I started looking at the map trying to figure out why my “father,” Joseph Wayne Burgess, is listed on my birth certificate as being born himself in Albany, Oregon. Then I started to wonder if it meant something about Albany, NY. But then I decided that probably isn’t it because Patrick Stewart is from England. Then I read this:

DAMN!!! The name of the character Phoebe portrays is "Amanda" in this movie. That was the name of my girlfriend in 1988. Amanda Busch, from Aberdeen, Scotland. Still haven't quite figured out what Aberdeen means. Phoebe portrays the wife of the star of the movie.

This reminds me of the Christmas party in 1987 for the crew of the USS Wainwright CG 28 in Charleston, S.C. Thedia and her mother Betty drove out from Arkansas to visit me and I brought them to the Christmas party, which had a band and dancing. Thedia and Betty were also introducted to girlfriend Amanda Busch, native of Aberdeen, Scotland.

The Commanding Officer of USS Wainwright CG 28 was mingling with the crew and stopped by Thedia's table and they discussed how they both lived in Arkansas, where Captain Chandler was from Blythesville, Arkansas, and Thedia lived at the time in Ashdown, Arkansas.

The USS Wainwright CG 28 deployed a few weeks later to the Persian Gulf with Captain Chandler in command. A few weeks after that, on 4/14/1988, was when the USS Samuel B. Roberts FFG-58 suffered a large explosion that was reportedly an underwater anti-ship mine.

I met Amanda Busch sometime shortly after I arrived for duty in Charleston SC to the USS Wainwright CG 28. I went to a bar in downtown with Jim Shea and some other sailors. Jim and I were renting that trailer off-base and near the base. She had very short hair. When Amanda and I met again later at that same bar Mark Mogge and Andrea Kea were there, before they married, and Andrea was suspicious of Amanda.

Amanda told me she was from Scotland and I think she said from the city of Aberdeen. When I got back from the Persian Gulf, which is a date I cannot now remember, she was there but she was late and I wasn't certain if she was going to be there. We spent that weekend together but she broke up with me shortly after that. I tried to see her for awhile and one time I finally got to talk to her at her sister's house and she was trying to tell me something about how her father had abused her, or something, that isn't very clear and I cannot remember what she said. I don't think I saw her again after that time at her sister's house.

United Airlines Flight 232 was a scheduled flight from Stapleton International Airport in Denver, Colorado, to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, with continuing service to Philadelphia International Airport. On July 19, 1989, the DC-10 (Registration N1819U) operating the route crash-landed in Sioux City, Iowa, after suffering catastrophic failure of its tail-mounted engine, which led to the loss of all flight controls. 111 people died in the accident


Of the 296 people on board, 111 died in the crash. Most were killed by injuries sustained in the multiple impacts, but 35 people in the middle fuselage section directly above the fuel tanks died from smoke inhalation in the post-crash fire. Of those, 24 had no traumatic blunt-force injuries. The majority of the 185 survivors were seated behind first class and ahead of the wings. Many passengers were able to walk out through the ruptures to the structure, and in many cases got lost in the high field of corn adjacent to the runway

Vincent W. Foster Jr., 48, was a senior partner at the Rose law firm in Little Rock, Ark., until earlier this year when he moved to Washington to join the Clinton administration. Clinton and Foster shared the same home town of Hope and attended the same elementary school.

Website swamped by 'chad' fanatics


Unlike Al Gore and George W Bush, St Chad's conduct during a disputed election helped him on his way to sainthood.

Now, the website of his parish church in England is being inundated by Americans interested in a less holy chad, the bits of paper punched out of American ballots.


Chad Walker, of Georgia, cursed his topical name and said: "Being named Chad and well aware of the current importance of bits of paper called chads I have been embarrassed by it all.

"Your website has restored some dignity to my name for me - St Chad was a great man of God and I am proud to bear his name."

The origins of the word are unclear, although Americans believe it may have been derived from the Chadless Keypunch, named after its US inventor, which punched small U-shapes in cards.

But the word first appeared during the early days of telegraphy and computing, and may have come from the Scottish word for gravel or riverbed stones.

St Chad's rector, Jill Warren, said: "We are delighted. Surfers, scraping the barrel for stories on chads, have hit our site and this is a new way of reaching people."
