And now, the old man dancers!
I remember reading that in the paper or the internet at the time of the publication in 2006 and I thought about that when writing in my journal:

Rove discloses $2,073 shotgun as a gift
By The Associated Press
WASHINGTON — The owner of the South Texas ranch where Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a hunting companion chipped in for the gift of a shotgun for presidential aide Karl Rove last year.
Specifically, a Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon II, a 20-gauge shotgun worth $2,073 that Katharine Armstrong and 10 other friends gave the senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to President Bush, according to financial-disclosure forms released Friday for top White House aides.
The only detail provided by White House spokesman Ken Lisaius was that the shotgun was a gift to Rove from friends.
Rove's disclosure revealed he is worth between $1.8 million and $6.9 million, mostly in stock and bond funds, a rental house in Ingram, Texas, and a Florida beach house. He reported receiving several other gifts, including from Nancy Reagan a $411 shadowbox with silver coins that included former President Reagan's signature.

Organized crime
Organized crime or criminal organizations are groups or operations run by criminals, most commonly for the purpose of generating a monetary profit. The Organized Crime Control Act (U.S., 1970) defines organized crime as "The unlawful activities of ... a highly organized, disciplined association...".
In order for a criminal organization to prosper, some degree of support is required from the society in which it lives. Thus, it is often necessary to corrupt some of its respected members, most commonly achieved through bribery, blackmail, and the establishment of symbiotic relationships with legitimate businesses. Judicial and police officers and legislators are especially targeted for control by organized crime via bribes.

B. Procedural Background
On September 25, 1978, a grand jury in San Juan County, New Mexico, district court indicted petitioner Chapman of first degree murder, felony murder, and armed robbery. Chapman had made a pretrial statement to police in which he stated "I did not kill Terry Sanders and ah--I was with the people involved under fear for my own life." On the basis that he received ineffective assistance of pretrial counsel, Chapman moved to suppress that statement, which the trial court denied. A jury found Chapman guilty of robbery and felony murder and he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The New Mexico Supreme Court affirmed Chapman's convictions on direct appeal. Relying on State v. Harrison, Chapman argued that the trial court's failure to instruct the jury on the dangerousness of the underlying felony violated state law. 564 P.2d at 1324. The New Mexico Supreme Court rejected this argument.

SECNAV INSTRUCTION 1650.1H
From: Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower and Reserve Affairs)
Subj: NAVY AND MARINE CORPS AWARDS MANUAL
1. Purpose. To provide guidance and regulations concerning awards available for recognizing individuals and units in the Naval Service.
2. Navy Cross
a. Authorization. 10 U.S.C. S6242.
b. Eligibility Requirements
(1) Awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Navy or Marine Corps, distinguish themselves by extraordinary heroism, not justifying the award of the Medal of Honor.
(a) While engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;
(b) While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or
(c) While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force, in which the United States is not a belligerent party.
(2) To warrant this distinctive decoration, the act or execution of duty must be performed in the presence of great danger, or at great personal risk, and must be performed in such a manner as to set individuals apart from their shipmates or fellow Marines. An accumulation of minor acts of heroism normally does not justify the award. The high standards SECNAVINST 1650.1H demanded must be borne in mind when recommending the award.

McAlester
I dreamed last night of a place we lived in McAlester Oklahoma. That must have been the early 1970's. In the context of my artificial memory, my mother remarried to a former United States Marine Corps enlisted serviceman and then he reenlisted into active service and we moved to McAlester Oklahoma where, as I recall, he was stationed at the munitions depot that is near that town. I don't recall if we went there first or if we first went to the El Toro base where he was also assigned by the United States Marine Corps. I think we went there after McAlester. Now I remember. I was in the second grade. I remember that I went to the first grade in De Queen Arkansas, and she was married to him then, and then I went to the second grade in McAlester although I cannot actually recall that part. Maybe we were only there during the summer. I do remember going to the second grade in Santa Ana California but I was only there a short time because I also went to the second grade in Antlers Oklahoma but then we must have moved back to De Queen Arkansas because I think I went to part of the second grade there but I am not certain. I am pretty certain what I might recall is that I started the third grade year in De Queen.
So anyway, I dreamed of walking, in the context of the current day, at that base housing for United States Marine Corps serviceman families and I was walking down the street that was along that row of houses. I think I found that place on the map, but as in my dream a few hours ago, the houses seem to have been demolished. I did see some houses in the dream but I wonder if I was dreaming of 4th street in De Queen. In the dream however, I did specifically note that the row of houses, which I think was similar to a long row of single floor apartments, was gone. There I seemed to start to fly. I knew I was still at McAlester because I was thinking of how that housing complex was outside the base but was close to the front gate or one of the main gates. I was looking at an overhead image map of that area and I think that is the same place. I had finished walking through those streets and then I started to fly up into a tree. I was looking at the tree and I was thinking it the dream that it had mutated or something. The tree was turning into something deformed and I didn't want to touch it as I flew up slowly towards the sky and I was rising up when under the branches of that tree where I started to look at the branches of the tree as I flew up through. I was aware that it had been contaminated or something by chemical or biological munitions that were stored at that base. I was also aware of something in the distance and I don't know what that was but it just seemed to be something better. I knew it was in the distance in front of me and I had the front gate in the distance on my right side and that location in the front of me and in the distance would be perpendicular to the gate. Looking at the map that direction would be to the south west. I don't know what that is supposed to me. I think I woke up from that dream. I write about here because it seems to be important for some reason and I stopped to write about it while I was in the middle of working on something else.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McAlester,_Oklahoma
McAlester, Oklahoma
McAlester is a city in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 17,783 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pittsburg County. It is currently the largest city in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, followed by Durant.
The town gets its name from J.J. McAlester, who later became Lt. Governor of Oklahoma and was immortalized as a character in the novel True Grit, which was then made into feature films in 1969 and 2010.
McAlester is the home of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, site of an "inside the walls" prison rodeo from which ESPN's SportsCenter once broadcast. Sometimes Oklahomans refer to the state prison simply as "Big Mac" or "McAlester," and the town is referenced in that manner in the opening pages of The Grapes of Wrath when Tom Joad is released from there.

I wonder if I remember living in McAlester, OK, because Reba McEntire is, according to the photo caption in this wiki article, from there. We lived there while James Nevells was in the U.S. Marines and assigned to a nearby military base. We lived in base housing, which I think was just off base. I had a girlfriend named Stacy Graham, whose father was also in the Marines. I got in trouble one time for pouring a bucket of blue paint down a slide in a playground. We had a bicycle race through the neighborhood which I won. I remember Stacy and I watched Evel Knievel attempt to jump over the Snake River and I knew he wasn’t going to make as soon as he blasted off. I can’t remember anything about attending school there though for some reason.

England -- Lurking In London In Pursuit Of Royalty
By Elouise Schumacher
LONDON - Quick. Is that Diana ducking into Emanuel's on Beauchamp Place to buy another polka-dot dress? No, darn it, just another Di look-alike. Foiled again.
Here I was in the heart of the heart of royal country: in Chelsea in London.
It's here that the young royals such as the Princess of Wales (otherwise known as Di) and the Duchess of York (Fergie, to almost everyone) come on the sly to shop and eat and chat up their friends. It's here that they get away from the stuffy royal palaces and let their hair down, so to speak.
Royalty watching is big business in London and wherever else in Great Britain the queen and her entourage set up camp, such as Windsor Castle. To see the draw of royalty and the accompanying pageantry, just catch the crush outside Buckingham Palace each day at 11:30 a.m. for the changing of the guard and the remote possibility of a royal glimpse.
``The family's value to Britain in terms of tourism alone is incalculable,'' says Fodor's Royalty Watching guide, a must for those serious about spying on someone close to the queen.

REBA MCENTIRE
"Is There Life Out There"
She married when she was twenty
She thought she was ready
Now she's not so sure
She thought she'd done some living
But now she's just wonderin'
What she's living for
Now she's feeling that there's something more
Is there life out there
So much she hasn't done
Is there life beyond
Her family and her home
She's done what she should
Should she do what she dares
She doesn't want to leave
She's just wonderin
Is there life out there
She's always lived for tomorrow
She's never learned how
To live for today
She's dyin' to try something foolish
Do something crazy
Or just get away
Something for herself for a change
Is there life out there
So much she hasn't done
Is there life beyond
Her family and her home
She's done what she should
Should she do what she dares
She doesn't want to leave
She's just wonderin
Is there life out there
There's a place in the sun that she's never been
Where life is fair and time is a friend
Would she do it the same as she did back then
She looks out the window and wonders again
Is there life out there
So much she hasn't done
Is there life beyond
Her family and her home
She's done what she should
Should she do what she dares
She doesn't want to leave
She's just wonderin
Is there life out there
Is there life out there
So much she hasn't done
Is there life beyond
Her family and her home
She's done what she should

Released October 1, 1991
For My Broken Heart is the eighteenth album, released in 1991 by American country music singer Reba McEntire. It was the first album recorded after an airplane crash which killed most of the members of her touring band. The album is, as McEntire states in the album's notes, "a form of healing for all our broken hearts" and the songs were chosen to that effect.

Hendricksson: What are we doing? What in God's name are we doing Chuck?
Chuck Elbarak: We don't know if it’s true about Green, I mean we just saw...
Hendricksson: We saw bullshit is what we saw. You know as well as I do they can send us anything they want. Hell, they can make a goddamn hologram out of a dog and pony show.
Chuck Elbarak: That kid doesn't know policy, he’s a grunt...
Hendricksson: Get your head outta the lilacs man.
Chuck Elbarak: What do you expect me to believe here? That we're being dumped just like that? That twenty years of death and a stand against the horror up here has turned into a fucking galactic gold rush? Why do they keep sending us provisions? What do you think, that they're waiting for us to grow old and die up here so they can... carry on running the universe?
Hendricksson: Yes.
Chuck Elbarak: Well fuck you, I don't buy it!
Hendricksson: Well wake up man! We are betrayed here brother. We are beached! We're stuck, you heard that kid! Greens been shit-canned and this whole goddamn place is a lie! I mean, they just can't cut us off up here, because too many families on earth would raise hell about it and they sure as hell ain't gonna take us back there! If we sound off about this, nobody's gonna fight their fucking war for them. So they're just gonna let us roll on and on and on up here... until we're dead and we ain't ever getting off here Chuck. I'll tell you something else, Marshall Richard Cooper and his NEB command knows it goddamn well too, and that’s why he sent us a goddamn map! And your single, solitary NEB grunt came over here and got his ass shot to stop this thing! They know its pointless now!

Back to the Future Part III (1990)
Doc: [consulting a map of the train line] This spur runs off the main line three miles down to Clayton Ravine. There's a long stretch of track that will still exist in 1985. This is where we'll push the DeLorean with the locomotive. Funny, this map calls Clayton Ravine "Shonash Ravine"... that must be an old Indian name for it. It's perfect, a nice long run that goes clear across the bridge over the ravine, you know, over near that Hilldale housing development.
Marty McFly: Right, Doc, but according to this map, there is no bridge.
[cut to Marty and Doc standing at the end of the track overlooking the ravine]
Marty McFly: Well, Doc, we can scratch that idea. I mean, we can't wait around a year and a half for this thing to get finished.
Doc: Marty, it's perfect, you're just not thinking fourth-dimensionally!
Marty McFly: [sotto voice] Right, right. I have a real problem with that.
Doc: Don't you see? The bridge *will* exist in 1985. It's safe and still in use. Therefore, as long as we get the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour before we hit the edge of the ravine, we'll instantaneously arrive at a point in time where the bridge is completed.

Bridge over troubled waters

First published in SFOR Informer #11, May 28, 1997
Mostar - The war in Bosnia and Hercegovina (BiH) caused much pain and destruction. Many people lost family, friends, and homes and some cities became divided. One of the best known of these is Mostar, the largest city in Hercegovina with 109,000 inhabitants. In 1522 Mostar became the headquarters of the Ottoman administration of Hercegovina. Many military missions against Venetian cities were launched from the city, which came under Austrian control from 1878-1918, and then became part of Yugoslavia. Today it is a part of BiH.
According to a pre-war consensus, Mostar’s population consisted of 20 % Bosnian-Serbs, 40 % Bosniacs and 40 % Bosnian-Croats. There are practically no longer any Bosnian-Serbs in the city, they are living in the mountains south and east of the city. Bosniacs, make up 55 % of the city’s inhabitants live east of the river. Bosnian-Croats make up the remaining 45 %, and live on the west side of the Neretva.
Mostar has a story to tell. It is the story of the Old Bridge, an elegant single span arch built over the river Neretva by the Ottoman Turks. Mostar is an old city, established in the 15th century when a small settlement began to form around an old Roman wooden bridge over the Neretva river, but the name Mostar comes from the old white limestone bridge Stari Most (most means bridge, and stari means old - hence Mostar) which was finished in 1566 after nine years construction for the Ottoman emperor Sultan Sleiman the Magnificent.
On November 9, 1993, during bitter civil war in the city, the bridge was shelled by a Bosnian Croat tank from Mt. Hum. One of its last roles had been to allow Muslim defenders of the "left bank" cross the river and take supplies to their supporters and the population that had remained there. It withstood many centuries, but it could not survive this concentrated effort to demolish it. After several direct hits, this magnificent piece of history crashed into the waters below.

Dynamite (1949)
Gunner Peterson is a veteran dynamite man working for Jake and is romantically interested in Jake's daughter Mary. Johnny Brown, son of Nellie Brown who operates a boarding house, finds college too tame after his stint with a demolition squad in the army, and decides to quit. Getting a job with Jake, he is soon resented by Gunner when he tries to introduce some new methods and also starts showing an interest in Mary. A truck loaded with dynamite gets away from Hard Rock Mason and the loss of the truck causes Jake to have to borrow money from Nellie to keep his business going. Hard Rock is killed in a blast which Gunner decides was his fault, since he wouldn't listen to Johnny's ideas about how to set the charge, and he leaves. Later, when Johnny is testing charges, there is an unexpected blast and he is trapped in the tunnel.

And then, suddenly out of nowhere, bam. He pops out, blows you to pieces. And then jumps away before you can return fire.

Prisoner of War Medal
The Prisoner of War Medal is a military award of the United States armed forces which was authorized by Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on 8 November 1985. The United States Code citation for the POW Medal statute is 10 U.S.C. § 1128.
The Prisoner of War Medal may be awarded to any person who was a prisoner of war after April 5, 1917, (the date of the United States entry into World War I was the 6th). It is awarded to any person who was taken prisoner or held captive while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing Armed Force; or while serving with friendly forces engaged in armed conflict against an opposing Armed Force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. As of an amendment to Title 10 of the United States Code in 1989, the medal is also awarded for captivity by foreign armed forces that are hostile to the United States, under circumstances which the Secretary concerned finds to have been comparable to those under which persons have generally been held captive by enemy armed forces during periods of armed conflict. The person's conduct, while in captivity, must have been honorable. This medal may be awarded posthumously to the surviving next of kin of the recipient.

Boomer is led to Adama's quarters and released from her bondage.
Adama: (to marines) Wait outside. (to Boomer) Sit down. I've asked you here to find out why the cylons hate us so much.
Boomer: I'm not sure I know how to answer that. I mean, hate might not be the right word.
Adama: I don't want to fence with you. I just want to know why.
Boomer: It's what you said at the ceremony before the attack when Galactica was being decommissioned. You gave a speech that sounded like it wasn't the one you prepared. You said that humanity was a flawed creation. And that people still kill one another for petty jealousy and greed. You said that humanity never asked itself why it deserved to survive. Maybe you don't.

Gleichschaltung
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gleichschaltung (meaning "coordination", "making the same", "bringing into line", is a Nazi term for the process by which the Nazi regime successively established a system of totalitarian control and tight coordination over all aspects of society. The historian Richard J. Evans translated the term as "forcible-coordination" in his most recent work on Nazi Germany.
Among the goals of this policy were to bring about adherence to a specific doctrine and way of thinking and to control as many aspects of life as possible.

Fisk: And she died knowing that her ship and her crew were safe and that her mission had been accomplished. Nothing was more important to her than her ship, her crew, and her mission. And as I take command of Pegasus I pledge to uphold those values that made her such an effective and heroic leader.
Starbuck: I, um, only knew Admiral Cain for a short time, so what I have to say about her will be short. She faced things. She looked them right in the eye and she didn't flinch. That's something that we do a lot around here. We second-guess. We worry. When I think about what she went through after the attack-- all alone, one ship, no help, no hope-- she didn't give up. She didn't worry. She didn't second-guess. She acted. She did what she thought needed to be done, and the Pegasus survived. Might be hard to admit, or hard to hear, but I think that we were safer with her... than we are without.

Adama: Yes, thank the gods. How are you feeling?

New York Times: WASHINGTON, Feb. 7 — A House Republican whose subcommittee oversees the National Security Agency broke ranks with the White House on Tuesday and called for a full Congressional inquiry into the Bush administration's domestic eavesdropping program.
Senator Murray,
Do you know who I can turn to in order to find out who has me under surveillance? Is it the government? Is it terrorists? Is it somebody in the executive branch of the government? Somebody in the judicial branch? When does it end?
I can look back and see the beginning of this situation in 1997 when an employer unjustly broke my employment contract and I filed a lawsuit to recover the promised wages from my contract as well as verbal promises of expense compensation. I now suspect that by filing the lawsuit, I became a potential target, simply because I was unknowingly creating some kind of identity for myself in the legal system.
The next important point is from 1998 when I left South Carolina to begin work at Microsoft here in Washington State. On the very day I started at Microsoft, December 7, 1998, the state of South Carolina announced they were dropping out of the antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
1X09 - TIGH ME UP, TIGH ME DOWN
Original Airdate: March 4, 2005 (USA)
Apollo - Wait, I see him, I see him! It's the same raider.
Tigh - What?
Apollo - Yeah, it's the same raider. I can see the damage from before. It's behaving erratically. He jumped away again!
Gaeta - Contact. Single raider same telltales. It's like he's flying around in circles.
Tigh - Wounded bird can't fly home.
Apollo - Galactica/Apollo. We've got him on dradis but he's pretty far out there. It'll take us about three minutes to close into weapons range.
Tigh - No! This is our perfect chance to get some intell. Order Apollo to close with the raider, but do not engage. Put a raptor in the air. As long as that thing's flopping around out there, tell them I want to suck in every electronic signal it makes.

I am wondering today if I was either genetically engineered prior to birth or genetically modified after birth to allow for greater tolerance of long term travel in space.
I was thinking today about something I read recently in the novel 2001: Space Odyssey. Clarke wrote something about the progress of man from femur-wielding ape-man to man's use of guided missiles.
I wonder where the divergence point is in history? When did I become Kerry Burgess and who am I really?

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
1X07 - SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION
Original Airdate: February 18, 2005 (USA)
Tyrol - ( Mumbling ) unbelievable... frak it !
Boomer - Ahem... uh, not a good time ?
Tyrol - No, it's fine.
Boomer - Guess you're having problems ?
Tyrol - I just, I can't get this thing to work. I've been over it and over it and over it and over and... nothing ! I have no idea how Starbuck got this thing to move, much less fly.
Boomer - It's not really a thing, you know ? It's probably a Cylon itself. More of an animal, maybe, than the human models. Maybe they genetically design it to perform a task. To be a fighter.

WASHINGTON - Top Bush administration officials in 2002 debated testing the Constitution by sending American troops into the suburbs of Buffalo to arrest a group of men suspected of plotting with Al Qaeda, according to former administration officials.
Some of the advisers to President George W. Bush, including Vice President Dick Cheney, argued that a president had the power to use the military on domestic soil to sweep up the terrorism suspects, who came to be known as the Lackawanna Six, and declare them enemy combatants.
Mr. Bush ultimately decided against the proposal to use military force.
A decision to dispatch troops into the streets to make arrests would be nearly unprecedented in American history, as both the Constitution and subsequent laws restrict the military from being used to conduct domestic raids and seize property.
The Fourth Amendment bans “unreasonable” searches and seizures without probable cause. And the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 generally prohibits the military from acting in a law enforcement capacity.
In the discussions, Mr. Cheney and others cited an Oct. 23, 2001, memorandum from the Justice Department that, using a broad interpretation of presidential authority, argued that the domestic use of the military against Al Qaeda would be legal because it served a national security, rather than a law enforcement, purpose.
“The president has ample constitutional and statutory authority to deploy the military against international or foreign terrorists operating within the United States,” the memorandum said.
Memo declassified
The memorandum — written by the lawyers John C. Yoo and Robert J. Delahunty — was directed to Alberto R. Gonzales, then the White House counsel, who had asked the department about a president’s authority to use the military to combat terrorist activities in the United States.
