I've been thinking for a while that the dreams I have are literal. They are the foreign dreams I used to write, the dreams produced by the manipulators of my thoughts. Don't know what to say about that last one. Jumbled, disturbing, painful. Somebody put in a lot of effort to make me forget those memories, if it is real. There was a scene there straight out the opening of "Saving Private Ryan" except that it seemed to be in the Middle East. And it was something like a pyramid I was running into, and I was by myself and every gun, there were countless guns, was turning towards me. It was sort of like a pyramid I was rushing onto, except that it was elogated, like a castle wall. In another scene, a two-star general or admiral was captured by the enemy. Back in the stretched-pyramid, I was fighting off an attack. Grenades were flying in on me, but I don't recall them going off. Then, I and some of my fellow soldiers seemed to be cleaning the place. A lot of other stuff that is fading from my mind. I feel sad, very sad.

THE COMMANDER of the Tuskegee Airmen, who never lost a bomber, is being honored by President Clinton in a White House ceremony.
WASHINGTON - There are three stars on the heavily decorated Air Force uniform of Lt. Gen. Benjamin Davis Jr., commander of the famed Tuskegee Airmen who never lost a single bomber to enemy fire during 200 escort missions they performed during World War II.
Today, Davis was getting a fourth star 28 years after he retired and 100 years after his father - America's first black brigadier general - joined the Army.
President Clinton was bestowing the honor on Davis in a White House ceremony that many say finally corrects a glaring disservice to the leader whose lifetime of service embodies much of the modern history of blacks in the military.
Davis, 85, is the third military officer to become a four-star general in retirement. President Reagan elevated two retirees to general in 1985. Davis is the first black officer to be so honored.
It was the Tuskegee Airmen themselves who sought the upgrade for Davis.
About a year ago, they went to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., with Davis' life story: his graduation from West Point in 1936, despite four years of silence from fellow cadets because he was black; the Army Air Corps' rejection of his pilot application, again because he was black.
They told of Davis' contributions through Tuskegee, his many commands around the world, his numerous medals.
Under McCain's prodding, Davis' new star was approved as part of a defense bill in September.

To endure their long ordeal, John McCain and the other U.S. servicemen held as prisoners of war in North Vietnam in the 1960s developed a number of survival techniques.
The national jubilation and intense media coverage that greeted the returning men only heightened McCain's indecision about his future. He discovered he had new status, new friends and, potentially, new career opportunities outside the military. A president, a magnate and a powerful governor all wanted to fete him and the other POWs. President Richard M. Nixon issued orders to arrange for a gala White House dinner. Ross Perot, a Naval Academy graduate and billionaire entrepreneur, followed up on the financial assistance he had given to Carol McCain and some other POW wives during their husbands' captivity by throwing a huge party for the freed men.
California Gov. Ronald Reagan, who had developed a keen interest in the POWs, chose McCain to be the principal speaker at a prayer breakfast that he was having in Sacramento for about 1,000 businessmen and civic leaders. Reagan introduced him as a war hero and personal inspiration, and McCain spent most of his short speech recounting how he'd been held for a while in a stiflingly hot box placed outside under a broiling sun.
"He talked about the desperation of the situation, and about the box being the size of nothing more than a couple of coffins," remembers Nancy Clark Reynolds, a former Reagan aide. John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona. He was the Republican presidential nominee in the 2008 United States election.
McCain followed his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, into the United States Navy, graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1958. He became a naval aviator, flying ground-attack aircraft from aircraft carriers. During the Vietnam War, he was almost killed in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire. In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, seriously injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese. He was a prisoner of war until 1973. McCain experienced episodes of torture, and refused an out-of-sequence early repatriation offer. His war wounds left him with lifelong physical limitations.
Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, beating and interrogating him to get information; he was given medical care only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral. His status as a prisoner of war (POW) made the front pages of major newspapers.

It's been more than 30 years since Retired Lieutenant Commander David Wheat of Duluth was held captive in Vietnam as a prisoner of war.
Not a day has gone by without some memory of the years he spent in captivity.
Wheat found comfort in his fellow P–O–W's...
Among those prisoners was Senator John McCain.
LeAnn Wallace sat down with Lt. Commander Wheat today...as he told his story of suffering, companionship and commeraderie.
David Wheat spent 7 and a half years in various prison cells like this one...after his plane was shot down in the fall of 1965.
Pictures bring back vivid memories of living in the worst possible conditions.
"Guys being tortured so bad that they're just sobbing, and sobbing and you can hear them in the washboard area... like a little kid, and here are these grown men... adults."
Wheat recalls other memories... the months he spent in a cell next to John McCain.
"He was in this room right here, this big cell block here, and I was in this one that was perpendicular right here, thus we communicated right between these corners here."
McCain spent five–and–a–half years as a P–O–W.
"He went through heck in his life..."
Like Wheat, McCain's plane was also shot down...
"He had two broken arms and a broken leg and he survived tremendously, he'll pull through that thing and it's so devastating when you're in a situation like that, much less injured to the extreme that he was."
Wheat communicated with McCain and other prisoners through a code...
"1 we'd just go... 1...2...3...4...5... and then 6 would be a straight line... and zero would be a fist... so we had all the numbers covered and all the letters covered."
Wheat went to Vietnam a bright young Navy pilot... and returned a 33 year old veteran with haunting memories of captivity. Its an experience he says builds character and makes strong leaders.

As soon as Hollywood press agent Bill Dunnigan returns the body of his dear friend, actress Olga Treskovna, to her home in Coaltown
Thus defeated, Bill wanders into St. Michael's church, which is packed with worshippers anxious to see the now-famous Olga. Suddenly, two large religious statues begin to turn on the altar until they are facing Olga's casket. Bill rushes to see Father Paul, who has already deduced that the statues moved because the weight of the crowd caused the pillars on which the statues were mounted to shift slightly. Although Father Paul is reluctant to describe the movement as a miracle, Bill convinces him to tell the people of Coaltown that divine intervention played some part in the event. The statues' turning is picked up by the press, and after listening to a radio report about its effect on Coaltown, Harris flies to the town and announces that he is releasing Joan of Arc . He also offers to build a hospital in Olga's name, which would be dedicated to finding a cure for the lung disease that killed the star. LUFKIN - Finding the piece of debris that might give clues to why the space shuttle Columbia broke apart on re-entry has been described by one NASA official as like "looking for a needle in a haystack."
Monday, the haystack got bigger.
While lawmen and volunteers in several East Texas counties were beating the piney woods and lake shores for more remnants of Columbia, the size of the "debris field" was enlarged to take in a portion of West Texas and a longer stretch of Louisiana.
Authorities did report a major find Monday. A man found the shuttle's nose cone buried about six feet in the ground on his land just outside the town of Hemphill. The cone was said to be in good shape and searchers planned to excavate it today.
Most of the significant debris and body parts apparently have been found between Nacogdoches and the Sabine River, but some fragments may be found as far east as the New Orleans suburbs and west of the point over Dallas-Fort Worth where the shuttle began to disintegrate.

Watching again now on DVD the 2008 film "The Day The Earth Stood Still" the scene of the sphere in the desert with the scorpion crawling towards the sphere reminds me of a recent dream where I saw one or more than one scorpion crawling along the embankment of a dirt road I was traveling on. I think that was the dream I had just before I awoke the last time in the past day and the scene with the scorpion(s) would have been towards the end of the dream. I am not certain why the detail would be important but I think of the dream again now as I watch this DVD. I puzzled over that dream because I could not understand why the road ended, which seemed to be the actual point when I awoke. If I had written down what I remembered of the dream when I woke up then I probably would have noted why I was on that dirt road, or least more details about why I was there can I can now recall. I seemed to be alone but there also seemed to be some dialog between me and someone else that is never visible or identified and there relevant details I remember now is that the nearest gas station was six miles down a dirt road that I was pushing what seemed to be a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle towards. I heard the detail about six miles and then I was pushing that four-wheeler and I was lamenting something to myself when I saw that the road curved upwards and I could see the crest of two hills nearby that I was going to have to push the four-wheeler up and over. That work did not seem that difficult though and then the puzzling part is that the dirt road, which had been wide and well-graded, was now just a narrow rut that got narrower and to the point that I would never get that four-wheeler through there and there was something about how this all was on the side of a steep hill or mountain. That was about the point I saw the scorpion(s). The dreamed seemed to end when I was contemplating climing over the ridge of the embankment to my left and I am not really certain what I saw at the point but I think I did crawl over it. After I had been awake for a while I wonder if I was at that point on the other side of an embankment that was to the right of that original dirt road I had been on.

I had the strongest sense when I started watching the DVD that I was due to have some new and profound information imparted to me as I watch it but I do not know what that could. One thought that occured to me is that I will soon know the precise day when I override the fleet ballistic missile submarine from destroying Seattle, and while I could soon remember that day, I am thinking that is not the new and profound information I will get from this particular review of this DVD.

Yesterday sometime around 1 PM, sometime not long after I made that blog post as a general post about the caves on the Moon and about caves on Mars, I heard someone talking loudly somewhere outside my apartment. I was in the living room when I first heard her talking and I was confused about where the voice was coming from, such as from through the walls, and I had not heard in here anyone outside the apartment talking so clearly, or "C.F.B." as it were. I went into the bedroom and I decided she was standing outside my bedroom window and I looked out through the blinds and I saw a woman out there talking and I heard a muffled response that seemed to be from the patio of the apartment above mine but I really don't know who she was talking to. The details I could not help but overhearing was that she seemed to be pretending to talk to a cat, I imagined that was also on that patio above mine, and I heard something about "fraidy cat" and that made me think of "Top Cat" and "T.C." and then FC. Thinking back today with that FC observation in mind, or "fire control" specifically as it derives, I remember that I think the first comments I was able to make out as I was trying to figure out where the voice was coming from, was that she was saying to someone else something about how she had already filled one cooler with ashes, and I cannot now remember what else she said but I am left with the impression she was now filling another cooler, as in an ice chest cooler, with more ash. I looked out through the blinds of the window a second time for a long examination, and I think she was holding one of those coolers she was referring to, and then after I closed the blinds I had barely pulled apart and then walked away, I think she said, "Meow, I see you there." Those might not have been here specfic words but that is close. I also think she said something about the "fraidy cat" again. I assumed that incident was instigated somehow because that person upstairs or whoever she was talking to, is under criminal investigation and there is some kind of treachery going on around me.

There was again the faint sense for a few moments as I was just walking outside that I feel my feet lift off the ground and I could almost feel the sensation of my body soaring into the sky. My pace quicked slightly and I wanted to jump into the sky and I was feeling lighter. But then the understanding returned to my mind that I cannot fly and I began to feel heavy again. On the walk back to my apartment I found myself thinking about the contrast between when I had the faint sense of being light on my feet to the point I could lift off the ground and soar into the sky and the moment when doubt returned and I noted that I again was too heavy to lift off the ground and into the sky.

Ten years after Andrea Yates was first convicted of murdering her five children, the Clear Lake mother might soon be allowed outside the confines of a state psychiatric hospital to go to church, her attorney told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday.
Defense attorney George Parnham said he expects Yates' doctors at Kerrville State Hospital to file a letter in the next week, asking the state district court in Houston to let Yates, now 47, leave for two hours weekly to attend services.
"We're now going to be asking for a pass for two hours," said Parnham, who hopes that eventually she'll be allowed to leave the state's care for good. State hospital physicians consider a patient's possible risk to the community before recommending a "therapeutic" pass, the first step toward a life beyond the hospital.
Yates' attorney believes she has been ready for years to rejoin society, including getting a job and living on her own.
"I think she's ready for outpatient care," he said.
Parnham said Yates has written an unidentified area church to ask whether she could join their congregation. The defense attorney declined to provide additional details.
Yates has been confined to the state psychiatric hospital since her second 2006 trial resulted in an acquittal after jurors found her innocent by reason of insanity. She was initially convicted of capital murder for the deaths of Noah, 7, John, 5, Paul, 3, Luke 2, and Mary, 6 months, in 2002 and sentenced to life in prison, before an appeals court granted her a new trial.
The doctor's letter will be sent to Judge Belinda Hill, who oversaw both trials.
The former nurse and stay-at-home mom had a history of psychiatric hospitalizations and suicide attempts before June 20, 2001, when she drowned her children, one by one, in the family bathtub. Investigators would later testify that Yates had to chase the last child, her eldest, Noah, through the family home and drag him into the bathroom.
Prosecutors, who never disputed that Yates was mentally ill, argued that despite the illness, she knew right from wrong, pointing to the minutes after the children's deaths when she called 911, and that she waited until her husband left for work because she knew he would try to stop the drownings.
An appeals court threw out her 2002 conviction based on a forensic psychiatrist's erroneous testimony. In both cases, Parnham and attorney Wendell Odom urged jurors to find that Yates' mental illness led to the children's deaths.
Experts witnesses testified that Yates, who is very religious, drowned her children in an act of love to save their souls from eternal damnation.

An Overview of Filicide

Filicide, or the murder of one's own child, is an unfathomable crime. With Andrea Yates's return to trial in the summer of 2006, filicide once again came to the forefront of psychiatric issues in the media. One positive outcome that may be derived from this tragedy is practitioners' heightened awareness that parents may, for a variety of reasons, be compelled to kill their children. This article aims to educate mental health providers about the concept of filicide by presenting a broad overview of the topic, including a discussion of its history, definitions, classifications, outcomes, and the research surrounding it. This knowledge will hopefully bring about clinicians' increased exploration of patients' thoughts of harming their children, which may ultimately lead to the prevention of these senseless crimes.
On June 20, 2001, Andrea Yates drowned her five children, who ranged in age from six months to seven years, in a bathtub in her home. Prior to this, she had manifested symptoms of depression with psychosis, which were exacerbated in her postpartum periods. She had been hospitalized four times and was catatonic and mute during one admission. In statements made following the crime, she indicated that she believed that she was a bad mother and that she had concerns that her children would not grow up properly secondary to her shortcomings. She noted that she killed them to save them from eternal damnation.
In early 2002, she went to trial in Harris County, Texas, and entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI). The jury hearing her case was death qualified, meaning that all jurors supported the philosophy of the death penalty and would be willing to use it in sentencing. Though she ultimately was not sentenced to death, she was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, making her eligible for parole in 40 years. In 2005, due to an error made by the prosecution's expert witness, the conviction was reversed, and the case was remanded back to the trial court. In June, 2006, Andrea Yates returned to trial and again entered a plea of NGRI. On July 26, 2006, the jury handed down a verdict of NGRI.
