to show it to the largest possible number of visitors without having the precious old paper erode and the ink bleed away into the mists of memory.

THE exploding chocolate bar plot revealed this week was one of at least 20 failed attempts to assassinate our wartime leader.

To a casual observer it would have seemed nothing more sinister than a gaudily wrapped bar of chocolate.


Our wartime premier was also under threat from the Luftwaffe every time he flew. Despite many warnings he continued to fly long distances and always ran the risk of being shot down.

In late May, 1943, he was preparing to return to England from a trip to North Africa and Gibraltar.

The Germans were planning to destroy his plane if they could find it and, partly due to a disinformation campaign by the British Secret Service, they believed he might fly the commercial route from Lisbon.

ON JUNE 1, 1943, BOAC’s flight 777 took off from Lisbon at 9.35am and headed towards the Bay of Biscay.

Nazi spies had been watching before it took off and were convinced Churchill was on board.

Among the passengers was a man called Alfred Tregar Chenhalls who resembled and dressed like Churchill.

Like the PM, he smoked large cigars. It was clear the Nazis believed Chenhalls was Churchill.

In fact he was the business manager of film star Leslie Howard, who was also on board. Three hours after take-off the aircraft was attacked by an entire squadron of eight Junkers Ju-88’s – two-engined fighters bristling with firepower.

Punctured by shells and bullets the airliner plummeted into the sea. The attacking aircraft circled the wreckage and their crew took pictures that were sent to Berlin.
